Came for Saturday brunch yesterday with friends. We ended up deciding to order to go, as there weren't many seats available. While waiting on our food, I saw some mimosa flights coming from the bar. I didn't see a drink menu when I initially put in my order.
The food was good, the reduction in rating is based on the overall vibe and the passive aggressive bartender.
While we were waiting I asked the bartender what kinds of mimosas they had in the flight, to which she responds, whichever you want. I tell her I didn't see a menu (she may or may not have known that I'd already put in an order -- if there were drinks on the menu, or a separate menu, I didn't see it). She tells me the menu is at the front, to which I tell her I didn't see a drink menu, and just wanted to know what the options were. She continued to tell me to order at the front. Keep in mind, she wasn't actively doing anything that would stop her from just throwing out 2 or 3 flavors so I could get an idea. What I felt like was a simple question, went unanswered for what reason? The micro-aggressive nature of it all made me absolutely uncomfortable and I felt like my business wasn't valued. I'd give another half star, but there was no apparent reason for me to get treated like that, especially in comparison to the great service I received from the staff member at the front that took our order. I'm tired of feeling like this when I dine out around Austin.
The food was great. We got the Big Bird Biscuit, Chicken and Waffles, and another dish, I forgot. Only thing missing was my side order of sausage. But based on how big the biscuit was, I really didn't need it. Huge portions for the price. The place was generally inoffensive but I was expecting something a little different for the mood that day. It was almost like a cafeteria. I'd give dining in another try and just not order drinks from that bartender that didn't even care enough to not look like she just rolled out of the bed, but I'd definitely...
Read moreHipsters know good food.👍🏻 SOCO was just too busy so we wound up here. Not their fault but construction was going on as we dined. Not ideal but not so bad. The line moved fairly quickly and we ordered, got our drinks and sat down choosing to stay inside. It took quite some time for our food to arrive. I think part of the issue was having only one expediter to deliver food to tables. He used no tray so had a bit of trouble juggling plates. He also didn't know the menu so tried to call out the dishes but failed miserably. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I think it's important to be able to tell Tortilla Soup from Chili (the only 2 "soups" offered). The soup was delicious despite being cold by the time it got to the table. My husband even liked it. I also got the Spinach & Bacon Salad to which the expediter said, "I don't know what this is." I really liked the salad but I would have enjoyed it more with less cheese or more spinach. It was unbalanced... too much goat cheese. There must've been a pound of bacon on it and it also had dried cranberries and candied pecans served with a grainy honey mustard. I would definitely order again. Hubs ordered smoked salmon with jalapeno cream cheese, capers and crostini. He was brought a different salmon dish served with crisp pork belly dirty rice and seasonal veggies which was yellow and zucchini squash. He was too hungry to bother sending it back. I discovered goat cheese tastes yummy with squash. Sidenote: there was live music which was nice but also a bit loud which made the already loud talkers talk even louder trying to talk over the music. I would consider sitting outside next time. I also hope the construction is finished the next time I come. They're not currently able to utilize tables in the bar area because the construction dumps debris on them. No doubt you'll find something you like...
Read moreDecided to give this place a try based on the photos of good shown on social media. I guess that was the real mistake here. Walking in, the place was literally empty, which is somewhat perplexing. A staff member walked up to us to tell us to pick a seat and scan the qr code on the table to order our food. Seems sort of complicated vs just talking to wait staff, but OK, maybe this is how the hip places do it these days.
Prices are staggering to say the least. Half the menu items are over 20 dollars. I didn't feel like dealing with driving in Austin traffic looking for another place to eat so once we got over the sticker shock we proceeded to order. We had to make an account on this stupid website to even order our food, and put in our credit card information. They even had the audacity to ask for a tip as we are placing our order. Who even gets the tip if I'm ordering on my phone??
We ordered 2 kids plates, a salad of some sort, some queso, and some sliders. The kids Mac and cheese was just noodles in some Velveeta sauce, the sliders were basically fat burgers that had to be eaten with a fork because they were so soggy. The fries tasted like they had been microwaved and had no crispiness whatsoever. Even the salad was mediocre at best. The queso was reminiscent of some gas station tostitos dip with extra avacado slices on top with chips that were either over fried or cooked in some really old oil.
On top of that, looking in the door at the kitchen, the 2 guys cooking both have long frizzy hair with no hair nets whatsoever which was actually the icing on the cake. We just left at that point. We won't ever be going back and would highly reccomend anyone think twice before...
