[Original Post — Incident occurred 5/23 in the afternoon]:
I’ve been here many times. It’s typical for the burrito to not be wrapped well, so it falls apart. The other day there was a group of female employees in the dining area just taking selfies and yelling loudly. Like seriously at the top of their lunges. And I’m sitting one table away from them. How inconsiderate and obnoxious. On several occasions they charged me for guac and/or queso when I didn’t get it, so we had to go through the process of proving it wasn’t on there and then taking more time to return it (good thing I checked my receipt). The tables and floor are often littered with food. Most of the ingredient buckets have food in them from other buckets
And on top of it all: 3 days ago I got a chicken burrito. It was the only thing I ate all day. I’m convinced I got food poisoning. I had chills, lethargy, fatigue and was extremely nauseous. Now for the last 2 days I have had the runs constantly. And guess what’s in the toilet bowl? All of the contents of what I ate in the burrito. It’s easy to tell because all of the undigested rice, and that was the last time I had rice. This is incredibly unusual for me. I eat out all the time, and it’s been years since I have felt this horrible from something I ate
Needless to say I’m going to be avoiding eating here for a long time. If you feel sick and had Chipotle from this location please share your experience because serving food this awful is dangerous
[Update — 5/26 in the afternoon]:
I received a response from the company to my Google review. It’s the same, generic, seemingly disingenuous response that every other person gets. I just followed the link and reported what happened to the same detail I did in the review. I’ll let ya’ll know what comes out of it!
[Update — 5/28 in the afternoon]
Since following the link and reporting this incident, I have been in contact with a specialist in the Customer Incident Team. I was asked to provide some information and describe what happened. The specialist was thorough in fully understanding the situation, and today I got a phone call from him to fully resolve this matter
I felt that he took this incident very seriously. He told me the steps he has taken and is continuing to take to make sure this is addressed with the manager and team at this location. I feel much more reassured that there will be some much-needed changes in the near future at this location, which many other customers have also mentioned
Here’s to hoping! I will reassess my review in the future (once I feel enough time has passed that I’m willing to give this location...
Read moreUpdate 7/19/25 - The kids and I have been coming now more often. We did try it again at some point over the last year and now every time has been excellent. Multiple trips. Good meat is my biggest thing, especially steak. Everything has been spot on over the last year so I’m changing my review.
Update from 12/3/22 - tried stopping here again because it’s on my journey. I passed by the Merle Hay location in Des Moines (which I’ve been going to because it’s always good but Ankeny is less off the interstate). Was getting food for me and my family. We were heading down the line and they were out of mozzarella cheese. Not a big deal in and of itself…until you realize it’s 6pm on a Friday night and the place is basically empty. Then you see the guac that is all brown. Like all brown. Which means it’s not even tried to be stirred or kept fresh for awhile. And the lettuce that is kind of wilted. And they say it will be up to 10 minutes for the cheese. Then they try to save our burritos to that point, thinking the made up burritos to that point will just sit their for 10 minutes until the cheese is ready.
We walked out. We went to Ames, Ames was packed with people. Staff cooking fresh steak, putting out fresh ingredients. Just better management it seems. Ankeny Chipotle once again shows it’s really not functioning ok.
(Old review below) I eat chipotle often. Almost weekly. But I’m almost always disappointed when I try the Ankeny chipotle. Stringy stew like steak. And I always try to remind myself not to do an online order because they short me on everything unless I’m there watching. Don’t do double protein online at Ankeny because you will never get that. Don’t order online either if you can help it. Today’s steak I pulled out most because it was stringy and...
Read moreIf you have Celiac Disease or you remain gluten free for MEDICAL purposes, this post is for you. I recently moved to Iowa from Arizona. I found Chipotle while living in Arizona and they were AMAZING at not making it a big deal that I had to be gluten free, due to Celiac Disease, not a fad diet. They would change gloves, wash their hands, pull the lettuce, cheese, sour cream, and salsa from the fridge; because it hadn't been contaminated by the gluten from the tortillas yet. They would pull the spoons from anything else I wanted to eat and replace them with new ones. This was a customary service for their customers with gluten problems. They were the only place I would eat out because I never got sick and they were extremely accommodating. I frequented Chipotle in Arizona, sometimes more than once a week. Here in Ankeny, however, this hasn't been the case. Today one of the employees threw a tantrum after touching my food with her contaminated gloves. I explained to her that I have Celiac Disease, not a fad diet, I literally can not have the gluten touch anything I consume. She then yelled at a coworker in front of the 5 of us in line and the customers seated and eating. I was completely embarrassed and angry that I have been an advocate for this restaurant because they are so accommodating to those of us that can't go anywhere to eat. Any and everytime I go out to eat, it's been at Chipotle. Unfortunately, this particular location does not even come close to the service I was accustomed to in Arizona. I will be trying the Jordan Creek location next time, hopefully they will be more...
