Monahan's is always the first place we want to go when heading to Ann Arbor. I'm glad to report that they are shucking oysters again. Mike (the owner) shucked them for us personally. They were fantastic.
It was Wednesday and the special of the day was Thai shrimp with rice and Asian slaw. That also was delicious. Crispy fried wild gulf shrimp with a sweet/spicy Thai sauce.
What ever you do ALWAYS order the chowder of the day!!!! I don't know what Wednesday's chowder was.....other than chuck full of seafood. That is the best freaking chowder we've ever had!!
We got lucky and were able to sit at the counter. We over heard everyone's order and I think I heard at least 6-7 orders of fish and chips (which I've had here before and it was phenomenal). One person ordered 8 salmon patties uncooked to go (I think she bought all they had made for the day LOL)
Their are so may other things that we want to try so we'll just need to keep coming back. And a shout out to the pickled herring selection!!
8-20-2025 update. Somehow we never got the fish and chips here? Wow the best fish n chips we have had. Fries dipped in homemade tarter sauce for the win. I don't know if it was the beer batter or the fresh pollack but that fish was top notch
Opted for steamed little neck clams instead of shucked oysters. Fresh zingermens thick slices of bread to soak up the wine clam...
Read moreMonahan’s Seafood Market is by far the best around town. Not only is their fish, fresh and delicious their food is amazing too. For the past weeks I’ve been craving a hamburger but due to a recent heart attack, I’m staying away from red meats, unless it’s high quality meat. On today's adventure to Kerrytown, with Found being the main destination, I decided to take a peek at what Monahan’s is serving up. Of course I ordered their seafood chowder, which is creamy, hearty, warms you up from inside like a great whiskey, as you sit by the fireplace, and delicious. But back to me craving a hamburger. I know fish is nothing close to the deliciousness, juiciness, mouth watering experience only a hamburger can offer. But Monahan’s salmon burger was not a bullseye but it came damn close. Unlike most salmon burgers at overpriced, white tablecloth restaurants around town, this salmon burger was not dry. Their mustard-dill sauce a great accompaniment, not the main flavor. The brioche bun, lettuce, tomato and red onion are there for moral support. They’re there, but just cheering on the salmon burger from the sideline. The star of the show and the main flavor is from the rich Atlantic salmon which was cooked just right, it had the nice crust that gave the burger another layer of mystique. Thank...
Read moreOrdered two ready to cook teriyaki salmon to go. Cost was over $30. Got home to discover the pieces of salmon were nothing but slivers of meat. They wrapped them in a giant piece of butchers paper, got home and opened it up to find a mostly empty wrapper. The wrapper they used could have held 6 of the portions they gave me, very deceiving. They were even skimpy with the rice. Seriously, they couldn't even give me a nice portion of rice to go with the miniscule piece of salmon. What a complete rip-off! Both of these equal one unsatisfying $30 meal that I had to cook myself. Fiancee ordered four ready to cook fish for her family, cost was almost $60, same situation. We will not be wasting our time stopping here again. Flavor wasn't anything special either, tasted just like any other teriyaki sauce you've ever had. I can't even express the level of disappointment. At the local meat market near me you can buy a huge salmon fillet for $30 that you could cut into 8, maybe more, portions twice the size that I received from this place. I'm disgusted, can you tell?! Nothing about this experience was positive, average flavor, slow service,...
