Well, I've lived in this place for many years. And we've gotten to understand that we agree to disagree on people's type of drinking. Don't matter who's drinking a drunkard is a drunkard. Don't matter what color you are. And I learn that the hard way, but these people are very prejudiced and if you are the same way as they are, then you guys will get along. But it's hard to get service in the place like this when you have colored skin. But since they sell single cigarettes, it's my only place of buying a cigarette for a dollar so I deal with them even if we agree to disagree. But there are bartenders in this place who are not as discriminative as some of them. So give the place a chance. And you never know you may make a new bartender friend. Like the good word says...

Lots of locals frequent here, including Chester, a local from Sitka who brought us some of his canned smoked King Salmon. When you lookup dive bar in the dictionary it has a photo of the Pioneer Bar. They have a limited snack menu, but the mini-corndogs are a fun and tasty treat. They also have a good selection of brews on tap with wines and mixed drinks. Read moreWoman at the bar was very short with us, politely asked about her tattoos thinking they may have been native inspired and she simply referred to me and my friend as a couple of drunks which was really irritating as I was, genuinely, attempting to make polite conversation having only had about two small drinks and meant to get home and to sleep for classes the next day and would not in any way consider myself ‘drunk’ after that… very prudish and almost snarky in my opinion but I know how the nights go, hopefully she has a better day.
