One of the best parks in the area, hands down. The playground layout is great, with lots to do and plenty of shady spots to relax. It is also accessible. There are no regular swings or baby swings, but there are a few of those big flat swings that you can sit or lie down on.
The park has a bathroom, a splash pad AND a splash fountain (which is nice for those who don't enjoy water dumped on their heads and prefer to shoot up from the ground), an amphitheater, a skate park, and a huge pond with waterfalls and fountains. There's a sidewalk all the way around the water, with a couple of little lookout points. You can see big catfish, turtles, and ducks, and it's fun to try to spot them. The water also attracts some interesting birds. Above the amphitheater there is also a kind of...small rock garden? I am not sure exactly what it is, but it's nice to walk through, it has benches, and little kids seem to enjoy balancing along the smooth stones.
Also, the ice cream truck comes by sometimes! What more can you ask for?
Oh, but note: one time my friend got stung by a bee getting back in her car. So I guess we should all be vigilant about that, especially if you're allergic. It might have been a fluke—I don't see bees there every time we go or anything—but it did happen. You can park along the side of the park (which is probably where the bees are) or on the cross-street, which runs along nearby buildings and then between the playground and pond. If bees are a major concern, I would recommend choosing one of the spaces away from foliage, and keeping kids from messing with the flowers. (The entire park is beautifully landscaped, including the...
Read moreI don't know how I end up writing reviews for parks so often. Just the idea that I'm trying to sell the virtues of something that is completely free. Hey come to this park, there's sky and water and landscaping...guaranteed or your money back. BUT... H4W park is a GEM. Extending south from Ponce City Market at North Ave, the park is more narrow than a lot of greenways, but goes for blocks. It is in many ways like a tiny Central Park. At the top there are winding sidewalks on each side of a long strip of short grass, but past that is a sunken pond with fountains and willows and stonework and an amphitheater at the far end, and past that even further are more winding paths and hills with trees and a great kids splash park. I can kill way more time at the park than I can PCH, btw. And if you keep going past that theres even more sloping grass and benches and that is the actual end of this gorgeous little skinny park. BUT WAIT! Its actually just about 2 more short blocks through residential and you can jump on the MLK path that runs west to the MLK heritage site, or east and it loops back onto the beltline, so if you're tired of the beltline jump off at PCM and cruise H4W park south all the way to the east-west Path and rejoin the beltline close to the skatepark. TL;DR Cute, romantic, less crowded. Long and skinny. More...
Read moreThis park has become one of my favorite places to visit in Midtown. It’s located right next to the BeltLine, which makes it super easy to get to, but what I love most is how peaceful it feels. Even though it’s close to all the energy and movement of the city, once you’re inside the park, it’s calm, relaxing, and a perfect escape.
I usually come here for my runs. The paths are well-maintained, and there’s a good amount of open space, which makes running feel refreshing. Whether I’m just jogging or stretching after a workout, the atmosphere is always pleasant. It’s not too crowded, and the people around are usually friendly and respectful, which adds to the experience.
Another great thing about this spot is the surrounding area. There are tons of amazing coffee shops and restaurants just a short walk away. It’s perfect for grabbing a coffee after a run or meeting up with friends for a bite to eat. The neighborhood has a relaxed, welcoming vibe that perfectly matches the park itself.
If you’re looking for a spot in Midtown where you can enjoy nature, stay active, and still be close to everything, this park is definitely...
