This location, although not super close to the main strip of tourist shops (granted, it is still only a 10-15 minute walk from the cruise ship docks), is a must-do location for anyone who enjoys cocktails or distilled spirits. My understanding is that this is a small family operation. I first had the opportunity to visit in June of 2022 and we had a couple of cocktails each in the tasting room. We were served by the mother of the distiller as I understand it. The cocktails were high quality and one featuring local plants/botanicals including fireweed and spruce tips. There is the opportunity to purchase some merchandise or spirits (gin or vodka). I ended up purchasing a 750 mL bottle of gin to take home. I am not a huge gin drinker, but in the tasting room the gin seemed quite smooth. When back home a few friends and I tried several gins against this one (a couple of mass-produced ones as well as local ones from the Midwest) and this gin was on the better spectrum of our tasting session. I was originally skeptical about glacial runoff water as being a factor that would contribute to the flavor, but I can attest to the fact that there is something special about this gin. Compared to other gins there is a bit more of a âmineralâ flavor as I am going to call it. So, I am now a believer that glacial water may be a contributing factor here.
Fast forward and it is now June of 2023 and by chance I am back to Skagway for Alaskan cruise part 2. I ended up purchasing another 750 mL bottle of gin as well as a 750 mL bottle of vodka this time since I am a believer the water here contributes to the good flavor of...
Read moreCame here as one of the stops on my cruise as my friend and I always try to gift each other spirits made locally when we travel. It is a little off the beaten path in Skagway but to me this adds to the charm. I picked out two bottles and the lady who took my payment was very friendly. A fair word of warning- I picked up two bottles and went to pay. I paid with a card and the screen prompted me for a tip. Normally, when I make a purchase without being waited on I opt not to tip. When the transaction finalized she was kind enough to ask if I was part of the cruise and went the extra step to not only wrap the bottles but I also received a canvas bag with the distilleryâs name and logo. I know those are not free so I doubled back and left a cash tip. I hope this review further encourages others to patronize this establishment. And 750 ml of locally made spirits for 36 dollars- a very decent price. If the distillery reads this, a...
Read moreWe stopped here as a recommendation from our excursion guide and we were not disappointed! It is a little bit off of the main path, but honestly that is part of it's charm. We liked that it wasn't super crowded or touristy. The bartender was so helpful in picking out a drink. I love that the cocktails are made with local ingredients and using local flora! What better way to taste the flavors of the area. It was one of our favorite places. The bartender even recommended a lovely walking trail that we didn't know about that ended up being another highlight of our stop. Our only regret is that we didn't have more time here. I definitely recommend this place to anyone...
