My blood pressure spiked every time I attempted to sit down and write this review, but 10 days later, I am finally ready to give feedback on the horrible experience that was my birthday dinner.
My boyfriend and I visited Anacortes for my birthday, and I was so pleased that he suggested Anthony's. Having grown up in the Seattle area, Anthony's, in my mind, is synonymous with anniversaries, graduations, and celebrations of all kinds. Of course, it is a pricier meal, but it is an EXPERIENCE- well worth it for the memories, ambiance, and delicious food. After my birthday dinner, I now associate it with cranky staff, rushed digestion, and discomfort.
At 6pm, we went online to reserve a table, and the earliest available was for 8:15pm. When we got there, we were not seated until 8:30pm. Only then did I realize they close at 9pm, but this being ANTHONY'S, I knew they would likely seat us off to the side with the other latecomers, lock the doors and allow all the guests to finish their nice meals as peacefully as at any other time. Not so. We ordered, as staff rushed around us, loudly cleaning up, looking harried and irritated. The mood was frankly terrible, chaotic, and stressful. It felt as though staff were trying to passive aggressively urge us out as soon as possible. When our (cold) food arrived, it was frankly tasty, but I hardly remember it because MULTIPLE staff members came over to not-so-subtlely look at our plates and check if we were done. We ordered scallops in this supposedly fine establishment, but it may as well have been fast food from a terrible joint for how much we were able to enjoy it. Did I mention the loud, clanging noises of cleaning ringing throughout the restaurant? Our waitress sprinted to take our plates the second they were clean, and teleported to hand us our bill. We paid the bill (you know it was hefty) and were practically ushered out. We were in the car at 9:15, fuming. Truly, it was heartbreaking.
Why even offer reservation for 8:15 when paying clients will be treated as we were? Why not pay or train staff adequately so that they are able to provide a satisfactory experience at this supposedly fine establishment?
Additionally, and it almost feels silly to include, but though my boyfriend had indicated in the reservation that it was my birthday (there is an option to select the occasion), certainly nothing special happened. Why even have the option to indicate occasion?
Anthony's truly tarnished its brand in my eyes with this experience, and I will certainly be sharing it with anyone I know looking to go out for a special dinner. Everyone I've told has had the same reaction, crestfallen: "Really? Anthony's? I can't believe it." I couldn't believe it either. I wish my boyfriend had saved his money, and had saved us the...
Read moreI've been to other Anthony's locations so had decently high expectations, and they were not met.
We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation and were told "the kitchen is running behind" and that we'd be seated 15 minutes past our scheduled time. When we were seated, there were quite a few open tables, and there had been available reservations both before and after the time I chose, so maybe they were short staffed.
Service was slow throughout, and not in a "this is a fancy restaurant and courses come out slowly" kind of way. The server seemed like she was maybe a little annoyed. The only "extra" we asked for was more butter for the bread, which was tasty. The coconut prawns were great. The entrees were disappointing. I got the salmon special, my partner got halibut. Both were covered in way too much fruit yet were surprisingly bland. They both came with "rice pilaf" that was half dried fruit (raisins). The cheesecake definitely came from a mass market supplier. This was absolutely not a meal worth $160. I thought others were exaggerating in their reviews when they complained about the quality for the price, but no... do better, Anthony's, if you're going to charge this much.
The most annoying thing, though, was the BUGS. I had seen the reviews about the flies at the door and expected (and experienced) that, in fact I was regularly swatting flies away while waiting extra long for our reservation. But our table was absolutely surrounded by gnats. I probably killed 10 or 15 during dinner and that was only after I couldn't stand just swatting them away anymore. Other tables didn't seem to be waving their arms around so maybe it was just bad luck to be sat in a gnat gathering spot, but holy moly... it was extremely distracting from our date and frankly kind of gross. Anthony's, you may need an exterminator.
And finally, why ask on the reservation what you are celebrating if it won't even be acknowledged? I said that my partner was deploying the next day so this was a special date for us, and not even a mention of it by the host or server. Totally wasn't expecting anything for free or anything like that, but even a "I hear this is a special date night, would you like to order some champagne" would have been appreciated.
Overall, disappointing and I would not go back to this location or recommend anyone...
Read moreAs the story goes my girlfriend and I had been driving around town looking a nice place to eat. We decided to go with a familiar place as we have been to several other Anthony's locations in the Seattle area. We arrived and were told there would be a 45 min wait for a table (which is fine) so we put our name in for a table decided to go to the bar to wait. While in the bar we had ordered some happy hour stuff and a few drinks. At this point we had pretty much ordered everything we wanted. Mind you at no point in time had any staff member eluded to any sort of policy. Our bartender was phenomenal she took care of us and made sure we had a great experience while being seated at her bar top. The front of house staff was like hey your table is ready. So we were like hey ok let's go to the table as we were being seated the manager seating us dressed in all black gives us the most disrespectful condescending attitude as we are being seated she says "you're not allowed to be seated here if you order things from the bar you're breaking our policy we do not allow this" I look up and say "I'm sorry we were unaware of this policy, we can go back to the bar" she replies "no no we can let it go this one time" stunned at both her body language and tone I tried to focus on the food that we had ordered. Looking at the fare was just as dismal as the customer service experience we had just been through l. The calarmi was cold and soggy ( looked like it had been sitting out for a while) the salmon dip was ok. The crab dip was room temp or colder. The burger patty looked like it had been assaulted by the flat top and burned to a crisp. As we were eating I look up to see manager dressed in all black that seated us pointing at our table and then rolling her eyes at my girlfriend and I. As a small business owner myself customer service is something I look for when dining and trying new places. I can tell you from this experience this particular manager could use some more training on how to properly service her customers or simply just how to be a nicer person in general. We will not be returning to this location. Anthony's you...
