Protocol has been a popular spot for me and my loved ones to enjoy a nice dinner and/or celebrate special events, it’s been a favorite of mine since I moved here! Typically I have a lovely experience, with all around positive feedback. For example, I love the ambient lighting and atmosphere, it’s so cozy. I also highly recommend their chicken sandwhich, french fries, Caesar salad, and if you’re up for a substantially sized & priced drink — the Lady Hendricks.

However the last time I went here about a week ago, my partner and I were left uncomfortable with the overall service and payment process (tipping pressure). The previous visits I’ve made to Protocol I was given paper receipts. I completely understand the universal transition to virtual methods and the convenience of them. However I was saddened when paying on a small machine our server held it, then positioning and directing the screen towards himself so he could watch when the tip screen appeared. He genuinely watched the tip screen the whole time. The tip amount was also already preset to the highest amount it could be, which may be automatic but it all felt very weird.

Don’t get me wrong, I always am beyond happy to tip and go into restaurants with the expectation to do so, I believe it’s so incredibly important. This may be on me for not asking for the device myself and not feeling as guilted into it, but that specific interaction made me pretty uncomfortable and left me feeling...

Protocol initially drew us in to visit during the fall of last year with their the eye catching interior. As a restaurant the menu changes with the seasons and as of today l've experienced both the fall plus spring menus. Despite the beautiful atmosphere, I wish that we had better experience with the food which is a key component of the dining experience. Our most recent visit made us not want to come back, at least not for food. We ordered the Caesar Salad and Fish sandwich, which both lacked a certain amount of flavor. We had to supplement them both with more dressing and sauce. I enjoy the aioli that comes with the fries though it was difficult to pick them up since a majority of the fries were the bits. We contemplated eating it with a spoon though eventually gave up. Even the drinks were weak in spirit both in the experience and alcohol content. I think on occasions this space would be nice for a fun drink out since it has a lively atmosphere in the evenings though don't expect a memorable meal or drinks... The best part of the experience is hopefully the people you're with. Though I have appreciated that the staff is always super nice and depending on what time you go the service is fast.

Update: After leaving the today restaurant we all felt sick as we drove home from our meal... We got...

From the moment we entered this new gem in Amherst, we knew it was the ideal place to continue our wedding festivities with our guests. Beyond its captivating vintage aesthetics, the space was immaculate, and the wonderfully crafted bar stole the spotlight. The food, especially the mouthwatering fried chicken sandwich, left our guests beaming with delight, perfectly complemented by delectable craft cocktails. The convenience of its downtown location in Amherst, within walking distance of our hotel, only added to the appeal.

Working with Daniela was an absolute pleasure. Her vibrant energy, enthusiasm, and flexibility made the planning process a breeze. She was always ready to lend a helping hand, answer our questions at any hour, and went above and beyond to ensure our celebration was flawless. Protocol, under Daniela’s expert guidance, provided the perfect ending to our wedding night. I look forward to revisiting this fantastic establishment whenever I'm in town, knowing that their exceptional service and inviting atmosphere will make each visit...

Since hearing about the opening of protocol, this has been on my list to try. My sisters and I went out for dinner and it did not disappoint! We decided to share a few of the small plates and everything was delicious from drinks to dessert. We had the roasted carrot hummus, zucchini fritters, bruschetta and butter chicken beignets. We each got a drink and were so impressed by the presentation and quality of everything. We then split the tres leches and olive oil cake. Both were delicious and tasted so fresh. We left already planning out our next visit to try more of the plates. Highly recommend checking this place out, if I lived closer this would definitely be a staple restaurant. Recommend the butter chicken beignets and zucchini fritters, the pictures don’t do the food justice but everything was 5/5 for us!!

Been waiting for a place in town like this! You can tell there was a lot of thought and care put into this for the customers. From the soothing, warm and welcoming atmosphere, to the great service, I’m heavily impressed by Protocol. I feel like I’m in the city going in here, and the seating is extremely comfortable and flattering. There are live plants inside which adds a refreshing element. By the bathrooms there is a private event space that I saw and hopefully will use for a birthday event in the future!! Although we only ordered drinks and fries, we will be back to try more of the menu. Overall, this place is a must visit downtown and great for a girls night

The restaurant is very welcoming with so many plants throughout the restaurant. There's plenty of street parking and it's in a busy area. Seat yourself and the staff will greet you with a menu. It did take a while to get someone's attention. The fried chicken sandwich comes with chips. Order a side of fries, they are really good! The chicken is different than other places, I can't quite explain it. I think it's extra crispy while not being overcooked. This is a good place with a relaxing atmosphere.
