We made reservations and were told the only available seating was at 5:15 and on the patio. As it was a very nice day, we thought this would be okay, but boy were we wrong.
First, we got into the elevator and press the button for the 12th floor (the restaurant floor) and were greeted with a message saying, "This is a restricted floor", so the elevator would not move. A guest then got in, put his key to the reader and pressed his floor, so we tried again to press floor 12. You got it; we were greeted with the great "This floor is restricted" message again. Rather than go to the guest floor, we piled out of the elevator before the doors closed on us.
So off to the front desk I go to find out how to go to find out how to get the elevator to take us to the restaurant only to be greeted by 20 very angry people waiting to check in. I waited for one of the front desk people to free up and after 5 minutes was told only elevator #1 and #3 work to go to the restaurant and to find one of these. There was no signage or anything stating this anywhere, and the only staff I could find were the two people at the front desk!
Once we found the right elevator and got to the 12thfloor, the hostess took us to our patio couch/seat. There were three of us and they sat us in a section of the couch with just two 16" round tables to hold our drinks and dinner. As there was no way this would work, we asked if there was a way to get another table for the third person, after checking, the waitress said they had other people coming at 6:00, so there were no available tables on the entire patio to give us. We thanked her and decided to make do and ordered some appetizers and drinks.
Shortly after ordering we started to get very hot, I would even say bake, as there was no shade, no breeze as in front of us was a big glass window, and behind us a set of reflective windows. We asked about getting an umbrella, but they said they did not have any; they had heaters, but nothing to block the sun on a hot sunny day. It got so bad about halfway through our first round of drinks and appetizers (15 minutes), that I asked for the bill so we could leave before even finishing what we had and ordering dinner. The waitress told us she would see if there was seating inside, even though we were told more than once that they were booked and nothing inside was available, and to our total surprise, she found us a table inside! It was now 6:00 and not one other person came and sat in the area where they said they had reservations for and could not give us another table.
Once seated inside in the AC, we noticed that only about half the tables inside were taken, only one person sitting at the bar that would seat 10 people, and it stayed this way until we left about an hour afterwards. It seemed like they put everybody outside and kept the inside tables open for the customers that were spending money on food and complained about being in the extreme heat on the patio. We talked to a few staff members that backed this up. They even said that the people working outside hated it, as people left early and left very small tips because of the conditions, hence the staff made very little money working the patio. Unhappy staff does not make for a pleasant atmosphere.
If you are just two people and go later, as the sun is setting, the patio may be better, but again, you will have to eat off cramped 16" round metal tables. So do not plan on ordering more than one plate of food at a time. As for the food, it was good, and the price was you would expect when you are paying for the view, not the food. There is no valet parking, as that is for the hotel guest only, so you get to park in the parking structure and walk...
Read moreWe booked our anniversary dinner at Top of the V and requested the outdoor patio. Upon arrival, we learned that a private party made the patio unavailable and were happily seated in the dining room. We mentioned to our server, who was wonderful, that we had hoped to sit outside and asked if we could perhaps, take our dessert on the patio. The server suggested that indeed, the outside bar was available - if we could find a seat - we could have our anniversary dessert at the bar. We were very happy with this suggestion.
At the end of our meal, and after we had paid but before we had our dessert, we ventured outside to the bar. Unfortunately, the outside bar only had single seats available. As such, we went back to our table to have our dessert. We sat back down and waited to get our server's attention. I will note that at this time, there were many unoccupied tables throughout the restaurant - including several empty higher-top tables and many empty window-side tables. There were no patrons waiting at the host stand. The reason I noted these facts is because as soon as we returned to our table, a woman with longer, dark hair in a suit jacket was staring at us speaking with another female at the host stand. In my opinion, she was glaring at us - and I felt uncomfortable. I said something to my partner and we scanned the restaurant for our server. The woman with the longer hair came to our table and loudly announced that we had exceeded our time at the table and had to leave. We were confused - and we said OK, we were looking for a place at the bar but it was full. She again, said in her full voice that we can't sit at the table and need to leave. We said we were still waiting to finish our dessert and had tried to find a space at the patio bar but it was full and the patio was not available. She confirmed that the patio was not available and she needed us to leave the table. We said we were waiting for dessert and I said we could move to the interior bar to have our dessert. I don't think she heard what we were saying and it was... embarrassing. If I were an observer, I would think we were getting kicked out.
We said, OK, OK - we will leave and just then, our server walked up and explained that we were still eating. Only then did the woman understand that we had not finished our meal. She then said curtly that we "could stay while we were still eating." (My partner and I looked at one another confused - of course we can stay while we are still eating...? Did she want to force us to take our dessert to go?) Our server brought our anniversary dessert and we ate it quickly as the woman with the long hair had said we only had a few more minutes to be within our allotted time at the table. We wolfed down the dessert and left. The woman who told us our time was up never apologized despite her lack of understanding. We were humiliated in front of the entire dining room and left mortified.
I will note that there were several tables around us that were seated either contemporaneously or before us - and were still present when we departed. I understand that Top of the V has a premium view and as such, their needs are unique. I understand that some establishments must have time limits. We did not see any time limits on their website and were not informed of any time limits when we arrived so we were completely taken off-guard. I am certain, that whatever the restaurant's needs were, it could have been handled discreetly, politely and with grace. Before posting this review, I sent them a letter and received no response. We spent a lot of money to be humiliated, hopefully,...
Read moreWas really wanting to love this place! I still feel it has a lot of potential but they missed the mark this night. Went in last Friday 7/16/21. It was for my boyfriends birthday. Made reservations & asked Hostess both times (on the phone & in person) if we can get a dessert and happy birthday sung for him as he is the one who resides in Anaheim and had been wanting to try this place out. I thought it would've been the perfect birthday dinner.
Well we started the night with drinks and appetizers. Grabbed the octopus and it was delicious. The drinks were good too. For the main course I ordered the Lobster Paella which is what was recommended. He had the steak with potatoes on the side. This was really disappointing... my lobster was so over cooked I had 2 bites. It was so rubbery and dry. This seems to be the star of the show, as this is Spanish cuisine and Paella is the most typical dish to order. Lobster was overcooked terribly. I couldn't even to have another bite- and unfortunately for me it took 2 people for me to connect with the 3rd person whom let me know they would replace my plate. It took about 10 minutes for me to get someone to talk to all while my boyfriend ate alone. By the time my food got there (ended up ordering a steak since the lobster was tainted) he had finished his meal and was on to a drink whilst I ate. They let us know meanwhile that it was last call soon. (our reservation was for 8:30) Had to get my food boxed up- and they never offered a dessert menu or even mentioned his birthday. ( good to mention that across from us a couple had celebrated a birthday with a dessert and candle from staff while we were ordering drinks)
Anyway, steak was ok. Octopus was great and so were drinks. Our waiter was nice and apologetic but hey- for a few hundred for a dinner I was just hoping for some attention to client... the place waste even half full.
The views are great though and we did see firework show- so...
