I meant to write this review awhile back, but forgot. So here we go. I was in Asheville with my GF for my Birthday weekend in February . We were walking the streets as the sun began to dip,and had plans to walk somewhere for Dinner. Suddenly we rounded a corner on Wall St,and we're nearly cut down by a cold blast of Arctic Wind. It was almost unearthly . It quickly changed our minds about continuing our walking adventure . We made it back to Aloft near death. We asked the Desk Attendant if there was ANYWHERE to get a pizza delivered from in this town. He cooly just said no. (Now I know he was lying, but that's another review). Anyway,he did flppantly direct us to Barleys Taproom across the street. Into the wind, again we go. Enter Barleys.Instantly relaxed. That kind of vibe. Hard Wood and Brick.I like it.The place was jumping, but families with children were perfectly happy sitting at the tables munching on pizza and other treats. A live band was cranking out tunes in the corner. We bellied up to the bar. Now,I'm not a Craft Beer guy,but your not gonna get a Bud light here. The Bartender was more than helpful finding me a decent brew I could handle. By this time I'm starving. We ordered a large Barley Special (supreme). Despite the packed house the pizza arrived without mutch delay. It was nice looking, generously topped, and the crust was right. More beers, happy munching ensues . After being about to pop,we paid our tab,and the Bartender hears me say "I wish there was a good close place to shoot some pool ". He promptly tells me I'm in the right place, and sends us upstairs. Behold! Another bar. No kids here. This is where you can get a little loose in the right way. Another cool Bartender. Nice large Pool Tables. Things get a little fuzzy after that, lol. We drank, and laughed, talked about Barleys Ghost(it's allegedly haunted), and chatted with some younger local Hipsters. We didn't mind that they were, and they didn't mind that we werent. Everyone's accepted. In short,we shut em down. Stayed till close. I left with a warm glow, and a full belly. My only complaint is that I had such a glow,I left my left over pizza behind :( . Man!! That sure would a been good for breakfast. Thank you Barleys,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been here multiple times and the food has been great and the live music was a nice touch; however, tonight was a little different. I went tonight for my birthday and was expecting a moderately large party (10 people), which I let them know about. We got seated quickly, everyone's orders were taken and everything was fine. After about 45 minutes, I noticed I was almost out of water and every time I would try to get my waitress's attention, she didn't see me or she was just not around for 15-20 min at a time. At first it was not a big deal because it was kinda busy and the music was kinda loud, but then it got to the point where another waitress noticed and stopped to help. Everyone was pretty much done with their food and after talking and visiting a bit, we realized we should probably get going. Same thing, every time we tried to get her attention she just kinda passed right over us and disappeared. After waiting like 20 more minutes my friend got up and told the host we had been waiting a while and we would like our tickets. He left to find someone I guess, but no one came to us for like 15 more minutes. Our original waitress was giving other checks to tables that had gotten there after us but overlooking our table. Finally after an hour of waiting for our check, she came and we told her how it was to be split. It was only like 4 checks so it shouldn't have been that complicated. She disappeared for like 10 min and came back to ask again how they were to be split. We reexplained and then she left for like 15 min. Finally we signed the checks and were able to leave after waiting so long to get our checks. Barley's is a good place to eat but this was a good...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe bar tender was fantastic, the beer selection was great. However, on a Friday night after ordering a pizza prior to them having a full house, we waited 45 minutes, 2 beers each, asked if we could move upstairs because the noise level had become to high for personal conversation at the bar. We paid our bill as it would not transfer upstairs? Then we moved, ordered another beer and our pizza was delivered. I attached photos of what was left. We were famished, ordered a pizza with half sundried tomatoes and banana peppers, the other half with meatballs and extra cheese. We also upgraded to a beer yeast pizza, sounds good right? This would have been great had it not been over cooked and some missing ingredients that had been added as an after thought. No extra cheese, banana peppers on about a quarter, sundried tomatoes covered almost a third, one piece of meatball, and ground beef covering another third, 2 pieces of pizza with no toppings at all! The cheese was broiled until it was tough, and the crust was difficult to bite through. We asked an employee if this was standard fare, their response was it looked really over cooked. We at as much as we could stand, being famished will cause you to do that especially when you have high Hope's and waited 45 minutes or more for food. Finished our beers and never saw another employee......... our tabs were paid, so we left....never to return! And to inform you all to stay away if you see any hint of them being busy. They dont care, and dont pay attention to you. Enter at...
