I was surprised to have been so disappointed with this venue. I had only ever heard good things about this place both from locals themselves, as well as people that had visited for the day from a cruise ship. I sat upstairs at the bar and initially, I had good feeling about the place. It had a cozy winter feel to it. This all changed very quickly however. I had ordered a flight of beers (beer paddle) and the guy that served me had poured the four beers, and left them in a very disorganized way close towards his end of the bar. He then said 'I gave you a different beer to what you ordered because we don't have what you ordered' and then walked off. So two things here.
Shortly after a female came to replace him behind the bar and I asked her which beers she would recommend of the menu. She asked me to repeat the question three times, because after each time I had asked, she would start a conversation with a work colleague of hers (who was standing behind me) and then turn to me with a blank face and say.... 'I forgot what you asked, can you repeat' When she had finally attempted to answer my question, her response was...'well what are you drinking?' When I told her, she said 'your on the right path'. She then walked away.
There seemed to be a number of staff at the bar, some off duty, some on break and the ones currently working. This would not be an issue, but what was an issue is that the level of service was non-existent.
Even when asking for the bill, I think she had forgotten about me. It wasn't until I was over waiting and had stood up and started putting on my jacket that she then had walked to the till to print my cheque.
It really was a disappointment because I'm sure that more times than not, this would be a great place to go to. I say this because I have spoken to so many people that have had nothing but good things to say about the place.
Perhaps I just got the raw end of the deal when it came to the particular...
Read moreWe're glad we came across Skagway Brewing Company in our handful of hours in town. There are only so many options there and to find a place that serves great food and that has vegetarian options was awesome.
I wanted a light-ish lunch and was excited to see Beer Cheese soup on the menu...these are often made with a chicken stock and I was delighted to find out this indulgent and flavorful soup is vegetarian! Thanks Skagway Brewing Company. I got it with the focaccia add on and it was a perfect meal for me.
Other vegetarian options include 2 different kinds of veggie burger (a house-made vegan patty and an Impossible patty), pizzas and salad.
My wife (who eats fish) got the sesame salmon. She ate a lot of fish on this trip and keeps going back to this one as being perfect...prepared exactly right and perfectly red on the inside.
My wife complimented the server on how fresh the greens were in the salad and she told us how they grow them all in their "aeroponics" lab/garden upstairs...this led to a tour with the owners of the lab where we got a lovely explanation of how it worked and a view of all the impressive produce growing!
They've also as the name would imply, have lots of house brewed beers to try. I had the Spruce Tip Blonde brewed with actually spruce tips! You can get a beer flight and I was happy I could order a single of the the small flight sized glasses for this as I'm not so much a day drinker but really wanted to try it.
Skagway Brewing Company was a great find in Skagway with something to eat for everyone, all produced with a great deal of...
Read moreOur party of four adults relished a selection of tea, water, and adult beverages, all meeting our expectations. We ordered a delightful mix of loaded fries, chili, onion rings, chicken fingers with fries, and fish and chips.
The food was delivered fresh and promptly. It came with the requested sauces and dips for our enjoyment. We even received a few extras that we asked for.
The atmosphere of the restaurant added to our enjoyment, with its warm lighting and inviting decor. As we savored our meal, the friendly staff checked in occasionally, ensuring everything was to our liking without being intrusive.
The loaded fries were a hit! The chili was hearty and flavorful, with just the right amount of spice to give it a kick. The onion rings were golden and crunchy, complementing the creamy dipping sauce that accompanied them.
Chicken fingers were tender and juicy, served with perfectly cooked fries. The fish and chips were another standout, with the fish being flaky and the batter light and crisp. A dash of tartar sauce elevated the dish to perfection.
Overall, our dining experience was delightful, leaving us satisfied and content. We departed happy with our choices.
Please arrive 30-60 minutes early to wait for the dining room upstairs with the full menu or enjoy the bar area downstairs without wait with a limited menu. Reservations can only be made in advance after 4pm.
