I just wanted to take a few minutes and share a pretty discouraging story that my family, my students, and I went through tonight at our local Freddy’s.
Tonight, we took our son and a group of my old students over to Freddy‘s to grab some dinner. We ordered two kids hotdog meals. When my wife went to pick them up from the counter, they had mistakenly put together two kids hamburger meals. When my wife brought this to their attention, Haley, the manager on duty, immediately demanded that my wife needed to provide a receipt to prove that there was a mistake. There was no apology or any kind of explanation. It was inappropriate, demanding, and accusatory. (Ironically, the hot dog meals are actually cheaper than a hamburger meal.)
When Haley brought out the food, she simply threw down the platters and told my wife that the meals have been replaced. Again, there was no apology or attempt to make things even remotely positive regarding this situation. She went on to explain that if these meals had been more expensive, she would have needed to charge us. However, she made it clear that she was doing us a favor.
When I told my wife that we needed to go up and talk to her and possibly another manager, my wife hung her head and told me that things probably were not going to get any better. Furthermore, she told me nothing good was probably going to come out of the situation. I refused to let this go, and I decided that I would speak with Haley. However, my wife was right; nothing good came out of this.
When I approached the counter to ask for the manager, another manager, Christine Daws, came out to tell me that Haley was on break. I tried to explain to Ms. Daws what had happened, but she cut me off at almost every sentence. She went on to tell me that the only reason the receipt was required was because I could not imagine how many crazy customers they come into contact with every day. This was their way of protecting their assets, according to her.
When I tried to further explain how race might tie into this, and that as a father of a biracial family, there was definitely a question in my mind, I was met with- “Well isn’t that great that you are a father of a biracial family.”
She went on to look in her kitchen and explain that they had a very diverse staff. Ironically, I think she missed the point that, even with a diverse staff, her racial biases were completely transparent.
At that point, I asked her for the corporate number. She told me that maybe I would be happy with free food coupons. What is funny here is that we paid for our food. We were not looking for a free handout, we were merely trying to share how our experience was not pleasant.
She returned with her business card and bragged about how important she was and why she had business cards. She went on to tell me that I should call a gentleman who is local and did not give me the corporate number as I had asked. She attempted to give me some free food coupons which my family and I left with her for other patrons. The minute we left the restaurant, we saw a Haley emerge from the back, and at that point, we chose to go home.
The reason why I am writing this is because I will clearly no longer be patronizing Freddy’s restaurant. More importantly, I would hope that the corporate office would read this and help their managers understand how to truly listen to their customers and respond with a sense of understanding rather than just listening to respond. I was not looking for free coupons; I was looking for someone to listen and understand why we did not have a pleasant experience so that this may not happen in the future. Right now, I am left with more questions than answers. It makes me sad to understand why my wife felt the way that she did because this is something she has experienced all her life. As a white male, I have never had to think about situations with such a racial lens. When I see my wife defeated, it makes...
Read moreI'm a big Freddy's fan one of my favorite burger spots, my wife and I have a running argument if which is better Freddy's or Culvers. I dine at Freddy's regularly at different locations. However this Freddy's at the Arapahoe Crossings is by far the worst. Whoever runs this place definitely needs more training. I went through drive through, ordered the prime rib steak burger combo, with cheese curds and a large iced tea. The young lady at the drive through said you have to have fries we are out of cheese curds (the curds are my favorite so that was very disappointing, the manager clearly doesn't know how to properly order their food supply) Ok give me fries I guess. Would you like any sauce, yes give me the smoky sauce. No I can't give you smoky sauce we are all out. (Again manager doesn't pay attention and doesn't know how to order their supplies, how do you run out of the condiments) Ok, give me spicy, she says you got it. The food came out quick, which is usually a positive, but not when the food is cold. The fries had no warmth to them at all, they had visibly been cooked but obviously they had been sitting for a long while. The prime rib steak burger was also cold, and besides being cold it didn't have the prime rib. So it was just a double burger with the toppings as the prime rib. The young lady taking the order had no problem telling me they were out of curds, out of smoky sauce but couldn't tell me they were out of the prime rib? got charged for the prime rib, paid $16 for a cold meal that was not even prepared right. This location is the same reason why my wife chooses Culvers over Freddys, they are always out of something, whether it's curds, smoky sauce, cheese sauce for the fries, one time they were out of hot dogs. I have to agree with her, I will choose Culvers over the Freddys at Arapahoe Crossing everyday from now on. I have never had issues with any other location, but definitely will not be returning my business...
Read moreChanging my original review from a 5, 5 years ago to a 1 after our experience tonight. SO disappointing. I would have given a zero star if possible. We sat in the drive-thru window for 25+ minutes. We were told our total was $19.20 for 2 kids meals that were supposed to be $6.79 each. We asked about the total and they had rang the wrong thing in. They had to redo our order at the window. They had to take the order 3 times before getting it right. They then gave us the wrong drink. We FINALLY got our food from the gentleman at the window who LITERALLY had an INCH of snot hanging/dripping from his nose. Made our whole meal unappetizing. We drove around the building to check our meal and found 1 burger was missing cheese on it. The other burger was literally cold to touch, fries were cold and fry container was only filled 1/2 way up. We had to go BACK inside to get these things fixed. It was VERY frustrating after waiting 30 min at this point. The manager was super wonderful and helpful. She apologized and got the things remade quickly for us. She was really good and said she was going to move that guy from the drive-thru window. Overall it was a terrible experience and I will be advising friends and family not to go to this restaurant. I wouldn't be surprised if people get sick from the food not being at temperature and unsanitary practices by the staff. What was supposed to be a treat night out for my daughter and I turned into a huge disappointment...
