This was a very modern cute place! We ordered pho, kapoon, Hmong eggrolls, and papaya salad. We also ordered the house special fried rice to go. The staff was very kind and came around multiple times to refill our water and ask if we needed anything. The regular size pho bowl was probably the size of a typical small bowl of pho, had he known it would be a small bowl, he would've ordered the bigger one, unsure if it's the normal size around the area.. It was smaller than the kapoon bowl that I ordered. My husband definitely was not full after eating that. The kapoon was also very yummy, this is truly a comfort food and it reminded me of my mom's kapoon with lots of love. I was disappointed that I was not given any small plates to eat our eggrolls and papaya on. The papaya salad was DELICIOUS! We went back and talked about it to our friends. It's made lao style but, for the price, the portion was small, but it was very yummy. As for the eggrolls, please do better. I know it's a business, but don't say it's Hmong eggrolls when it's not up to standard. I appreciate that you use chicken, but it was just noodles and tasted like black pepper, and it was soggy and not crispy. I was travelling, so I can't compare to other restaurants in the area, but I will say give this place a try. Also, don't order the fried rice, there was no seasoning and for the price I would expect a little more taste, I wouldn't order that again either it was very bland.
Again, staff was very kind, and if I come through the city I would definitely come again and try other items on the menu.
One last thing to management, While we were in to eat our food minding our business, I can definitely hear the sisters in the back cooking food gossiping in Hmong and laughing away. Which is fine, do what you need to do, but I suggest talking at a quieter tone, be professional because you don't know who is sitting in the...
Read moreTasty food, fast, but DO NOT order anything âextra.â Extra noodles, extra veggies, extra bean sprouts, etc. They do NOT give you what you ordered but will charge you for it. Found this out after handful of times eating at Pho1 since the new owners re-opened.
First time my friend and I ate at the re opened restaurant, I ordered a large with extra noodles, she got a regular large. When served it looked like we got the same amount of noodles in our bowls. Previous owners, âextra noodlesâ meant twice the noodles, almost to many noodles! I didnât make a fuss about it even though I was still charged for the âextraâ noodles.
The next time we ordered to-go. Same orders, but now our orders are in individual to-go containers. Opened our containers, literally the same amount of noodles for both of us. Again charged for âextraâ noodles. This confirmed our thoughts the first time eating in the restaurant, that we both had the same amount of noodles despite my order for extra noodles.
I now know not to order extra noodles, or anything extra for that matter, but my friend forgot that with our latest to-go order and ordered extra bean sprouts. Opened our to-go containers, we both received the same amount of sprouts, she was still charged for the âextra.â My friend called and the lady wasnât the friendliest about it, saying âif you come back we will give you the $3 back, but I wouldnât.â
Yes the food still tastes good. Yes they slightly increased the prices and have definitely decreased portion sizes compared to the previous owners. Just be sure to save your money and do not order...
Read moreI had some poor experiences with the old owners who caused me to write it off, and I went here during their soft opening? once last week and had a terrible experience where I waited 30 minutes before just getting up and leaving after watching a table that came in after us get food before we ordered. They had just opened and it seemed like the staff were not prepared, but it was still extremely frustrating.
I went back the day of the last packer game this year and while they were busy, the service was much better - they checked in before the full group arrived and after, offered to refill water and drinks multiple times and were extremely friendly and on top of that the pad thai was probably the best I've had in town. The pho broth was really excellent, well seasoned and meaty in flavor and just about everything was great.
The hmong eggrolls had a strange taste that even the hmong folks with me agreed was "off" or weird. I don't know if they missed something or what - they didn't taste spoiled and didn't make me sick, but they tasted unusual and were not good. Other than that though, it was all pretty stellar and as long as the new owners get a solid service rotation going and make sure they are paying attention to tables (maybe don't have people seat themselves if losing track is something that happens a lot?) this will be an excellent place for some...
