I don't want to give any stars, but I need to say something about our horrible experience this afternoon at i-Hop. We arrived at 1:58 pm and we were seated right away. The entire restaurant had maybe 5 tables. Our server (I don't know his name) ignored us completely for about 15 minutes. When he did come to our table he was rude. He seemed very pissed off. He took our drink order and then took another 5 minutes or so to bring them out. He took our food order and then he did not come back to the table again until about 2:40 when my husband flagged him down for refills. At this point, his section was empty except for us. He was bussing his tables angrily. He was literally throwing dishes in a bin. It was so loud. There was one other server, and her section had 3-4 tables, all of which came in after us. They ALL had their food. I approached her at 3:10 and explained that we had been there over an hour with no food and no explanation. I asked her to get the manager. I told the manager about our experience, and she apologized for not being on the floor, due to a meeting in her office. She did not, however, apologize for our server's rude behavior. She made an excuse about another employee not showing up on time, and he was right to be mad. (Were we supposed to know that)? She went to check on the food, and she had to go find our server in the back. 1 minute later, he brought our food out on a busser cart. By now, it was 3:15. We thanked him and started eating. Our food was luke warm or cold. He also never checked on us. My husband had to flag him down for boxes and politely requested he discount our bill since we were there 1.5 hours at this point. We never saw the manager again, and she made no effort to correct the situation. He did discount the food, but we literally had to ask. And, we still tipped him. It would have been 20% of the full bill, but at this point, he's lucky he got 20% of the discounted bill.
I've worked in full service restaurants for over 20 years. I didn't want to complain to anyone, but at some point, I couldn't let it slide. I've waited tables, I've managed, I've trained servers, and I've bartended. There were so many fails, it was ridiculous.
Not acknowledging us within 60 seconds. Even if it's just to say, I see you, and I'll be right with you."
Drinks should be on the table within 2 minutes. If you can't handle 5 tables, maybe think about a different job.
Super rude greeting..." what do you want to drink?"
Taking another 5 minutes to bring drinks and take our order. In fact, we all had our menus down when we were approached for drinks. Our order should have been taken right then since there was already a huge delay in our service. (I get that servers get in the weeds, but this was absurd).
Angrily clearing dirty tables to the point I thought something would break.
Avoiding eye contact to avoid refilling drinks.
Needing to be asked to fill drinks.
Avoiding your section, knowing that we had been there way too long.
A ridiculous response from the manager, making excuses for a server with a really bad attitude who clearly didn't want to do his job, along with zero offer of any kind of compensation.
Bringing food out on a cart. Just no....
Serving cold food that was clearly sitting in the window for some time.
Not checking back to see if everything is good. My son literally ate cold biscuits and gravy.
Needing to be asked for boxes, the bill, and compensation.
Absolutely zero teamwork. Why don't you run each other's food???
I'm sorry you had a bad day. I've been a victim of not having servers show up. I get that it's annoying, but I NEVER took it out on my guests. Communication is key. Also, you work in the hospitality industry. Be hospitable or find a new...
Read moreThis happened and review is for October, Sunday, 28. Awesome experience, Emily is an awesome waiter has perfect manners and treated us all far above and beyond what I would expect from a waitress. My group witnessed halfway through our meal she was at this families table then walked away and then this lady starts yelling that she was being rude which I didn't hear her be rude and don't believe that she was rude because of how Emily had treated us. The lady then starts treating Emily really badly, also who I assume was the manager was sitting there and the lady treated her very poorly as well. I was actually embarrassed for her family because she was acting like the definition of a spoiled little crybaby that feels entitled to the world, excepts everyone to bow down to her terrible attitude, manners, and basically she was a poor excuse of a person. She then proceeds to stomp her feet like a 2 year old yelling that they were leaving. Good riddance people that act like that one shouldn't even be in public much less be eating in a restaurant. You could tell the daughter at the table was so embarrassed and was apologizing for her mother's awful excuse of what people call behavior. I felt so bad for Emily this women acted completely out of the realm of what a human being should act like let alone the fact that Emily was apologizing to this lady was wrong this women was human garbage. I'm sure she thinks she was treated wrongfully and believes it when in fact she was the one completely in the wrong and I honestly she is a total whack job pathetic excuse of a parent let alone a human being. Emily still treated our table like GOLD after being verbally abused and harassed by this psycho and obviously sorry excuse of a person. I honestly don't think I would of been able to just stand there and take that abuse from someone and Emily just took it and tried apologizing to our table which she didn't need to do, that sorry excuse of a human should have apologized to us and everyone for acting the way she did and treating Emily like trash. Sorry for the rant I just can't believe someone acted like that in public I pray she never goes out in public again and I would hate to be on the receiving end of karma that this sorry excuse of a person is going to receive. Keep up the great food service Emily and always keep being the amazing waitress you are. I really hope the next time we go to IHOP that we get Emily again she made sure to make a point of checking on us...
Read moreAbsolutely Disgusted!!! A Birthday Breakfast Ruined at IHOP American Fork
Every time I visit IHOP, I order the veggie omelet. And every single time, it gets worse. But what happened on May 18th at the American Fork, Utah location was beyond unacceptable, it was appalling.
We came to celebrate my wife's birthday with our entire family, a party of ten. I ordered the same veggie omelet I always get, and it was burnt, sloppy, and looked nothing like it was supposed to. It tasted absolutely god-awful. I didn’t complain in the moment because I didn’t want to ruin the celebration for my wife in front of our family.
But what really set me off, and what I’m calling out publicly, is what the server did at the end of our meal. I had already given her a cash tip, out of respect. Our kids paid for the breakfast this year as a gift to their mother, and when it came time to pay, the same server handed the card reader directly to our teenage daughter, and told her to "pick what you want to tip me."
Let me be clear: This is completely inappropriate, unprofessional, and borderline harassment. She put pressure on a teenager to tip her again, even though I had already tipped in cash. That behavior is shameful and manipulative, and it ruined the whole experience for us.
To IHOP: How dare you allow your employees to behave this way? Especially to young customers, in the middle of a family celebration. That server acted like this was totally normal, which tells me she probably does this to other customers regularly. I’m beyond disgusted. No customer should be put in this kind of uncomfortable position.
IHOP, I expect you to reach out to me immediately to address this and make it right. Your management at this location clearly needs retraining—or replacing. And to future customers: do NOT eat at the American Fork IHOP. If this is how they treat people celebrating a birthday, imagine what they’ll do on a regular day.
This location does not deserve...
