I have to start with a disclaimer, anytime I try a new pizza place the bar is higher. I love pizza, it's my last meal, the one thing I can eat everyday, I love all kinds, every kind. So let's do this. Dovetail Pizza they have an amazing location on South Lamar, it's a quaint older building with unique decor, it almost seems like it was a different restaurant before. I did tried their Paloma cocktail and my love had a glass of red wine. They do have a full bar and a decent wine list it's simple and to the point. I do appreciate their menu, as they offer pasta, salad, and an array of appetizers. We ordered the calamari which to be honest didn't have enough calamari there was fried lemons, artichoke hearts, and maybe onions it was hard to tell, but it was delicious just needed more calamari into the mix. Also I think they were using a ranch to dip I think it would be better with a lemon based aoli. They also have the Caesar salad which is quite delicious there are fresh mushrooms and these really thinly sliced croutons which are absolutely delicious Bravo to the Caesar it's a good take. One of the kids order the spaghetti and meatball and it's a giant meatball. We have to assume it was delicious as she didn't leave anything on her plate so it must have been really Good. OK let's get into the pizza. I think the crust is good, very simple clean crust, chewy with a little bit of crunch on the outside, the sauce didn't overpower, and the cheese is good quality. To be honest I think the cheese pizza was the best. We ordered a pepperoni with half cheese so we could try more than one and then the meat pizza which has a number of different meats. They make football shaped or oval shaped pizzas that they cut along the width side so they look like they're really long skinny pieces, it's quite fun and the kids mentioned it reminded them of school parties when the pizzas come out cut into long strips. The meat pizza was good but honestly there's so much meat and I think what happens is when you cook the meat this way they tend to sweat and it steams so you get a little bit different texture and it come a little chewy. Overall the service was great, the atmosphere was fun, and the food is good I do recommend you come out and try it. I look forward to trying some of their other pieces and building one of our own. Tonight was especially fun as my love and I had our kids with us, we were all talkative and energetic, kids were engaging and enjoying all the things, having fun, seeing smiles. I really just didn't want the night to end hoping it would last forever. Heres to forever and may it come sooner than...
Read moreWe went to Dovetail for dinner tonight. The food was pretty good. Fried olives are great, gnocchi was 6.5/10, pizza 7.5/10. Wine list could definitely use an overhaul. But the issue was that their AC was not working and it was over 100 today. This made for an extremely uncomfortable experience. Did the manager come to explain, apologize and thank us for bearing with them… no. Did the waitress… no. I finally mentioned it to her and she said, “Oh yeah, I meant to let you know our AC has been out and we just got it fixed, but it hasn't cooled down yet.” And that was it. I wasn’t looking for a handout but in a city with lots of good pizza at least try to make a bad experience tolerable and not just expect your guests paying over $200 for pizza… and wine to just deal with it. Probably won’t go back. As understanding as I am about how difficult it is to make it in the biz there are definitely things you can do to make a bad experience a little better. They probably should have closed due to the heat and AC issue.
Update! Went again and still super uncomfortably hot. The staff was sweating through their shirts. Also, ordered the olives and instead of hot honey there was a brown goop on them… looked like they subbed something for the honey as maybe they ran out. This isn’t the first time I’ve had a weird sub on a menu item there… just let the customer know instead of having them point it out and acting like no one knows what’s going on. As much as I like the pizza going to have to pass on...
Read moreOn our second visit to Dovetail Pizza, we knew exactly what we were coming back for—the Prime Rib Pizza. And once again, it did not disappoint! The crust was perfectly crisp, the prime rib was incredibly tender, and the flavors were just spot on.
We also ordered the Wedge Salad, which was fresh and had the perfect balance of crisp lettuce and creamy dressing. The Corn Fried Calamari was a standout appetizer—light, crispy, with greens, making it a unique take on a classic dish. The Fried Shrimp Alfredo was rich and flavorful, with a perfectly creamy sauce that wasn’t too heavy.
Dovetail Pizza continues to impress, and after this second visit, we’re sure it won’t be our last!
Dovetail Pizza impresses with its well-rounded menu, especially with the Wedge Salad, Pesto Chicken Macaroni, and Prime Rib Pizza. The Wedge Salad, with its crisp iceberg lettuce, smoky bacon, and tangy blue cheese dressing, offers a refreshing start to the meal. The Pesto Chicken Macaroni combines perfectly cooked pasta with a rich, herbaceous pesto sauce and tender chicken, delivering both comfort and flavor. The Prime Rib Pizza is the star, featuring succulent slices of prime rib and perfectly baked crust. Each dish offers a satisfying blend of flavors, making Dovetail Pizza a must-visit for...
