I hang out in this neighborhood a lot and found out about the brand new Mexican spot last night. They've only been open for about a week. Their bar isn't even set up yet. To anybody who is curious, we were told 2 weeks. It was their hostess' first night on the job. She ended up mixing up my to go order and my friend's to go order... lol. Not too mad about it and letting it slide due to it being a brand new place with brand new staff.
The menu is pretty huge. There are a lot of options. I ended up with a small combo of tamales smothered in green chili, rice and beans. I also got a side of chips and salsa. The salsa was OK and could have used more salt or lime. The rice and beans were really dry and kind of bland, but edible. The tamales and green chili were a solid A-OK, but nothing super impressive.
Overall, it's not terrible, but it's not outstanding. I will certainly give it another shot, mainly because I am sick of Subway and the Indian place across the street is awful. My friends and I are also excited for the bar to open since it's walking distance to where we hang out. I'm hoping the bland, under seasoned food will work its way out of this place and it will become something really special.
I snapped pictures of the menu, but the red and white text was hard to read in person, let alone in a photo. Sorry guys, I gave it a shot to try and help out the...
Read moreI have been on a hunt for near a decade for good Mexican food, but alas my search continues elsewhere.
My wife and I dined here last night and the experience was about as middle-of-the-road as they come.
+The server was pleasant and efficient, never letting us think we were forgotten or neglected. But.... The food was lackluster and overall unspectacular. It arrived lukewarm to the table and nearly everything tasted as though it had come from a can, he exception to this being the beef tamales, which were decent if a little bland. I've had worse, but I was looking for better. Indeed, I admit to cringing every time I see ground beef on the menu. The menu is also very large with many things not described at all or described using the same words as the description. (It would be like me trying to sell gorblach by describing it as fresh gorblach with cheese and rice. Not helpful.) From a back-of-the-house perspective, it is very difficult to have that large of a menu and guarantee that everything on it is fresh. The bar has yet to be set up due to liquor license issues, which admittedly can be a hassle to acquire.
I would go back by myself if I were in the shopping center for a meal, if only to give them a second chance (and to try the horchata) before making a firm decision, but it currently does not rate high enough to encourage another night out...
Read moreHave seen the Opening Soon sign for a while and now that it has been open for a few weeks, decided to give it a try. As soon as I walked in the door, I was assaulted by the most awful smell. Thinking it might be from the restrooms which are right inside the door, I let them escort me to a table. Thankfully, I was at the far end of the room from the door. Even there the smell was bad.
As this has been several other restaurants in the past and it should not have taken a lot to get it up and running, I was surprised at the total lack of decor. Very vanilla. Considering it was dinner time and this is a new place, there were only about 6 other people in the place. All the staff was sitting at the bar eating.
I looked a the menu and have no idea what most of the items were. There were very few descriptions and since I don't speak Spanish, I have no idea what I was looking at. Didn't matter, the smell was still so over powering, I could not imagine eating there so I left without ordering anything.
If I could give less than 1 star I would. Can't imagine a reason I...
