In theory, a service like this is great. When busy at work, this prevents having to leave to grab food and come back. However, in practice there seems to be a lot of disconnect between ordering online through the service and the order that the restaurant receives. I have used Takeout central four times from three different restaurants around Asheville with my coworkers and I have yet to receive any order correctly. And I don't mean petty stuff like the restaurant forgot a dipping sauce or sending a small drink instead of large. I'm talking about completely different meals being delivered such as having the hottest available chicken wings delivered when you ordered mild or a completely different sandwich arriving (two recent personal examples). The staff at takeout central are very friendly and they will work with you but when you're busy at work and you want a simple way of ordering food and having it delivered correctly, you shouldn't need to always have to call and complain and get money back or have something re-delivered. I can understand that things happen and mistakes occur but 4 times in a row is a trend. My coworkers love the service and swear by it which is why I am conflicted on leaving a negative review. The website is clear and ordering is very straight forward. There is nothing ambiguous or confusing about ordering online so when you order ABC and you always receive JKL, it makes me wonder how the process works. Like I said, the staff is very friendly and they've handled things but from my perspective after having these issues over and over, it's more convenient to go out yourself, place the order directly, and have the ability to check your food before you leave the restaurant. If it was just a recurring problem at one particular restaurant, there would be no issue because you just wouldn't order from that restaurant but again I have placed 4 orders from 3 different places. Read moreIt's a shame that my first order from Valet Gourmet is also my last. I placed my order with them over the phone after banging all over their website for a wasteful 15 minutes, or so. The woman, Spring, at Valet was incredibly helpful and walked me through my order--something was gimpy about my internet and kept popping malware with every keystroke which ended with me ordering a white pizza from Mellow Mushroom. The order was placed at 3:00 for a 6:30 delivery. The driver was exactly on time. We took the pizza inside and opened it to discover that the pizza we were looking at had meat on it, which is something we do not do. I called and spoke to a man who insisted multiple times that we received the pizza that we ordered. I, in turn, insisted that we did not. He was essentially calling me a liar. He finally put me on hold for a couple of minutes after going so far to tell me to call Mellow Mushroom, as the order problem was their fault and cited an infallible system at their point of the sale. He came back to the phone and admitted that their was a problem with their handling of the order and that they would have the correct pizza delivered to me and then very generously informed me that they wouldn't charge me an additional delivery fee. He then hung up on my in the middle of finishing my very cordial response to this issue.
I'm not one to pine about deserving something for my troubles, But a free delivery charge for me getting a steak infused pizza and then having to wait another hour for the correct order to get to my house is, frankly, no help at all and shows absolutely no interest in tempering a situation that was very clearly their fault.I wanted to like this experience, and Spring was excellent, but I will not waste again ordering from such a lazy and lackluster...

Take out central gets it right every time, and that’s because on the off occasion that there is a problem, they MAKE IT RIGHT, whatever that entails for the situation. They make it right with kindness, they are always genuinely empathetic. They get it; after long exhausting day at work, you come home and don’t feel like cooking and you order takeout and you really need it to be right. They just get how to do business and know how to retain their customers. I’ve compared them closely with another local delivery service and their prices are also better on the delivery fees AND the prices of the food. On one occasion a restaurant forgot my coke, and I ordered something that really deserved a coke. The delivery drive went out of his way to go to a near by store and bought me a single coke, and I had no idea he was doing this. He didn’t take a tip, even though I don’t think I had any cash; he just did it out of the kindness of his heart. He even commented, “a pizza serves a coke”.
