Mea culpa! I should have reviewed this charming Italian gelato store called Dolce Neve (sweet ice) a long time ago. I haven't been to this family-owned business for a few years and always appreciated their frozen concoctions. I went back today with a good friend of mine after cinema and was delighted to taste their sweet creations. You should know that all their gelato flavors are made in-house, literally in front of you. I had their dark chocolate with candied orange chunks and creamy macha tea flavor gelato. My friend had the roasted hazelnut and coffee gelato. Both hers and mine were just sweet enough but not too sweet, good strong flavors but not overwhelming, and especially a luscious creamy texture, not the fluffy stuff you may get at other commercial places. Two smiling young ladies were happy to help us. By the way, they also serve real Espresso coffee and other drinks (hot and cold). You are literally sitting in the extension of their kitchen at small, charming wooden tables (there is also some seating outside). As you can see in one of my pictures, that big machine you there is a real Italian ice cream churning machine, the kind you can only find in Italy these days. I know, I used to own one when I owned my own French Cafe in Austin a few years ago. I can't recommend this place enough if you want to treat your children, your sweetheart and yourselves (of course) to a short and sweet escape to real Italian delights. Buon appetito! This is an update on my YouTube review of them over seven years later! Parking still sucks. Not much you can do about that. Customer service crew here is legit Italian and everything is high quality, especially with coffee combos! 70% chocalate is the best in all of town and will melt any coffee chocalate lover like me with a sweet tooth! Plenty of seating inside and outside at their old fashioned wooden tables and chairs which just adds to the legit Italian new age music ambiance and peace in this rare little spot of South 1st st! :) Nice and quiet. Also super small but always clean one stall restroom for both men and women. They also do gelato sandwichs, ice cream smoothered in the 70% legit Italian chocolate fresh on the spot daily. They also do lots of Pistachio spread and Hazelnut spread combos with your ice cream or coffee to appeal to that alrare hard to find taste palate ;) Again be careful coming north up south 1st st to turn in and park towards back which has falling apart pavement and dirt parking. They have no control over this and I pray the land Lord would fix but not holding my breath Limited parking at the front. Could park off Annie's and walk over which many do to get here and totally worth it! Yes, you can sample their 12 core Italian flavors, but none beat the legit chocolate especially in Affogato form! (Gelato of your choice with espresso / coffee) They also do a phenomenal hot chocolate and pints and quarts of their gelato to go!

You’re worth melting for 🍦🍨 Highlights: •Rotating Flavors •Locally Sourced Ingredients •Homemade Waffle Cones Review: This is my go to gelato spot that never misses and always satisfies my sweet tooth. I ordered a Waffle Cone with 3 scoops, the flavors I chose were Stracciatella, Organic Coffee and Pineapple Sorbet. The Organic Coffee flavor was bold, smoky, semi sweet, slightly bitter, rich and would satisfy any coffee enthusiast. The Stracciatella was creamy, sweet, light, with added richness from the slivers of chocolate plus amazing contrasting texture. Finally the highlight of the day was the Pineapple sorbet which was semi sweet, fruity, refreshing, with notes of acidity and freshness. Can’t wait to try all of their rotating and seasonal flavors of Gelato. Rating: 10/10 Waffle cone with 3 Scoops- Stracciatella(bottom), Organic Coffee(middle) and Pineapple Sorbet(Top).

I'm in love with this place. For the last few years, Lick has been my go to for a sweet treat in Austin, but Dolce Neve is seriously giving it a run for its money. In actuality, they really don't compare because they're so different, but it seriously made me question everything. So I'm no gelato expert, but this to me seems like the real deal. The first couple of times I was in, I was cashed out by what I thought to be a legitimate Italian (possibly the owner?) and so maybe that added to its credibility. And even if it's not authentic, it doesn't even matter because whatever it is, it's exceedingly delicious.

My absolute favorite thing they have is their pistachio flavor, just plain regular pistachio. It's hands down the best pistachio flavored anything I've ever had and probably one of the best things I've ever tasted in any category. I used to get two flavors in one cup for variety but I always found myself eating the other one first and saving the pistachio for last, and then I was sad when it was over. So next time I'm going 100% all pistachio. I'm excited just thinking about it.

Ok, but if pistachio isn't your thing (although should that be the case, this might change your mind), they have so many other terrific options, including gelato sandwiches and other handheld fare that all look really good. It can get crowded in the evenings with a line out the door, but I feel like it moves fairly quickly. Parking can be scarce but there are neighborhood streets nearby. So basically, there are no excuses not to go to this little gem! It's a perfect south...
