Editing to add: It has been about one year since I started going to First Bite, and I've been there about 50 times. I am not kidding when I say I have not EVER: 1) Had bad food or a bad ingredient; or 2) Had bad service. I can't think of ANY other restaurant in Ann Arbor (or elsewhere) I can say that about. The quality of the ingredients is just outstanding. My faves: Beany bowl, veggie omlette with fingerling potatoes, Ann Avocado toast with a side of extra crispy bacon, beet burger, chicken curry, Green Power Smoothie, etc. All do not disappoint! Give them a try! Super friendly service. :)
Initial review: Food and service was EXCELLENT! I had the half beany bowl (sooo good - great combination of flavors) and a side salad with their incredible creamy avocado balsamic dressing. Nom nom nom nom :-) Super quality ingredients - you can tell. Clean, nice atmosphere. Comfy seating. I will be back VERY soon (like tomorrow? - can't wait to try one of the avocado toasts). Price was very reasonable for the amount and quality of the food. Thanks for a great experience!
Edited to add: So I did go back, like tomorrow, which was yesterday. :) Had the veggie omelet with fingerling potatoes and multigrain toast with strawberry jam. All of the food was excellent - perfectly cooked omelet with just the right amount of ingredients, potatoes were still nicely firm but crispy, yum!, and the toast and jam were a perfect accompaniment.I'm not a fan of stuffing myself, so I had enough leftover for a nice afternoon snack or breakfast the next day. I will be going back today...
Read moreWhen my sister and I were leaving First Bite on Monday, we were raving so much about the food that we forgot to pay--we remedied that oversight after she thanked me for breakfast when I was about to thank her! The food and service deserve at least ten stars. My feta and spinach omelet contained enough fresh spinach to fulfill a week's recommended veggie intake. Her vibrant veggie omelet caused her to change her tune regarding the unimpressive vegetables we had eaten in other Ann Arbor restaurants. She also observed that the gluten-free toast was the best she had ever consumed, citing that most g-f breads make her gag. We LOVED our server. When I experienced a senior moment by mistakenly ordering cream AND milk for my coffee, he questioned my choice without a hint of sarcasm. He went on to regale us with stories about the restaurant and his enjoyment of working there. The time we spent at First Bite capped off our terrific weekend in Ann Arbor. ...
Read moreVery friendly service. Prompt attention and food orders finished quickly. I like the one dish I had there which was a masala omelet. The food was prepared with care and everything I saw on the table looked equally well made. The menu seems focused on fresh ingredients, vegetarian dishes, and relatively light, simple preparations, and yet I wouldn't be concerned about leaving hungry because the portions are ample and they have enough variety that there's likely to be something for everyone. They offer some items with chicken and many of the dishes contain eggs and/or milk, but it appeared that they were prepared to make most of their menu items vegan, and possibly gluten free, if they are asked.
The dining room is casual. It would be a pretty good place to eat alone as the mood feels very much like a diner, but at the same time it wouldn't be a bad place to go with a group because the layout is conducive to social...
