A hidden gem inside Ponce City Market! If you are looking for delicious donuts, pastries and more look no further than Five Daughters Bakery. A little off the beaten path but well worth the visit.(they are tucked behind the king of pops) From a lovely design and cute packaging, you will have a distinct gift or treat for yourself or a friend or loved one. I was a fool and realized I should have taken more photos when I had more items but here's what I got. (all the photos are of the s'mores donut) s'mores donut - my wife absolutely loved this one. It's very rich, a darker chocolate rather than a milk chocolate. A nice choice giving a more bittersweet taste which doesn't get lost in the creamy sweet marshmallow. Not only does it have marshmallows on top but there is some sort of marshmallow cream inside the donut. It's delicious. Next I had the vegan pumpkin chocolate. This one I thought was ok . It was good don't get me wrong. I had wanted to try something a little different..felt like it was missing something to it. But hard to compare these donuts as they are for two sets of people. It was very moist and soft which was great! . Lastly I had a miniature cinnamon donut. This I think was my favorite. It was exactly what I was in the mood for at the time. I definitely plan on visiting again. I look forward to more delightful treats and experimenting with the variety of items. I don't think I mentioned it earlier but the staff was also great! Very friendly and gave me...
Read moreI had wanted to try this place after first hearing about it opening. This past weekend, I went and got 4 donuts. I thought they were just "okay." I got the Dough Knot, Malted PB Cup, Vanilla Cream and the Quinammon Roll. I hadn't really researched the place that much before I went and upon eating the donuts, I realized that they all tasted like croissants and not like regular yeast donuts. I like croissants, but had I known that the majority of their donuts are like this, I would have ordered differently.
That aside, the ones I tried were decent. My favorite was the Dough Knot, because I love cinnamon. The others weren't that special to me. The Malted PB Cup and the Vanilla Cream both had too much icing. When I first picked them up they felt very heavy and I ended up scraping off the majority of the icing. Also, I didn't really like the icing for either one and after you scrape off the icing, the actual donut itself doesn't taste that special.
Overall I thought they were okay. I went back to their menu and see that they do sell regular yeast donuts, that I might try. We spent $18 on only 4 donuts, I don't think that it was worth the price. I've had better donuts at...
Read moreFive Daughters is tucked away in a back corner, so it's a little hard to find if you're just walking down the main corridor of the Food Hall. We walked up and a young girl was sitting behind the counter staring attentively at her phone. We started looking at the display of doughnuts but she never acknowledged us. Finally, another couple walked up and said something to her and then she got up and walked over. They had a decent selection of doughtnuts, and I was eager to try all four of the Paleo versions, but they only had two, so I ended up with the Chocolate Raspberry and the Birthday Cake. Both were incredibly moist and tasty, but the Birthday Cake was my favorite. The Chocolate Raspberry is really rich and a little goes a long way. I also tried the "Purist" which is their take on a classic glazed doughnut. The dough is really yeasty, so I couldn't tell if it was supposed to have that texture, or if maybe it wasn't as fresh as it could have been. Regardless, prices are on the high side so be prepared. I believe we paid something like $5 per doughtnut! Overall very good, but I'm deducting one star for the employee who acted as if we were...
