15/ 15 stars. FOOD, PHENOMONAL. SERVICE, PERSONABLE. ATMOSPHERE, PERFECTLY TUNED.
Let's start with the food, since that's what people read reviews for;
My husband and I both ordered the "Chicken Sandwich" with no amendments, but substituting sweet potato fries for the regular fries.
For an appetizer, we sampled the Fried Zucchini and the regular French Fries.
The Fried Zucchini is hand sliced which is a nice thought, but for those expecting a consistent level of doneness and balance of flavor, it give a lot of variation. Nonetheless, the seasoning on the breading and the balance of breading-to-vegetable is well managed. It has a little tangy spice at the end that is a pleasant surprise.
The French Fries are like most of the other items we tried in the effect that they are well seasoned. It is not often we get a slightly breaded fry outside of fast food chains like Taco Bell and KFCs latest addition. But those two do a poor job at mimicking the artful, carb-rich, smile-inducing show-stealing side.
The food did not leave us waiting for long after the appetizers were finished, which is yet another contrast this restaurant has to others like it.
The presentation was consistent, colorful, and clean. The food was still steaming when it arrived.
The Chicken Sandwich (default) comes with a well seasoned, well floured, juicy, fried chicken breast, a thick slice of Pepperjack cheese gently cloaked with umami carmelized onions on top, and a slice of tomato and a bed of shredded iceberg lettuce to cradle the beloved creation on bottom. Capturing this is a simple but perfect and fresh Brioche bun.
The sweet potato fries are refreshingly simple and, once you start into the deep flavors of the sandwich, they are a nice pallete cleanser so that your mouth isn't overwhelmed.
I apologize for not getting the waitress' name; she was a tall, thin, red haired young woman with a bubbly, genuine, and personable demeanor. The waitress did a good job at suggesting which appetizers were worth trying while maintaining the "They're all good" unbiased presentation of good wait staff. She told my son his "masterpiece" (the coloring he did on the menu) belonged framed in an art gallery.
She was the final touch, the cherry atop the shake, that made us feel welcome and made the atmosphere even...
Read moreOk... update. The review below was the last time I ate at Nexus. Came back on October 10. Sean was the Bomb!!! They were busy, but that did t stop Sean and the hostess from being friendly making sure our order was right and that the food was cookes to our specs. Kept coming back to fill my order! Also I observed the other waitstaff... much much improved customer service!
Oh and the food was amazing! We had chicken and waffles fish and chips fried zucchini, chicken chicharon was collard greens and Mac and cheese.
Thank you management! I will be back soon!! Changed my rating!
Food is always great. I want to emphasize that. However, over the past few years of coming here we have noticed a significant decline in customer service. If I ask for something, like a new Menu because the one they gave me had Ketchuo on it, I am treated with disdain.
I use to come in from Santa Fe at least once a week to eat here. I recommended this place to my friends and family every chance I could! But then the service and attitude from the wait staff became hard for me to ignore. Today , not one waitperson smiled at any of the customers. They spoke amongst themselves rather than chat or smile with customers. They delivered food without meeting eye contact to every table that I observed.
I have given this place chance after chance. And no matter the staff , the attitude is the same. Must come from management!
I will NOT be patronizing this place ever again, nor will I recommend it to my friends and family. In fact I will be doing just...
Read moreThis is a nice place to get something different in New Mexico. I recommend you try it. Their southern flair to New Mexico food is a great alternative to other local places. Generally they are good.
This time however, they only get 3 stars. Maybe they were in a rush or they had an inexperienced cook on hand, I don’t know. I ordered the chicken chicharrones…naked. The first order came out completely burned! (See the first photo.) I can’t believe my server actually brought these to me. When asked, “How is everything?” I had to ask her for another order. I couldn’t eat the charred chicken. She gladly replaced them, but it seems Nexus needs to pay more attention to the QUALITY of the food leaving their kitchen. After all, if they are not careful, it can start affecting the establishment’s reputation. The chicken and waffles were the bomb…for NM. Most everything else I’ve tried here is very good! I hope they don’t start slipping into mediocrity…
UPDATE (8/17/22): Today I received a reply to my review from the owner saying “it is a shame” I left a review on my worst experience and not on my other good experiences here. First, you never “shame” a customer for giving fair and accurate feedback. Second, this was not my only review of the establishment. I’ve left reviews of positive experiences as well. It’s not a good sign when a restaurant owner can’t accept customer criticism that is reasonable (three stars) and accurate (backed...
