Table for 2 for lunch We had just arrived in town and had an activity scheduled in the next couple of hours. I looked out of our hotel window and spotted Barley’s Taproom and Pizzeria right across the street. We finished up in the room, crossed the street, and entered. We were greeted warmly, seated quickly, and provided with some menus. The place only had a few other customers, and the dining room was spacious but a bit dark. They had a second level, but the stairs were blocked off, so I didn’t get a chance to explore.Ā  We reviewed the beer menu, which was pretty extensive. We tried a couple of tasters. I sampled the Hazy IPA, and Wifey had the wheat offering. We loved both of them and ordered full sizes. We quickly decided on our food order. Wifey went for one slice of her favorite Margherita, and I ordered two slices of Pepperoni, debating between one or two but settling on two. As we waited for our food, we enjoyed the unexpected R&B music selection playing in the background. We were loving it. Before we knew it, our pizzas arrived. Pizza is all about the crust for me, and it was super crunchy. We both enjoyed our food, and I probably could have just ordered one slice.Ā  This place delivered great pizza and beer with quick, pleasant service at reasonable prices.I would definitely recommend a visit.Ā  4.5 Rating

May 2024: Just as good as I remember 20+ years ago! If you visit Asheville or already live here, you've got to go to Barleys at least once. We got garlic knots for the appetizer, the white pizza and the other was a meat pizza that had Italian sausage and pepperoni (can't remember the name). The first pizza (meat) came fairly quickly but the second one (white pizza) was somehow made wrong and we had to wait a good 15 min or so for it to come out while the meat pizza was getting cold. They did compensate us for the mistake of the white pizza since it came out and was still not what we ordered. Still very good pizzas! They have whole pizzas and pizza by the slice. They also have beer, salads, calzones, sandwiches, appetizers, etc. The upstairs is 21+ and has pool, darts and other things (I didn't visit up there). It is not a quite atmosphere, despite no children were there (I don't recommend bringing them) so do not expect a night of quite dining or if you are overstimulated easily. Parking is on the side of the road, if any available, or there is a parking garage across the street.

This was my first time and I actually didn't plan on going in but the place I was going to was closed. I'll just go ahead and chalk this up as one of those things that was meant to be because I had an awesome dining experience. The staff was super friendly and I started off with the Ecusta Blonde Ale and it was very light and flavorful, and so good that I had to have a few of them. And so I have saved the best for last on this review. It was a 7 hour drive for me to get to Asheville and the wings that I just ate made the entire trip worth it! I don't know what they do to these things back in the kitchen but they are absolutely phenomenal and hands down the best wings I have ever eaten anywhere in this country! And just when I was trying to contain myself from over excitement I tried the pesto aioli but they serve with the wings and this too was amazing. I almost asked for an extra tub of just the aioli to eat. I realized I should have tried the pizza but I'll save that for next time. Get these WINGS and thank me later!

I meant to write this review awhile back, but forgot. So here we go. I was in Asheville with my GF for my Birthday weekend in February . We were walking the streets as the sun began to dip,and had plans to walk somewhere for Dinner. Suddenly we rounded a corner on Wall St,and we're nearly cut down by a cold blast of Arctic Wind. It was almost unearthly . It quickly changed our minds about continuing our walking adventure . We made it back to Aloft near death. We asked the Desk Attendant if there was ANYWHERE to get a pizza delivered from in this town. He cooly just said no. (Now I know he was lying, but that's another review). Anyway,he did flppantly direct us to Barleys Taproom across the street. Into the wind, again we go. Enter Barleys.Instantly relaxed. That kind of vibe. Hard Wood and Brick.I like it.The place was jumping, but families with children were perfectly happy sitting at the tables munching on pizza and other treats. A live band was cranking out tunes in the corner. We bellied up to the bar. Now,I'm not a Craft Beer guy,but your not gonna get a Bud light here. The Bartender was more than helpful finding me a decent brew I could handle. By this time I'm starving. We ordered a large Barley Special (supreme). Despite the packed house the pizza arrived without mutch delay. It was nice looking, generously topped, and the crust was right. More beers, happy munching ensues . After being about to pop,we paid our tab,and the Bartender hears me say "I wish there was a good close place to shoot some pool ". He promptly tells me I'm in the right place, and sends us upstairs. Behold! Another bar. No kids here. This is where you can get a little loose in the right way. Another cool Bartender. Nice large Pool Tables. Things get a little fuzzy after that, lol. We drank, and laughed, talked about Barleys Ghost(it's allegedly haunted), and chatted with some younger local Hipsters. We didn't mind that they were, and they didn't mind that we werent. Everyone's accepted. In short,we shut em down. Stayed till close. I left with a warm glow, and a full belly. My only complaint is that I had such a glow,I left my left over pizza behind :( . Man!! That sure would a been good for breakfast. Thank you Barleys,...

I have been here multiple times and the food has been great and the live music was a nice touch; however, tonight was a little different. I went tonight for my birthday and was expecting a moderately large party (10 people), which I let them know about. We got seated quickly, everyone's orders were taken and everything was fine. After about 45 minutes, I noticed I was almost out of water and every time I would try to get my waitress's attention, she didn't see me or she was just not around for 15-20 min at a time. At first it was not a big deal because it was kinda busy and the music was kinda loud, but then it got to the point where another waitress noticed and stopped to help. Everyone was pretty much done with their food and after talking and visiting a bit, we realized we should probably get going. Same thing, every time we tried to get her attention she just kinda passed right over us and disappeared. After waiting like 20 more minutes my friend got up and told the host we had been waiting a while and we would like our tickets. He left to find someone I guess, but no one came to us for like 15 more minutes. Our original waitress was giving other checks to tables that had gotten there after us but overlooking our table. Finally after an hour of waiting for our check, she came and we told her how it was to be split. It was only like 4 checks so it shouldn't have been that complicated. She disappeared for like 10 min and came back to ask again how they were to be split. We reexplained and then she left for like 15 min. Finally we signed the checks and were able to leave after waiting so long to get our checks. Barley's is a good place to eat but this was a good...

The bar tender was fantastic, the beer selection was great. However, on a Friday night after ordering a pizza prior to them having a full house, we waited 45 minutes, 2 beers each, asked if we could move upstairs because the noise level had become to high for personal conversation at the bar. We paid our bill as it would not transfer upstairs? Then we moved, ordered another beer and our pizza was delivered. I attached photos of what was left. We were famished, ordered a pizza with half sundried tomatoes and banana peppers, the other half with meatballs and extra cheese. We also upgraded to a beer yeast pizza, sounds good right? This would have been great had it not been over cooked and some missing ingredients that had been added as an after thought. No extra cheese, banana peppers on about a quarter, sundried tomatoes covered almost a third, one piece of meatball, and ground beef covering another third, 2 pieces of pizza with no toppings at all! The cheese was broiled until it was tough, and the crust was difficult to bite through. We asked an employee if this was standard fare, their response was it looked really over cooked. We at as much as we could stand, being famished will cause you to do that especially when you have high Hope's and waited 45 minutes or more for food. Finished our beers and never saw another employee......... our tabs were paid, so we left....never to return! And to inform you all to stay away if you see any hint of them being busy. They dont care, and dont pay attention to you. Enter at...
