Gritty McDuff's Brew Pub — Restaurant in Auburn

My adult daughter and.i arrived a little after 4 pm and were greeted promptly and sat on Hightop in bar area. We were.l informed our server was one of the two bartenders and would be with us shortly. Fifteen minutes later, I asked the bartender when we would get service, there were 4 people at the bar. She said it was change of shift, but our server would be with us shortly. Another 15 minutes later, 2 men arrived and sat at a table behind us. Immediately a server came over. At that point I turned around and asked when we would be attended to. She came right over and took our order. Drinks were provided 10 minutes later and our food 20 min later. I ordered a simple crispy chicken salad with Buffalo and side of blue cheese dressing NO ONIONS, well I got onions. She never returned to our table to offer more drinks or inquire about our food. We waited another 10 minutes amd finally went up to 3 servers chatting at the register (for most of time we.were there) asking for our tab. Paid it and left. I like to support our local establishments and I haven't been in the area for several years. Gritty s used to be a top spot! Very disappointed is an understatement. So be prepared to wait for drinks...

I travel to this area for business a lot and last time I was here (may) the service and food were great. I think I ate there 3 times that week. Today I go in and brought my wife. Telling her how great it was there. Well first of all we go in and it’s seat yourself. So you have people wondering around looking for a seat. Of course there were none. We cram in 3 chairs at the bar and no one talks to us for about 15 min. We finally get a drink and we see an open table so we tell the bartender we are moving. We go to the table and there’s a sign that says due to covid and short staff that that table is closed. Mind you it was the only table in the place that wasn’t being used. You’re telling me 1 table is going to make or break you? Now they did have a whole room that was closed due to staffing. I totally respect that but we are talking about one table in the room that was being used. We go back to the bar and again wait for about 15 minutes. Finally I just asked to pay for my drinks and we left. Very poor service. They should truly be embarrassed by what I saw there today. I can’t rate the food this time of course because as I said. Monday night and place looks fully staffed with a moderate level of patrons. I waited roughly 10 minutes to be greeted with a menu. Another 10 to 12 minutes went by before my drink order was taken. And again, another 10 minutes to get my beer. For a place that advertises as a "Pub", you would think the staff would get drinks in your hand immediately.

My beer, a stout brewed by Gritty's, tasted old/sour. Was barely drinkable.

Ordered French Onion soup and fried shrimp for my meal. Both came out at the same time. And the fried shrimp came out as fish nuggets. So they can't even get the order right. Soup was clearly from a mix, not homemade. Turns out the fish nuggets is what they offer as fish and chips. And these nuggets and frys were cold by the time I finished the soup. The fish was Haddock which gets chewy when cold. I tried to be nice and not make a fuss, but it was inedible. The waitress brought me some shrimp (like I originally ordered). They were at least hot, so I ate those.

Table was filthy, beer (the only one I had) was bad, wrong food brought out, timing of food coming out was wrong, service was poor....
