First I would like to say my wife and I love Jersey Mike's. When we lived in Florida we went all the time. The subs are a little pricey but we get the giant and share it. We had went to the new location in Altoona on 11/03/18 around 4pm after waiting a few days for the crowds to die down a little with much anticipation. There was still a wait but the subs are worth it. We ordered a club giant and the gentleman cutting the meat was wonderful and did a great job but that is where the good experience ended. The girl putting the extras on asked if we wanted it Mike's way and of course there is no other way. She put the onion lettuce and tomatoe on. Then it came to the oil and vinegar she over did it. It pours out quick and usually it is only 2 quick passes. She did 3 slow passes then she put the seasonings on. She went to put the lid on without putting the mayo or bacon on or asking if we wanted anything else. So I stopped her and mentioned it got mayo and bacon on it and we would also like to add pickles. Once she was done it was passed to another girl wrapping the subs. The customer before me was asking for change to make a donation to the charity box when the girl wrapping the lady's sub stoped and reached into the donation box and pryed some dollar bills out and handed them to the lady customer. All while wearing the food handling gloves. Then instead of changing her gloves after handling dirty money finished to continue to wrap subs. She then cut my sub into four pieces not asking if we wanted it cut while using the same dirty gloves. Then she went to wrap it and the tops fell off spilling our toppings out. She wrapped it twice trying to get it all covered and with the ends open then tried to stuff it into the bag causing more of our subs toppings to spill. The girl running the register then stepped in putting on gloves and took the sub out of the bag and unwrapped it. They both picked up the sub and put it on a new paper and wrapped it right this time. All the time the girl who was wrapping the subs is still wearing the same dirty gloves. She managed to handle our sub with theses dirty gloves 6 times touching every inch of it. I know it just opened and there are some training and corrections to be done but it is common knowledge that when handling food you wear food safe gloves and if you touch anything besides food you change the gloves so germs are not transferred to peoples good. That was gross. I would have asked to have another one made but I was already in line 30 minutes and just wanted to go home and eat the sub. I chanced getting sick over having to wait. When we got home and sat down to eat the sub which was about 20 minutes. The bottom of the bread was soaking wet from all the oil and vinegar she had put on. If it was just the over use of vinegar and oil with forgetting the bacon and mayo I would have gave 4 stars because the sub was still good even with the soaked bread but the improper handling of food is a big problem. I was generous with It being new employees or I would have given a 1 star and never return. These issues should be addressed to correct them and quickly before someone does get sick. I will give it another chance but the next time any of this happens I will say something and make them redo my sub until they get it right. If the food handling issue happens again we won't return to this location...
Read moreI got a Jersey Mikes gift card for my birthday so I decided to stop by. And when I initially stepped foot into the place I noticed a deli type set up where they slice the meat.
Although Jersey Mike’s appears to be a big box chain, this deli chest sets them apart from other well known chains. And others that most likely have meats pre packaged. And the sheer fresh and quality taste of a Jersey Mike’s sub proves this.
Now I noticed that they take painstaking steps and pride in everything from preparing the sub in front of the customer to how the sub is to be wrapped in the bag.
And the taste speaks for itself. Many a time I have horked down a hoagie just to look in the mirror and ask myself….. “Did you really enjoy that?”
I didn't have to ask myself that question with Jersey Mike’s offerings. I got a #5 Super regular size. And at first glance you may think you are getting half a sub. But I counsel anyone to take a breath and allow the process to play out. If you are accustomed to getting “Meh” subs, you may be experiencing a Pavlovian reaction.
So when I got home and bit into that sub I found that the bread, the texture, the spices, the lettuce & the meat combined perfectly to form a well oiled, (& vinegared), machine of taste satisfaction!
Thus I found that the regular size was enough. And I weigh 225lbs. But this is what Jersey Mike’s quality does. It allows you to slow down, enjoy the product and let your satisfied digestive systems naturally tell you, “It is enough.”
And that is what it comes down to…….satisfaction! Because nobody likes buying a sub, finishing it and still trying to figure out what it tasted like.
But you don't have to worry about that at Jersey Mike’s. From the process to the finished and eaten sub you definitely will be satisfied.
If Mick Jagger himself walked into Jersey Mike’s, he might just find himself quitting the Rolling Stones that day. This because he’d probably say, “I finally got...
Read moreIm not usually a complainer when it comes to customer service, restaurants, hotels, etc.., I've worked in customer service most of my life. I visited today for the second time by myself to pick lunch up for my bf and I. I was welcomed and acknowledged about 2 min after I walked in. It was not that busy at all. About maybe 4 couples in there and like 9 workers. I ordered an 8 inch Italian Mike's way, to go with the oil and vinegar on the side, and an 8 inch chesse steak. Then my bf and I will split them both when he gets home. I live about 5 minutes from the store. So she put the dressing in a little container and wrapped it. Then the couple behind me ordered subs. Among them a kids sub. Like a little 3 inch sub. Mind you theres alot of side conversations going on between the cash register girl and the girl making my Italian sub. So I dont really think shes paying attention as Im watching her make my sub. She pours the oil and vinegar all over it, starts wrapping it, and thats when I spoke up. Ohh sorry I wanted that on the side? She just got done wrapping the small container of dressing? Shes not paying attention at all. And I tipped them $5 on a $18.23 check. So I get home, unwrap the Italian, and the one side has like a 3 inch bottom on it? I'm like are serious right now? So much hype about this awesome sub shop, and the customer service was wack, and the food was not right?? 11-19-18 2:24...
