8/6/22-Update: adding a star here because someone in the accounting department resolved a reservation change related charge after I called in to inquire about it having discovered it on my cc statement. It really speaks to their character for Customer Svc. Despite some update challenges, service is pretty doggone awesome here. Kudos!
While the awesome experience of a much-needed family vacay the weekend before the 4th outweighed the stay, it would’ve been nice if the hotel had just a bit more cleanliness and comfort to offer. First off, the staff was great. For starters the young, calienté cutie of a valet guy, Leo. He embodied a great first impression for service. Seriously though, I appreciate how he didn’t give any hassle (usually they ask for keys and give a time limit) to park my truck out under the front lobby port for a bit as I floundered around to get my kids out & settled, then lug overpacked belongings from the trunk. Leo offered a luggage cart & I got it back to him bc oftentimes guests leave these outside of their rooms and staff has to go hunt them down. PEOPLE bring the luggage carts back down to the lobby for your fellow man and give the staff a hand! Leo’s courteous attitude was refreshing and set the tone for the type of service, including from other staff, we came to know throughout our stay.
As for the rooms (rented 2), these could use some refurbishing. Marriott is a preferred brand but this was a 3-star room letdown. A stickler for cleanliness and minimizing germs, easy to notice scuff marks on the walls throughout the room and bathroom, clusters of dust in crevices or corners, a slight hairy gunk clogged shower drain, a dingy throw rug in between the beds, etc. And could’ve done without spotting a couple of suspect pubic hairs in the shower + a long stray strand caught up in a large bath towel. Certain details being more magnified for a self-professed germaphobe that's OCD-ish. The A/C was kind of loud and clunky, like a fridge with a snoring problem- intermittently noisy through the night. Most of the carpet throughout the hotel looked like it hadn’t made love to an industrial carpet cleaner in months. And that laundry room. Not much better than one in a seedy neighborhood motel and brought back some childhood 80s nostalgia, ‘The Shining', because it was located down the end of a dark and dank hallway of an upper level floor. As I stood in there to toss some rinsed out swim gear into the dryer, had an eerie feeling I’d be seeing those twins pop up down the hall at any moment with a "come and play with us" invite. A bit creepy and outdated, that laundry room may not have been dusted and cleaned in decades. Kidding but it was pretty dark, dusty and severely outdated.
The restrooms throughout the hotel lobby didn’t fare much better, appearing a bit dank, dim and kind of dingy with paper towels strewn about, a stained floor and noted some smudge marks on bathroom stalls- could’ve doubled as a busy airport restroom. For bragging rights as a full-service Marriott, why not do better to improve facilities with some remodeling. And foot traffic aside, I’ve had a quite a share of stays at other busy full-service hotels but they managed to maintain a clean and comfy property. Pretty disappointing considering the location. And considering that these rooms can easily exceed $350 bucks/ night. Be it supply & demand. And parking: $29. I felt it could’ve been more reasonable at about $10/day if one must pay for parking.
Overall the pleasant poolside experience with my family, comfortable beds and service made up for any lack of impressive lodging. Kudos to housekeeping and the laundry bin toting gentlemen (don’t recall his name) who never passed without a warm smile and chipper greeting. The front desk was good about acknowledging guests and offered pretty fast turnaround on requests. Would we stay here again? Maybe, just that it seemed a bit mediocre for a full-service Marriott. There’s definitely room for improvement (no...
