Very few places get a 5 star review from me, but this is one of them. We went based on a friend telling us they had great sammies and we happened to be on that side of town, so we gave it a shot. Boy were we surprised when we found out that it was really a bread store that just happened to make great sandwiches.
Sammies first, I got the Turkey Green Chile Cheese Melt and WOW was I surprised at how great it was. The bread was a selection of their in-house breads and I chose a green chile cheese bread. The toasting was just right and the slice thickness was a little thin, but didn't get too soggy. A little thicker would be ::Chef's Kiss:: in my opinion, but that's just nitpicking rather than it being bad. The turkey was fresh as was the green chile. No canned stuff here. All in the right proportions. The part that stood out the most was their in-house garlic aioli. It was so good, that I bought a jar of the sin-sational stuff to take home with me.
My wife ordered the Cubano on their in-house fresh white bread. She said the black forest ham, turkey, and Swiss was all in the perfect proportion. She also nitpicked on the slice being so thin, but she also didn't think it really was a bad thing. Just made the last few bites a little soggy. What hit her was the pickled red onions. She said they were done perfectly and made her wish they sold jars of them.
Now for the baked goods. We purchased a loaf of honey white bread and one of the green chile cheese. The bread was baked to perfection. Just the right amount of sweet for balance. It was not a fluffy bread, it's pretty dense but that is actually a plus. The density made it great for our own sammies and that superb garlic aioli. I actually used it to double up the bread slices to make it thicker for the hot sammies. The cold sammies were just right with the thin slices.
We also got a couple of scones. I got a strawberry and blueberry that reminded me of our trip to London. It wasn't the super sweet American version, but the subtle sweet that the British (and I) love. My wife got the cherry pecan and she couldn't stop talking about it for days after it was gone. My kids even loved them and asked us to trek across the universe to get more. Hehe, we live on the far westside, so it's a trip to get there.
We also got the 4 cinnamon roll package, though I can't review those as they were eaten up before I was able to get one. Though that in and of itself should be the review. My family loved them and begged for more.
The last bit was the garlic aioli, which is potent. Don't use it like mayo, mix a little in with your mayo for the perfect blend. If you go straight without mayo, it's actually kind of spicy. So be prepared.
We have now decided that Saturdays are the day to go because of the scones and the fact they bake different stuff on different days. Just ask for a menu and you will know what days they bake your favorite yum. I recommend this place to all my friends and I recommend it for all of...
Read moreI should know better to read reviews before I visit an establishment. However, I just left the gym next door and decided to get some sweets really quick for my office. My first time here. I start browsing. Lotâs of empty shelves but I do find a cherry almond dessert loaf that looks promising. I keep browsing. Then, all of a sudden a lady yells, can I help you! I didnât have a chance to respond when all of a sudden she yells it again and another lady coworker stands by her staring at me. Took me a moment to realize, I think they thought I was going to steal their loaf. Lol. Omg. I mean, I was a little sweaty from my workout and had my workout bag, but didnât think I looked suspicious. In any case, I was going to buy more items but felt very uncomfortable. I walked to the front and one lady whispered something to the curly haired woman and she walked to the back. Guess they felt better that I was going to pay for the loaf. Anyways, I paid the $13 bucks and just wanted to get out of there. I mean, who acts like that. Seems like there have been a few recent customer service complaints at this establishment and now I know why. I warned my co-workers and definitely wonât return here. Good luck to you if you decide to...
Read moreI must have died and gone to heaven đ It smells so good in here! My first visit here today and Iâm out of my mind with joy.
This place does the real McCoy bread loafs of many varieties. When you walk I. The ask if you would like to try some of todays loafs and then cut you a huge hunk to try. What great advertising, I bought them both lol.
They have the long crunchy French peasant bread, a variety of scones, cinnamon buns to die for, brownies, cake bars as well as a nice selection of gluten free types.
They also serve sandwiches, soups to go and other misc kitchen gadgets, gifts and cards.
Most breads come out of the oven between 11-2pm and I could see them selling out fast. Canât wait to cut up a bunch of pieces and use it on a charcuterie board. Finally found my go to bakery. I live in the westside and it takes 30min drive, well...
