My wife and I stopped on a Sunday August 19th 2018. Walked in and the place was full, waited awhile for a table to open up, no problem with that being Sunday morning. A table opened up and we went and sat down. The plates had been cleared off the table before the people before left but there was still there cups that needed to be cleared off and table wiped off. No problem with that. The waitress stops by after about 10 minutes and asked if we were ready to order and looks at the table and realized that it still needed to be cleaned. She leaves and comes back and cleans it off and takes our orders and leaves to get the drinks, coffee and a orange juice, she came back with the drinks drop them off. Coffee was ok there but had alot better, and the orange juice was not looking good at all and had a funny taste. So I set the orange juice in the center of the table on the end so she could see that it was not good. The waitress never stop by once in a good 20 minutes. Then she finally stops by to tell us the she did not put ower order in and asked if we still wanted it. Well, we have been here this long already, so yes put it in and by the way there's something wrong with the o.g. She came back to the table in roughly 8 minutes with a couple of plates of food, we both look at her and said this is not ower order and that it was someone else's order. Once again she asked what the order was and said that she would cover it, and asked if wanted a carmel roll, sure we'll have one. She leaves put the order in once again. And we sat and watch her tend to other tables, mmm were is the carmel roll? A good 10 more minutes go by and bam there's the roll brought over by a different waitress, thanks.? Didn't even get a chance to try the roll and the food was finally there! Yeaaaa we can eat now. So we start to eat after all the waiting. Both of us not saying much to each other at this point that a couple of bites and nope is tasted bad something is wrong with this. Waited a while for the waitress to come back and nope now standing at the counter. Got up and started walking up there and she said that she was really embarrassed about all the mistakes and that she we could go and she would cover the tab. So overall we got nothing good out the first and last trip to Jan's, didn't even get a chance to try the roll or ask her for a box sence she once again did not come back the table after dropping off the food. So all I can say is good luck if you go there....

I used to love Jans place for is affordable, greasy breakfast. The food is the same mid quality at a reasonable price but today's service at BNC's makes me not want to come back.
I know I'm picky about meat, so I made sure to specify my preference when ordering. Heard the bell ring from the kitchen, waited at least 5 minutes, heard the bell ring again, nothing. Food shows up warm but not hot, and my bacon is so floppy the fat is white and barely cooked. Not a problem, I'll ask for them to cook it a little longer. Except she never came.
Our server gave everyone else in the restaurant IMPECCABLE service, but didn't stop by a single time to check in with us. Actually, there where many times she was headed our way and decided to turn around instead. I usually give servers the benefit of the doubt, but she was actively avoiding our table.
BNC's, does your older server have an issue with people of color to the point that she cant even offer mediocre service? The younger employees were super nice and on point.
I am sad to say, I won't continue supporting this business after recommending this location to many over the years. I am appalled to have experienced this treatment. The only difference today was that I brought a hmong person with me. If she's a follower of Christ's teachings, maybe remind her that he was a brown...
Read moreWe live a short ways out of town and rarely go into Alexandria, MN on the weekends. Today, we needed to run an errand and decided to stop and eat breakfast somewhere. We drove all over town for nearly an hour - even stopped at a few places; but the parking lots of breakfast places were full, as were the restaurants. We were on our way out of town and decided to stop at Jan's Place to see if the breakfast crowd had thinned out. We walked in and there happened to be a booth for two that just opened up. Other than that, they were full and there was a waiting line. We quickly decided what to order and our server was very quickly by to take our order. In spite of how busy the place was - and most likely was most of the morning - she was so friendly and efficient. After a short wait, our generous breakfast was served piping hot. The food was worth the wait - cooked perfectly and so delicious. Despite the extraordinary busyness of a Sunday morning - the staff and food were totally on point! Jan's Place is showing...
