The Other Place Ankeny — Restaurant in Ankeny

We went there with a group of 14, yes 14. When we arrived the place as dead and there were very few tables. Only one of the waters that were ordered had NO lemon but the server couldn't remember who that was. the sodas that were ordered sat empty most of the time. The AC (which I understand it happens and it isn't anyone's fault) but the doors were open so the breeze was nice. three of our meals did not come out and the server and manager both didn't know that we were missing three. They thought they only needed one burger. Heard others complain that their meat sandwich was very dry and one didn't even eat her meal it was that bad. Once they figured out that they were missing three meals the manager came out showing that the printer for their grill had cut it off as it ran out of paper. (I work in the food industry and even if the printer cuts out you have more then one that prints it and they should of had the whole order. the server should of saw it too and said something. The worst part is the cook should of made sure that they got everything. The burger was on the very bottom right before it was cut off but they didn't make it.) We go there at 8 and didn't leave till about 10. Should be named go to another place. Terrible service with how dead it was and the manager just tried to come up with excuses instead of just fixing everything. This was my first time there and I sat there for 2 hours to have to take my food home as everyone was done before the rest of our food came out. the server asked if anyone needed boxes right when the final three meals came out. So after going there I couldn't tell you what the food was as I didn't even eat there! I ate the food later and about threw up right after. The longhorn burger came with one pickle too. Oh you meal a pickle spear? No a single slice of a pickle that was on a tooth pick through the top of the burger. one tiny slice of a pickle? sad. Again go somewhere else and don't waste your time. First off our waiter was nice and tried to fix the situation that was out of his hand. We traveled 3.5 hours and decided they weren't busy and we could eat and make our appointment on time... Wrong. We took a bit of time ordering but after we ordered it took over 45 minutes to get our food. Mind you only three tables ordered food and the rest were empty. After we finished our drinks we decided we couldn't wait any longer; boyfriend - burger/fries, son - burger/fries, me - lasagna/salad. After getting up to pay the bill and leave they finally gave my boyfriend the food when he was trying to pay... a whole hour later. They had it ready to go. Okay, cool. Except when I opened the bag; one burger had a boatload of fries and the other had not even half of what the other had. No salad. But my lasagna was sitting around for a while because it was disgusting and it was like chewing a rubber band. So I made him turn around and I decided to go in. They agreed that they messed up and it wasn't acceptable. They offered to give a refund of some of the bill and I accepted. Yeah, they lied and never did. They have staff standing around joking in the kitchen but can't serve or cook food. One guy is taking drinks and orders... but the girls get to mess around. Cedar Falls never had this issue. I was told not to eat there and amazingly enough, a customer said she was giving it a chance even though her daughter has had issues with her past few orders and will never eat there again. OK so the other 2 times we had visited this place I was a little less than impressed... however, Mackinzi totally changed our minds this go round! Guess 3rd time really is the charm! She was on point! We didn't have to wait for anything! Even when she her section started to fill, she remained ever so attentive. A huge plus, her personality and kindness! My daughter can be kind of awkward when it comes to socializing and my son tends to be a bit shy. She had a way with them both, which I know has nothing to do with the restaurant within itself but when you find a server like that, it makes you want to go back! Now, to do with the restaurant, the chip and trio dip is a must when we visit. I love that I can get chips and salsa/queso along with spin dip here...most places require ordering 2 apps just to get that. All 3 dips are wonderful. Not sure if the salsa is made in house but it certainly tastes as tho it could be. The burgers are also pretty dang delicious. I got the South Philly burger and couldn't help but do that 'happy girl eating' dance every time I took a bit. I'm certain I looked like an idiot but it was so good, I didn't care!
