The location is prime and the outside setting is perfect. (Remember what I said about location) it could use a awning to keep the sun off you while ordering. The attendant at the window was extremely nice and accommodating. I ordered the curry chicken rice/beans w cabbage. When I open the plate to look at it, I knew I was in trouble, the curry chicken was brown..not yellow. The cabbage was(I hate to say this) was just boiled in h20. Which was perfect for me because I have hi blood pressure and the complete meal had not been seasoned. Beans and rice? It tasted pretty good. Being from Charlotte, I don't like spicy food, but I had to add hot sauce to the chicken, because no kick whatsoever was present. Well cooked however. On their behalf, the restaurant caters to....... them folks. The store is downtown and we all know their food is bland. But that's where the money is so I don't blame them. Forget keeping it authentic...get that money. Capitalism at it's best. Would I go again? absolutely. You just don't give up on a place because of one meal. I look forward to my next meal. Thanks...
Read moreI enjoyed the vibe. The interior decoration was cozy, and there's cute outdoor seating. The music wasn't too loud (a pet peeve of mine lol), but it still added to the ✨ambiance✨ Service was great! The hostess was kind :) Oh, and they have a section of vegan dishes 🤙
I enjoyed the food too. I got the curry chicken with fried plantains and red beans & rice. The chicken was SO juicy and tender...just fell right off bone. It's been a while since I've enjoyed chicken like that. The curry sauce was yummy, had a warmth to it, but it wasn't heavy. The fried plantains were interesting. I'm used to them being caramelized. These were dry, but they were coated in a sweet and salty seasoning and reminded me of fries. I dipped them in a sweet sauce my mom got with her fish. Now THAT sauce was delicious. The rice and beans were okay. The texture was nice, but I was hoping for more flavor. Still, overall a fun experience. I'd go...
Read moreThere is no way this place should be called a Caribbean or Island restaurant. The chef at this establishment needs better training in how Caribbean/Island food tastes & should be made. I don't mind paying $15 for a misley plate of oxtail, but if you're going to charge me that much then you better make it tasty. If you charge $15 for this small portion (see pic) what portion do you serve for lunch? The Jerk chicken is nothing to write home about either. My advise is for the owner to stick with soul food and remove all reference to Island or Caribbean vibe. The only good thing I tried today is the spice rice served with Jerk chicken.
Fyi - the side dish (rice...
