Updated Review: Since opening weekend, I have had the opportunity to dine at Town Tavern multiple times. I have enjoyed several items on the lunch and dessert menu! The flatbread pizza and caesar salad make a perfect meal for the afternoon hours, and the brownie is AMAZING. The service has been wonderful and the manager remembers me by name every time I walk through the door. It's great to have a local spot with wonderful food and service. Looking forward to many more visits in the future!
We visited Town Tavern on opening weekend. So, we are hopeful that our review will be met with opportunity to grow and improve. The GM - Kevin - was absolutely amazing. It was apparent that he put a great deal of care and attention into the restaurant as he ran back and forth all night attending to whatever need there might be at the moment. I noted him greeting patrons, running food orders, cleaning tables, delivering drinks, and attending to customer complaints/needs. He works hard to do all that he can to ensure customers are content and that the restaurant is successful.
It appeared our server might have been new to the industry. She was not very aware of the items on the menu and disappeared often. At two points in the evening, she stopped by our table as if to ask if we were ready to order when we had already ordered our food. She was not energetic or sociable as I might expect from a restaurant server. I actually warned the couple who arrived near the end of my visit to expect delay in seeing the server that evening.
Initially, I ordered a water for myself, my daughter and my husband. I also asked for a chocolate milk for my daughter (I don't know that they anticipated this request as it was not listed correctly on my final bill and the server informed me it was not something she could input into the system) and a beer. I had a challenge identifying the drafts as the menu lists the brewers, but not the beer on tap. Our server returned with the milk, beer, and a single water. (It would be great if the servers delivered waters at the start.) My husband then ordered a soda. When it arrived (15 or so minutes later) there was very little syrup (hoping this is updated soon) and he was unable to drink it.
We were there for close to 2 hours and at no time did the server return with a refill for water (we asked 3 times) or another beer (I requested a second and never received it). We ordered the dumplings and burger. The dumplings were amazing. They were cooked to perfection and had an amazing flavor. The burger arrived as nothing more than meat and two buns. There was nothing else to it. I had anticipated at least a slice of lettuce or tomato. The fries were also overcooked and there were only a handful on the plate. By the time we received our food (40 to 45 minutes after we ordered), the fries and burger were also cool. We were about to send it back and simply take the check, but Kevin was quick to listen to our concerns and have the burger cooked again in the kitchen. He explained it was the first time someone ordered this meal and given it was opening night there was some confusion. When I received my second burger it contained lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle. It was cooked well and tasted great. The fries were still the same. At the end of the meal, we continued to wait to see our server again for the check. At this point, we had been waiting for drinks and were ready to give up and head home. When the server made her way back to the table, I requested the check. It was another 20 minutes before I was able to sign the check (had to get a pen from the host stand) and head home. I think this restaurant has potential (greatly due to the manager), but the staff could use some updating or additional training and the menu could use clarification (and perhaps a stronger...
Read moreAs an Arlington resident I was excited to try out Town Tavern. It is great to have another casual tavern in town. I wish we had waited a while for them to get their act together or gone when it wasn’t so busy and chaotic. It’s a nice place but when we left after the meal nearly two hours later I left annoyed and disappointed. In short, it was due to very slow service and a bad burger.
Despite seamingly enough servers for one for every three tables the service was very slow, though very friendly. Getting drinks from the bar took a long time and we only got water refilled once. The servers were running all around but our table did not get nearly enough attention.
The Taquitos appetizer is really good. The fried “oysters” were good but were not what we ordered.
Two of us ordered the burger which the waitress recommended. My friend ordered it done medium and I ordered it medium rare. Both were done medium well to well done even though the server declared mine was done medium rare. The burger was overcooked, dry, and flavorless. I had to douse it in ketchup to get through it. I would have said something but our waitress did not check on us and things were dragging on so long I just ate it. My wife ordered the Mongolian French Dip and enjoyed it. So I just ordered the wrong thing. I hope they figure out how to cook a good burger.
After we finished and told the waitress we were done, it took 30-45 minutes to get our check and get our credit card back. I am sure they will figure this out but for now I will avoid Saturday nights and...
Read moreWe found Town Tavern online when looking for a place to meet a friend visiting home from California. This place was between our homes and fit the criteria (full bar, diverse selection of food)
As you enter the restaurant it is open and welcoming. Our server, Clenilson D was personable and knowledgable with the questions we asked. We started with drinks and an order of fries while we decided on lunch. The fries were insane. They were hand-cut, cooked to perfection and seasoned with the right amount of salt. The malt vinegar elevated them to the next level. For our meal we each ordered a burger. I ordered the bacon cheddar burger, while my husband and friend each ordered the Tavern Burger. The burgers were excellent and highly satisfying. We finished our meal with a cappuccino, which was also excellent.
We planned on leaving, but decided to stop at the bar and have 1 more drink. The bartender, I think her name was Aubrey, was friendly and helpful as we tried to decide on what to order for shots. After her description of the Peppermint Martini we ordered those. They were rimmed in crushed candy cane and had a mini candy cane on the side. They made me feel like we were in a Christmas movie. Probably a Lifetime Christmas movie because Hallmark isn't big on alcohol drinks.
This will be our go to for our annual Christmas lunch with our friend and we may even go down during the year.
Merry Christmas and thank you for the great...
