This restaurant is the latest to open on the Pioneer strip. The menu is simple, composed of South Indian breakfast items including dosa, uthappam, pongal, idly, vada. There are over a dozen variations of dosa and uthappam, with different batter, fillings, toppings, spices, and method of presentation (either folded into a triangle or a tube shape). Each permutation has its own name.
I asked the owner for a dosa recommendation and he offered to prepare a "Andhra Kara Masala Dosai" for me, which is not officially on the menu. This dosa, wrapped into the shape of an equilateral triangle, was filled with lightly spiced potatoes that had creamy melted consistency. Unlike the ordinary "masala dosa" that most people have seen at buffets, the interior of my dosa was spread with with roasted Andhra-style masala powder which is supposed to be one of the hottest types in town. It contained a lot of heat that was barely manageable for me, one notch higher and I would need a lassi.
The dosa itself was as thick as a mousepad but at the same time crispy, which is not an easy combination to find. It had the balanced texture that I like, I've encountered many mediocre dosas elsewhere which were too thin and brittle, or thick and too chewy.
3 standard chutneys accompanied the dosa: tomato, coconut, and coriander flavor. These chutneys enhanced the taste of the dosa and also alleviated some of the heat, especially the tomato chutney. In addition, a small portion of sambar was provided. It was filled with chopped vegetables which made the lentil stew naturally sweet. Unlike the sambar at Chennai Tiffins, the one at Chennai Dosa House relies less on chili peppers and...

The sambar tasted like the ones I used to eat at Chennai. This is the first time am trying pongal here and it was real yummy. We went early so got the full place for ourselves and service was fast and friendly. Will be visiting again.
Very happy with the service of this small dosa corner. We were seated at the outdoor space. Place was hustling with indian crowd .Ordered onion tomato chilli oothappam , butter masala dosa , medu vada and chai tea.The Chennai soul in me was happy with the outcome of dosa and oothappam ,both were delicious along with the chutneys. Was slightly unhappy with the sambar, tea and vada as it wasn’t great taste wise and sambar was a little runny texture wise. But over all a nice experience. Would visit again for the...
Read moreOn a trip to Cerritos to meet a prospective client, I stopped by at Chennai Dosa Corner, a new South Indian restaurant that also serves Punjabi curries and North Indian food. And I am glad I did. I thoroughly enjoyed the freshly made Idlis and vegetarian Rava Dosa. The presentation, sambhar and the assortment of chutneys are extremely flavorful and spicy hot, and mind you, can clear up your sinuses... The restaurant is a small hole-in-the-wall located at the corner of the strip mall, and is quite clean with cozy seating. There's no waiting area except on the outside. The service was quite quick (there were only two other customers.) I also ordered Gobi Manchurian to go for my daughter and wife, and they both loved it. Overall, I thought the place is quite nice and am planning to visit again...
