We arrived at Keepers Cabin on Tuesday, the day after Labor Day, scheduled for a nine night stay. The cabin is spacious and accommodating; the setting is beautiful. The comments below notwithstanding, we had a great time at this property! TurnKey’s (the management company) preparation and responses left a lot to be desired: • The deck outside the master bedroom was littered with leaves, sawdust, small branches and cobwebs. • The deck outside the dining room was better, but still had dirt, leaves and cobwebs. The BBQ grille’s grate was crusted, and the cover was just draped over the railing. There was a bucket half full of water just sitting there. • The light over the dining room table would not work. • The finish on most of the non-stick frying pans is scratched and gouged, making them unsafe to use. Many of the kitchen utensils were not particularly clean. The waffle iron had waffle debris on it; NOT stuck on, but was easily brushed off - but no one had done it. Two of the saucepans had food burned into the bottoms. We texted TurnKey about these discrepancies. They sent someone out the next day to clean up the decks. He could not get the DR light to work either, so he moved some light bulbs around to test them, and the light in the master bedroom went out. He said they would need to send an electrician (understandable), but no one ever showed. • We scraped the gunk off of the BBQ grill ourselves and used it for two meals, turning the propane off as soon as we were finished cooking. We turned the grill on to cook steaks on Saturday, but it ran out of propane before even heating up. The “spare” tank was also empty. We notified TurnKey, who said they would send someone out on Sunday … no one showed up. We sent a reminder on Sunday. They said they would send someone on Monday. FWIW - when the tanks were picked up on Monday, we were told that local businesses who swapped tanks (e.g., Ingles) “had not been restocked since Labor Day” and that the ones who could refill were closed on Sunday. No explanation as to how BOTH tanks were empty. • My daughter and her husband own a small business. My two grandsons are currently “attending” school remotely. ALL of them needed reliable high speed Internet access. The DSL WiFi was barely adequate for casual usage. They had to use a combination of our own phone HotSpots and JetPack. • Both trash bins inside the bear box were full. They obviously had not been emptied for a while. In addition, there was so much loose garbage inside the bear box that the bins barely fit inside. I reported this to TurnKey on Saturday, and the bins were emptied and the box cleaned out on Monday. • The ice maker in the freezer was full when we arrived. It never made ice again until the day before we left. YES, I checked it several times to ensure it was on. Frankly, we never bothered to inform TurnKey of this issue; we just bought a bag of ice. For the homeowner: • The kids loved jumping off the boathouse roof into the water! My only comment is that some of the screws on the jump off platform stick up, and need to be screwed in further. • There is one ladder and two sets of wood steps into the water. The wood steps are extremely slippery, and could use a handrail...
Read moreHouse was very nice as far as being a newer built house and having the latest fixtures I.E granite counters, wood flooring, contemporary design, almost to contemporary for my taste but still nice. Kitchen was very well stocked, even included some pie dishes to bake with.
We are rating the overall experience 3.5 stars mostly because of the disconnect between the kind customer service reps at turn key and the house itself.
We were told that more than likely an early check in would be available, and then we were told that it was not because a proper cleaning needed to be done. I'd like to give whatever cleaning company the benefit that they just didn't have enough time to clean it properly as this was one of our main complaints but then whats the point of making us wait to check in if the place wasn't cleaned properly anyway? So many places claiming they are doing extra cleaning because of Covid, when still only surface cleaning is being performed.
Very dirty floors our white socks turned black and hair in shower drain like they weren't cleaned at all. Dishwasher was broken and no way to repair it during our stay. Do you know how many dishes we had to clean by hand for a Thanksgiving feast and a family of four for four days? They also told us the fireplace did not work and not to use it but ours worked fine as they kept confusing our rental with the one across the street.
Our biggest complaint was the lack at most times of any water pressure at all. I understand how well systems work and that the pressure is not as good as a city system, but these things have to pass code based on the amount of rooms in the house and I don't understand how it ever passed code. We could not even wash a dish and have one person take a shower at the same time. This caused delays in our day as we had four people that needed to stagger their showers. I went a couple of days just not taking one as it was just to much hassle. Also forget about taking a bath in the huge worthless tub in the master bath unless you have three days to wait for the tub to fill.
We just had expectations for there to be no issue's at all as we were paying over 500.00 a night, I mean how much should someone have to pay for their expectations to be met or exceeded? It's a very nice house, but once again a disconnect between the house and the people that maintain it and the customer service team at Turnkey. Turnkey reps were very nice and never rude, but only apologized and said sorry there is nothing we can do. I would not recommend this rental unless your paying much, much...
Read moreStay AWAY! Unfortunately this was the worst stay I have ever had at a rental. And most of it was because of the management company.
We were very excited about this large property on the lake. When we go to the cabin though, we found some issue. There were a ton bugs in the second fridge that was in the patio, as well as the lights full of spider webs. The main door in the living room was jammed, and there were some minor wiring issues and one of the anchors in the dock was messed up. All over all minor issues. The main issue is the water was backed up, and ALL of the running water smelled like sewage. There was a mini outhouse in the yard that took care of the water on the property, something was clogged there and water overflowed into the yard. This was the source of the smell, and made the whole yard smell bad. This also kept us from being able to play the games we brought to the yard.
A maintenance man showed up to mow the yard and do landscaping while we were at the property. He was there almost the entire day. This was annoying, as it was essentially an uninvited guest to our rental. He fixed many of the water issues, but we weren't allowed to have running water during the day. He also cleaned out the outhouse and left a massive amount of junk in the yard. This was left overnight.
All of these are frustrating issues, but understandable. It can happen to any property. The real issues began when we contacted the property managers. We nicely told them about all of the issues, and they were a little helpful at first. Until we asked for compensation for our issues. After that, they said they couldnt help us because of a note we left at the property. It is possible this note was left by a previous guest, but after getting a copy of the note myself, I believe they forged this note to make us look bad. I was very upset after seeing this note and being blamed for it. I asked for them to have their supervisor reach out to me, and they declined. They also declined to work with us any further on these issues.
Turn Key is the name of the management company and I warn everyone who is renting . from them or hiring them to manage their property to stay away. Google reviews of turnkey, they do this to everyone!
In response to your reply to my review. This is untrue. The cleaning fee was refunded. That is not a significant portion. The thing that made me the most upset was the manager declining to reach out to me about the note that was...
