I have to update my previously glowing review. The last two times I came in to try their CroBrio, aka Cronut, it was not good. I don't know what happened, but it tastes totally wrong now, and not anything like a cronut. The inside was super soft, the dough was tasteless and again barely any custard. Cronuts should be slightly crispy or flaky on the inside. The entire concept was a donut with the texture of a croissant, and when done right, they taste amazing. The first time really was amazing, but the last two, not so much. This was over the course of a couple weeks. Maybe they have a problem with consistency or something, or this was a new baker. I don't know, but, I'm not interested in trying these again. oh well.... I guess the hunt continues for cronuts in Austin. Luckily, they have some other items which taste consistently good like their caramel éclair. I've had these a couple times and they have been amazing every time. I also found a new item which I also like. Their Raspberry Rose Lychee Ispahan. An Ispahan is kind of like a giant macaron, which they also have a selection of incidentally. -- original review: One morning I woke up and had an intense craving for a cronut. Cronuts are like a cross between a donut and a croissant, with a custard filling in the middle. Did Austin even have cronuts? I did an search and here we are... They can't call them cronuts since the name is probably trademarked, as is kronuts, so they call them CroBrio instead. Which is weird, since I'm not even sure what that stands for, but I'm sure it sounded great when they thought it up. Whatever they call them, they were awesome! And exactly what I needed to fulfill my urgent medical cronut need. As an added plus, this location looks super snug and cute with an laid back outdoor patio, and local neighborhood vibe.

I love flaky pastries and a cup of coffee with a good book (who doesn't) and I can't believe I never knew about this place. I ordered the night before for pickup in the morning which ultimately didn't seem to make a difference since I had to wait for my coffee to be made and the pastries to be bagged. That's understandable as I don't want luke warm coffee but I'll place my order in person in the future. I ordered a latte w/coconut milk and a hazelnut additive and it was delicious! I usually have a bitter cold brew in the mornings so this was a nice sweet treat. Unfortunately, I accidentally dropped my coffee cup while I was exiting my car at home but c'est la vie 😭 The Millefeuille was wonderfully flaky and had a carmelized taste that I enjoyed. This one is definitely a repeat for me. The Seasonal Peppermint Eclair was inedible for me. The peppermint flavored chocolate in the middle was overpowering and unpalatable. My lips were tingling from the peppermint oil afterwards but on the plus side, my breath was freeeesh. The Opera cake seemed at first glance to be dry but I saw other reviews and allowed it to come to room temperature before enjoying it later that day. As I hope the photos show, the sponge was moist and crumbly. The level of coffee flavor was perfect for me but the chocolate was a too thick for my liking. Due to the slightly stale quality of the eclair and the opera cake, I can't give 5 stars but I will continue to patronage La Patisserie and adjust my review as needed. Edit: Bumping up to 5 stars because those macarons are DELICIOUS! WOW.

I drove from Kyle to get a fresh pastry because of all the good reviews. Well, my experience was less than satisfying. My husband and I chose the Almond croissant, that little chocolate thing ($5.25) and since I have never had a macaroon, I asked for one of those. The croissant looked right but was dry, bready not flakey and actually stale tasting. I thought they baked fresh daily because I had read that they discount the last hour and selection runs sparse. That little chocolate thing was a pricey bite of bland tasting goo with the mouthfeel of cornstarch. The best bite was the macaroon but it wasn’t what I expected. It was like a bite of cake with a dab of frosting in the middle but at least it was edible. I was expecting a crispy shell like crust, maybe a soft chewy (cookie like?) center and a flavorful filling. I had read that they are made with egg white, ground almonds and powdered sugar so I imagined a different experience. Those 3 items were not worth the trip or the $12.30 price tag. Our table by the front window was so rickety that we didn’t dare order drinks. We had to ask for silverware and I got a paper towel from the bathroom because there was no napkins offered to us. The place is quaint but far from comfortable and what we had was nothing special.

I hate having to leave a bad review. Usually I take my time to leave positive reviews. Unfortunately, mine and my father's experience left such a bad taste in our mouths, I have to share.

  1. Called ahead to see if the bakery makes baguettes--no answer. No problem, we're heading home and it's on the way.
  2. Literally 4 minutes later we're there. Nice parking. Not one customer. No problem. Maybe they had gloves on and were doing pastry prep when we called??
  3. As soon as dad and I walk in the door one of the two employees sees us and walks into the back of the store. Again, ZERO customers.
  4. As she is walking away no greeting or welcome, I start inquiring, "Do y'all have bread/baguettes?" Employee number two is prepping something. He does not acknowledge our presence or the fact that I have just spoken. At all. Not even a flinch.
  5. I say again (in a very friendly tone), "Hello. Do you all make baguettes?" Again, employee number two COMPLETELY ignores that another human being has spoken.

The second time I asked, employee number one comes round the corner and acknowledges us.

We were going to buy some sandwiches. When she finally responded that they don't have bread or baguettes I then asked my father if he wanted to check out their menu for sandwiches. He was so completely offended by interaction (or lack thereof) that he replied, "No," about faced, and walked right out.

Now, I don't know if the guy behind the counter was having a bad day. Maybe he doesn't speak English. Maybe he's hearing impaired (I was in his peripheral vision). Perhaps we weren't dressed fancily enough... I'm not really sure. But to not even acknowledge that another human (let alone a customer) is speaking to you is so absolutely rude, I don't have words I can use in a Google review for how that makes me feel.

Needless to say, this isn't a review of their food, as we didn't...
