General's Athens — Restaurant in Athens-Clarke County Unified Government

Anyone ranking this bar below 5 stars sounds like a real horrible time at a party or to spend a second of your time with point blank. Half the people leaving poor reviews have never set foot inside, whining just to whine, and are judging a book by its cover... if they did give it a chance they would see how awesome General's is. The staff are amazing and loving people who go above and beyond for patrons and each other. They give out lollipops and ring-pops, waters, peanuts are out to enjoy at your leisure, they'll even charge your phone. Management are great and caring people who serve Athens and this country well. I'm truly shocked that someone considers $2 wells on a Thursday night "expensive"... if you expect to pay less than that it sounds like you aren't qualified to be ranking any establishment anywhere. If you like Shania Twain and sweet tea give General's a chance because it is easily one of the most fun bars around. My husband and I walked by General Beauregard's this evening after the Wild Rumpus parade in downtown Athens. We were both in costume, and some patrons standing around the door of General's yelled offensive and homophobic comments at my husband as we walked past. The doorman stood by and said nothing, showing that this is an establishment where such hate speech is condoned. Been going to this bar for a while, only problem I've ever had is not being able to get an old fashion here because they don't have bitters. People say it's racist, redneck, or a bunch of "aggressive idiots" are clearly the kind of people to judge without spending some actual time there.
