LATE NIGHT DONUT REVIEW:
HOLY DOUGHNUT GLUTTONY! I don't eat donuts often but I may have had an out of body experience while eating my donut here. If not "out of body", my eyes at least rolled to the back of my head.
Came here with some friends later in the night after a night out on the town and we needed something to fill out stomachs. Look no further than Gourdough's. This is a single food truck (actually an Airstream) in a random parking lot on S. 1st street so you gotta' keep your eyes peeled for it.
They have an extensive menu of donuts that put me in choice overload. When I went to order, I gave the worker three options of what I would like and without hesitation, they told me to get the appropriately-named Fat Elvis (BIG donut with peanut butter icing, grilled bananas, honey, and bacon). Holy Schnikeys, the picture doesn't do it justice (the lighting wasn't great) but this thing was the bomb. The donut is HUGE (2 people can easily split it an be happy) and warm and the bananas were great (I mean, cooked bananas on anything will be great). I'm not a huge bacon fan so I could have done without it but for bacon lovers, this will hit the spot.
It did take maybe 15 minutes for them to make the donuts which shows how fresh they are so don't be in a rush when you get here!
In the evening, they were bumping some good music, even better than the bars we were at, so that added to the great vibes of the place.
Still working off the donut at the gym but it's worth it. Will definitely be back to try some...
Read moreAfter several attempts to align my schedule with Gourdough's unconventional hours, I finally managed to experience what can only be described as a donut lover's paradise. Tucked away in a charming airstream, this food truck is not your typical grab-and-go donut shop. With an inviting array of outdoor seating and a selfie-friendly ambiance, Gourdough's offers a delightful setting that enhances the overall experience.
The donuts here are not just treats; they're masterpieces. Made fresh to order, the anticipation builds as you wait for your personal donut to be crafted. And let me tell you, the wait pays off. The donuts arrive warm, a testament to their freshness, and are nothing short of decadent and delicious. The flavors are abundant, each bite a testament to the culinary creativity that Gourdough's prides itself on.
Yes, the price point is on the higher side, with each donut running about $9. But considering the quality and size – my child and I split the Blackout donut and still had leftovers – it's an indulgence that's worth every penny. If you're seeking a sugar rush of excellence and an exceptional experience, Gourdough's delivers in spades.
While the hours may not cater to the early bird seeking a dawn donut fix, if you can make the trip, your taste buds will be rewarded with warmth, flavor, and a memorable experience that goes beyond the norm. Gourdough's is more than a donut shop; it's a culinary event that's worth every cent and every minute spent waiting for that first,...
Read moreLadies and gentlemen, I am reporting to you, on National Donut Day (Also National Doughnut Day) from the trenches at Gordough's Donuts in the delicious city of Austin, Texas.
I'm generally a fan of all doughnuts. I like the basic ones. I like the specialty ones you can get at the chain in downtown. The donuts at Gordough's are a step above all of these and among the best we've had in the world.
We had the "Fat Elvis" as we knew we were only going to be able to try so much and wanted something with icing and were intrigued by the peanut butter flavor. We got it without bacon which our order taker said was basically a crime, but we're vegetarians so that was a crime we were willing to commit. It really was fantastic...HUGE too.
We also tried what I think was the Naughty and Nice Donut...more basic in flavor with cinnamon and sugar – the one they say "started it all" for Gordoughs...again, a huge step up from the already pretty good but basic donuts you can get elsewhere.
We're so glad we made a point of stopping at Gordough's on our brief visit to Austin. The treats here were unique and basically not something you can get anywhere else.
It's all outside seating...although there was a line and people waiting our order came out pretty quickly. (Oh yeah, every single donut is made to order!)
This is another one of this "If we lived near here it would be all over..." kind of establishments.
We salute...
