This is a great venue for anything kind of entertainment event anyone could think of. The renovations to the building are remarkable. For the building to be lying vacant for over 30 years, it’s like this place was never closed.
There is so much rich Georgia history surrounding this place, the founder, previous owners, and current owners. I remember being a small kid and hear my mother tell us about her visits to the Miller, mostly for movies with my dad. She also never leaves out the part about her falling down a whole flight of stairs and how embarrassing it was.
Fast forward years later when I became an adult when I would venture out downtown, I would normally pass the Miller Theatre. I passed it several times, a lot of the times. I would stop and just staring into the empty skeleton of the building and thinking to myself, “Why don’t Augusta finally renovate this place and open it again?” And the powers that be did just that.
I love how they tried to keep the place as close to the original as possible. It’s like stepping into a time warp walking into the building, the lobby, and into the theatre itself. The time warp comment isn’t a dig at all because this building is still beautiful!!!
The Miller hasn’t been open long and they are booking major events already. I wanted to go to the Miki Howard concert here for Valentine’s Day this year, but it was another artist’s concert that same night and I chose to go to the latter.
I was recently here for the R&B Groove Fest with Midnight Star and The Whispers. Midnight Star being one of my all time favorite bands I had to be in attendance!!! The show was amazing and the house was PACKED!!! I’m so glad the Miller is back to the swing of things and conducting great entertainment again!!! I can’t wait to see what other big acts that have in line to grace the stage of...
Read moreIt's a beautiful facilty, the renovation is spectacular, but the entire show was marred by untrained staff. We picked up our tickets at will call; gave them my name and was prepped to show ID... but instead he tossed my tickets through the window and went back to his conversation; clearly I was intruding on his personal time. I bought "best available" and they turned out to be box seats. Pretty cool.
Inside we asked an usher to show us where to go. They didn't know. They asked another, who also didn't know. The third person showed us the box seats... I'm used to box seats being on the sides if the theater, or maybe balcony level, I was not expecting to sit in the back of the theater in swivel chairs. Granted, they were comfortable, but we could barely see over the railing and if people had been in front of us we could not have seen at all.
Being in the rear of the theater meant that during the performance we could hear every conversation the ushers had, and boy did they converse. With customers, with each other, with security. When they weren't talking they were ignoring the audience.
Part way through the show someone did sit in front of me. No biggie, I shifted and I could see. Except... Then he tried to make a phone call. It wouldn't connect so he tried again. And again. And again... Maggie must have 20 missed calls from this guy. Ushers ten feet away and this dude's phone screen is lighting up repeatedly in front of me. We had to get up and ask an usher to do their job and shut that down. I legitimately thought about leaving and asking for a refund.
I paid for box seats and instead got a back row, phone calls, and constant conversation.
Beautiful theater, but they have a big hill to climb to get the...
Read moreIt was the first time my husband and I have been to this Auditorium. We went to see Boz Scaggs June 8th .Friday. We are big fans and saw him in Charlotte two years ago. We were very impressed with the decor and the entire Auditorium. Our seats were great. The staff was friendly and helpful. The place was full House. The crowd was very loud but it did not bother me until the concert started. The noise didn’t stop . Behind us in the back box seats, they were loud , laughing , talking , and using a bright light to record. It was so distracting. It is one thing to clap and acknowledge the song but I think some didn’t even know what song was being played. Several people turned around in hopes of shaming them to stop. As many staff as I saw before concert , you would think some would monitor and stop this. I’m sure the people had too much to drink. I have never been to a concert were so many people were up and down and going to get drinks and to bathroom. It reminded me of a high school talent show with all these distractions. Not one time did I see staff intervene. We payed too much for our tickets to have it ruined. We had a hard time enjoying and hearing the artist sing . It was like a bar with the noise. Although it is closer for us to go to Augusta , I had rather go to Columbia, Greenville, Charlotte. Etc. In Charlotte , once the concert started the doors were closed . I didn’t see people up and down. Staff stopped any video or distracting cameras . No flashes were allowed. People was loud only with clapping after a song. I sure hope you take care of issues such as these. Your nice facility is no longer an...
