After spending a month in the Bay Area indulging in some of the best Indian food around, my expectations were high upon returning to LA and choosing Honest as our next dining destination. Unfortunately, the food at Honest did not meet those expectations. The pav bhaji was a bright spot, with the bhaji hitting all the right notes in terms of flavor and spiciness, and a distinct taste of all the vegetables used. Two pav bhaji we ordered were sufficient to quickly fill us up, which is a testament to the dish's heartiness. It was not greasy compared to remaining dishes which is a plus. The Manchurian gravy and balls were also a highlight, but could have been crispier for optimal texture. The noodles and fried rice, however, were heavily laced with oil and lacked the distinctive smokiness that is often found in these dishes. They were spicy, but not particularly flavorful. The restaurant was full, with people waiting for a table, but we were lucky enough to be seated as a group of five. The service was quick and efficient, but the ambiance was nothing to write home about. Given the abundance of options in the area, particularly in Artesia, it's unlikely that I would return to Honest unless I was specifically looking for a pure vegetarian option. Overall, while the pav bhaji was decent and the Manchurian gravy and balls had potential, the heavy use of oil in the other dishes make it hard to recommend Honest over other Indo-Chinese options in the area.

We visited this place because of their famous Pav Bhaji but this time it was not good. The Bhaji tasted like peppered mixed vegetable curry with chunks of veggies in the bite. The bhaji was not mashed enough and it was not cooked with an authentic pav bhaji masala but store bought garam masala. We also ordered thier Bahubali sandwich which was pretty good. It has a mix of sauces, veggies (mostly potato and peas), jam, green chutney and loads of cheese on top. One feedback here would be to use cucumbers and tomatoes along with potatoes for a crunchy bite. The least favorite dish we ordered was Sev Puri. It had a dollop of potatoes on top with very little flavor. The proportion of potatoes and chutneys was off. It was very dry and felt like chewing boiled potatoes with salt. The last item we ordered was Rose Falooda. I have had better last time when I was here. This time the falooda had nothing more than store bought Vadillal’s Rose Falooda ice cream. It had a bit of basil seeds and rose syrup but the milk was flavorless with just sugar. We did not like this place. I would try it for their sandwiches but seems like their Pav Bhaji taste has gone for a toss.

I have tried most of the Indian restaurants in LA area and this by far is the worst I have ever been to! Like I can't explain how bad the food was. They butcher Indian food like anything even after pricing is crazy high. We ordered paneer 65 , speical pav bhaji, cheese pulav . Paneer 65 was more like fried paneer on a bed of chill oil, sour cubes of paneer , overflowing oil. Nothing close to authentic of indo chinese. Pav bhaji is a joke here , bhaji was screaming diarrhea. It was so watery and unauthetic , the only special was the worn out cashews on top which I dont know how it is an add on. Chese pulav had a smell, it tasted stale , was served cold and had no taste Whatsoever. I wish they would stop fooling people . I dont know why places like this even exist. If you are taking the money, make good food. Cant understand the disconnect. Never coming back and dont recommend at all.

4/5/25 update: Upon recent visit, it was clear that ownership, management and recipes have changed. New folks appear to have missed the key reason Gujarati patrons love Honest! It looks like the new chef did not learn how to authentically make Paav Bhaji and bhakri pizza from prior. Bhakri pizza crust came soft, was not cooked well and had to be sent back. Paav Bhaji tasted horrible, recipe was changed. It was yellowish, very local v. their iconic red recipe. Prices have risen and service levels dropped. The new team was running around like chicken with head cut off! Removing restaurant from favorites /- sad for honest lovers in SoCal. Please bring previous management, cook and staff back if you want to survive.

previous experience This used to be one of our favorite restaurants in Artesia when it opened. Honest is a reputable brand with amazing food in Gujarat and franchises in other parts of the world. But this location’s food quality has gone from good to bad. It it no longer the authentic Honest-type food you expect.

To compare. I recently tried their Plano location and was shocked to see the 360 difference - food, quality, quantity, service and presentation - everything was 1,000 times better. After that, tried the same dishes here and was utterly dissatisfied. Unlike other franchise locations, the Artesia location has not maintained their standards - portion sizes smaller, quality average to poor, spices not unique to the dish and prices higher. Very sad that very soon this location will start losing patrons. Hope the owners see this feedback and consider an overhaul if they wish to thrive in SoCal. Until then- please avoid this place and if you are a die-hard Honest fan, visit Plano or other locations in...

I hope everyone will choose their self respect over food. Worst ever experience in any restaurant around the world. We complain about poor food preparation and we were told that it's always been like this as if we have ordered the dish for the first time, however, that's still fine, we accepted that excuse and was considering not to order the same dish ever again, in the mean time the on duty manager came and said that he will bring us the fresh one. as we were already done, we didn't show interest in getting a fresh plate served, however the manager insisted and asked for a chance to correct the mistake, however, while we were waiting for the serving and wait-staff came by and rudely said that "we can't serve another dish to you and if you need one, you have to pay", it was so insulting, we didn't ask them to serve another and we didn't expect them to disrespect as well. it was the manager on duty who insisted us to wait. When the wait staff was asked to apologize by the manager he further used bad words and behaved very aggressively with the manager too. If the staff can't respect you as a manager, how would you expect them to respect the customer. The owner chimed in however, couldn't control the staff's behavior. The owner tried his best to convince us but with this instance no one will dare to go back and would like to make everyone aware that they should stay away from such restaurants.

We can together make them realize that we are the source of their...

Service - 0

TLDR: If you get there past 8:45pm and are added to the waitlist, RUN TO THE NEXT BEST RESTAURANT. They’re not worth your frustration at that time of the day!!

Full explanation: The lady at the reception added our name to the waitlist for 2 people at 8:50pm and told that they’d call us once a table was available (and we were next in life and the only ones in the waitlist), and that the kitchen closes at 9:25pm. We waited for 13 mins in which time multiple tables were available. This time there was a guy at the reception, who told us to wait and that he’d give us a table (once one of the tables was cleaned). We waited, and 10 mins later the guy was gone and the lady was back, who refused to give us the promised table. When we asked the lady why not give us one of the many empty tables, she said that they were only two folks working at the tables and that they couldn’t help us so they could only do take out orders. I understand that they were short staffed but why do this to us after making us wait for over 25 mins. She spoke only Hindi and she could’ve cleaned two tables in the time she spent explaining why they can’t accommodate us. She was too irritated, unfit to be at the front desk, was not at all considerate although she didn’t tell that we can’t dine there if THEY CAN’T CLEAN THE TABLES. It’s the end of the day and anyway they are gonna end up cleaning the tables so I don’t understand their explanation fully. Terrible...
