NOT ALLERGY FRIENDLY
I went here for the first time for happy hour yesterday and ordered a bunch of hand rolls. I have a tree nut allergy and informed our waitress when she asked. I got a salmon hand roll from the happy hour menu, it was great! My friend ordered the same from the happy hour menu, ended up not wanting it because she was full, gave it to me, and turns out the chef made it as a dinner menu salmon temaki, which contains tree nuts clearly stated in the dinner menu, NOT the happy hour menu.
I took one bite and my tongue immediately started tingling. I asked the waitress and she said the chef was trying to be nice by upgrading the roll to the dinner menu one (i did not check if we were being charged the dinner menu price bc i swiftly had to pay the bill and gtfo of there). They apologized profusely, knocked the price of a couple hand rolls off my bill, and we were on our way.
In retrospect, they should have covered my entire bill, but again I had to quickly get out of there and get my hands on some benadryl asap so I wasn't thinking clearly. Such a shame because I enjoyed the handrolls I ate before the one with Walnut paste, hence the 3 stars.
Also, who puts TREE NUTS in Temaki smh. Bad idea. I'm all for experimenting with ingredients, but maybe not with common allergens and especially when someone doesn't order that. I also don't know of too many hand roll spots in ATL and I'm someone obsessed with Kazu nori in LA/NYC so had to try this place.
Sadly, I'm...
Read moreHaving tried thoroughly enjoyed our omakase experiences at Mujo and Hiyakawa we have been trying to find other similar experiences in Atlanta. I am happy to report that Brush's omakase did not disappoint. The service was outstanding. Both the servers and the chef spent generous amounts of time talking with us and making sure we had everything we needed/wanted.
We did the 16 course menu and it was the perfect amount a food and I would say it is a better value when compared to Mujo or Hiyakawa. I would say the atmosphere sits in between those two. Mujo having a very chill comfortable vibe and Hiyakawa being more like a museum and culinary course. At Brush you get a more chill vibe and can get as little or as much information you want to the meal. I would also say that Brush is much less overbearing on the rules than either Mujo and Hiyakawa which was very nice.
The quality of the fish and dishes were amazing. Brush has a unique rice and some unique presentations that the other places don't have. All things considered I think Brush my be the best overall place (accounting for price, comfort and experience).
The only draw back of the omakase experience for me is the the space in not an intimate as the other spots I have mentioned. You can definitely tell you are...
