2/3/25 - Update In response to the owners comments, he makes a fair point that comparing a chain to a local business isnt fair however he fails to mention that his business is also chain, though a small one and has multiple locations. Second, despite it being true that deliveries add on cost that doesn't justify offering crazy high prices for a tiny sandwich no matter how good it tastes. I consider myself a fair reviewer and I've had my share of experience eating out across the US. I know what a good sandwich tastes like. The sandwiches here do taste good but not $16 worth. Heck, home slice, a LOCAL austin business which specializes in pizza offers a sandwich that's larger, more filling for the same price.
Original Review I hate being "that" guy that writes a bad review on a place that generally has stellar reviews but I have to be honest. The reason for the 3 stars? Price. I ordered the Porchetta Sandwich through lunch drop after reading nothing but good reviews but was shocked to see how small it was. It was a little bigger then 6 inches long for over $16 with tax. It doesn't matter how good a sandwich is if the price doesn't reflect its value and I'm sorry to say but the value is not there. You can get a sandwich at potbelly for $15/$16 for twice the size that's filling and customized...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWow!! This place has appeared on my radar since moving to Austin a few months ago. Iām a little upset with myself that Iāve waited so long to experience the deliciousness that is the porchetta sandwich!! This is the kind of culinary journey my taste buds live for. The best of ingredients combined to make one hell of a sandwich! Let's start with the artisan ciabatta bread. You could sense with each bite and crunch that the bread was baked fresh for these sandwiches. Next, the porchetta is chopped and piled on top of that perfect bread vessel and dressed with a drizzle of salsa verde. But the real treat is how the pork crackling is kept separated from the juicy porchetta to preserve its crunch and crumbled on top before capping with the ciabatta topper. This is probably hands down one of the best sandwiches Iāve ever had! Although the sandwich blew me away, the staff and service were just as excellent as the sandwich. To the two guys working today when I came in 30 minutes before close, thank you for being awesome and making me a new...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI waited until I came down from Cloud 9 to write this review: this is a sandwich place that will provide you a better meal and better service than any of the top 10 most expensive restaurants in Austin.
Youāll know when you walk in and look down at the Porchetta on the counter that everything is going to be okay. Then, youāll look up at the smiling face of the owners & staff and know that things are going to be way better than okay.
My wife and I accidentally shared 3 sandwiches, which was not our intention when we walked in. The Porchetta melted on our tongues while the super crunchy cracklin skin threatened to cut up the roof of our mouths. The fresh baked ciabatta bread will NOT bore you.
Everything on the menu will take you on a flavor and texture adventure worth telling everyone you know about. I have scheduled 3 lunches with friends over the next 2 weeks here and I canāt wait to get back.
If youāre reading this, get to Meat & Bread ASAP and be ready to eat enough to hurt yourself....