Read moreApologies for the length of this review, but its been an exhausting saga since I stayed at this property, but if I can stop another person wasting their $$$ then it is worth it. ||If you don’t want to read it all, let me sum it up by saying, if you are looking for a noisy & rather odd property, with disinterested staff, drunken guests, ineffectual management and bed bugs then look no further! ||I was visiting Disneyland as part of my delayed birthday celebration and chose the Marriott as I thought it would provide a more grown-up and restful retreat, after all day in the parks - boy I was wrong! ||Having enjoyed 12 hours of Upper Class hospitality, and then a nightmare journey by public transport as my car didn’t show up at LAX I just wanted to get into my room, shower and sleep! ||I will say the property looks very impressive, from the outside. Once inside I was greeted by a wall of noise. Obviously Anaheim is a conference destination but everywhere there were drunken and loud delegates and all that entails. ||Approaching the check-in it was immediately clear that I was more an inconvenience than a welcomed guest as the gentleman barely halted his conversation with his colleagues. He couldn’t find my Marriott membership details so said I wouldn’t be able to access email… OK! ||I had status at the time with Marriott and through my profile had politely requested (if possible) a higher floor, quiet room, away from the elevator. ||What greeted me was a very oddly designed room on the ground floor, but having been travelling for a day I just wanted to get into bed. ||I was awoken by loud voices, both in person and on their phones, as my room was directly above the service entrance, overlooking the parking lot. So not only did I have staff congregating for cigarettes and loud conversations but also deliveries, coming & going, at all hours. The corridor was also the main way to the pool so as noisy as you can imagine. ||After 2 sleepless nights and for the first time ever, I requested to be moved rooms. Another unhelpful & surly female member of staff hummed & hawed, telling me there were no rooms available. Then she recognised my status and another room magically opened up. She told me it didn’t have a view to which I replied “I don’t care as long as it’s quiet”. At the end of the corridor, it overlooked the conference facilities and was blissfully noise free. ||I had a wonderful time at Disneyland and spent the minimum time at the hotel. I moved on to Citizen M in downtown LA where the whole stay was wonderful and in complete contrast to my Marriott stay. ||There I discovered my legs were breaking out in red wells and rashes. My parting “gift” from The Marriott was being bitten by bed bugs. I think is the prefect analogy for my stay. I spend 120+ nights in hotels across the globe and have never had the joy of bed bugs before - or since! ||At The Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse in SFO I received a follow-up survey, regarding my stay and having time to kill I decided to fill it in. And so the disappointment continued… ||I have had no less than 3 managers, from the hotel apologising profusely and promising to deal accordingly with the issues, but one after another they simply cease communication. That is a polite way of saying simply ignore! I have never deal with such unprofessional and frankly inept individuals. ||To add insult to injury the individual, Cory Ryan, who responds to the feedback on here was the first manager to supposedly take ownership of my concerns. ||Marriott customer service is every bit as unhelpful. No wonder I rarely stay with Marriott these days. ||If you have made it this far I appreciate it. I urge you to please...
Read moreHere is a list of the problems:
we went through 9 keys. we found out the door was automatically locking behind us and deactivating the keys, plus 2 rooms should not be assigned to the keys and they were. The electronic key, which I personally requested, was also deactivated after it was activated for about an hour for no reason at all.
the bellboys had a major problem with consistency regarding packages and showing up for check out. First I had a package of water delivered for $34. I signed for it and went to the room. A few days later, another package of $18 was shipped and upon pickup I was informed I should have been charged $20 per package. I informed them that was ridiculous and I would not pay since I wasn't informed. They changed the charge to $5 and then also charged me $5 for the first package without informing me. Upon check-out, they took 20+ minutes to arrive. Since I was flying out of LAX I needed to leave by a certain time to make it there and go through security. I took care of my 3 trips of luggage personally with my wife and child watching the items downstairs, while I was sick.
The "luxury" suite upgrade was ugly, pea-green, and straight out of the 80's. The hide-a-bed was difficult to use and had no sheets. When we complained, we were provided with the option of going to a smaller room, with still only one bed and only one bathroom (the suite had two). There were no paper towels, or even soap in the bar area.
My wife suffered from food poisoning on Saturday the 26th at he Nfuse restaurant and we still have not had a reasonable resolution. We are awaiting the results of the investigation.
on Friday the 1st there was a convention at ACC. We were not a part of it. We were not informed that we would have to change our daily routine and walk a block in order to have Lyft/Uber/Taxi services provided to us as the city blocks the entryway from those types of cars. There was no email or sign posting regarding this and we ended up missing an event at Disneyland as a result.
Overall, the only appropriate solution ever provided was from the night manager who personally walked us to the concierge lounge to make sure our "Thank You" keys worked and walked us to our hotel rooms to personally make sure they worked. He sent up the maintenance person to address the doors. We were given some points and a little bit of credit towards our bill, but overall we were not happy with the experience and do not recommend families to stay at here. The walk to Disneyland is not worth the cost. I would recommend the other hotels nearer to Disney for a family.
Note It’s now 2024 and since the place was remodeled we thought we might try this again. Worst idea ever. This place is still horribly pretentious.
It’s a horrible for hotel for smiles. Hardly anyone here smiles, everyone is rude, I got yelled at for touching a luggage cart when no one was around, then after being yelled at to not touch the cart I stood there like an idiot for 15 minutes because the valet told me someone was coming since I shouldn’t touch the luggage cart.
This is a horrible hotel I don’t recommend coming here ever. Ever with a family. I suppose if you are here for a stuffy conference I guess it might be okay since everyone else will be as grumpy as you anyways.
Don’t stay at this hotel if you have a family. Spare yourself...
