Myself and a girlfriend of mine visited the restaurant today and ordered the calamari, the lobster Hawaiian roll sliders, and steak with french fries. We arrived around 2:48 PM We sat ourselves as there were no servers and or host at the front door to see us. We had to flag down a server to order food and drinks.
The calamari was decent. My good friend ordered the steak and french fries it came with blue cheese and she wasn’t too fascinated with the blue cheese on her steak. My lobster Sliders came out and I was thoroughly under impressed. The lettuce was very soggy. The sauce was unflavored. The lobster was chopped up and was not a decent portion.
I informed the server that I did not like the lobster rolls and I did not want the food, but I wanted to keep my calamari and my piña colada mo-cocktail. The manager then came over to our table and stated to me that there’s nothing wrong with the lobster sliders, and this is how they are done. They’ve been making them the same way all day long and that I had to pay for the food that I did not wish to eat as it was undesirable. The manager then said he would call the police on me so I opted to call the police instead. Once the police arrived, I stated the situation to them, and I was told that I had to pay and that I was basically breaking the "dining and dashing" as I did not wish to pay for the lobster rolls that I did not wish to eat and disliked as that was my first time at the restaurant as a tourist.
For reference purposes… Penal Code 537: This law specifically addresses the act of obtaining food, fuel, services, or accommodations at a hotel, inn, restaurant, or similar establishment without paying, with the intent to defraud the proprietor or manager.
I asked the police officer if I am being forced to pay for food that I did not eat and disliked and the officer responded Stating that no, I was not being forced to pay for the food, but it was up to the manager’s discretion. I did look to the manager and reconfirmed if I was being forced to pay for the food and the manager told me that I had to pay for the meal as I ordered the food and if I didn’t want it, I should’ve never ordered it. I didn’t say this to the manager that how would I know if I liked an item unless I ordered the food?
I went and sat down to finish my remaining calamari, and the police officer walked up to me and stated that the manager decided to not charge me for the lobster rolls that had not been eaten. After I did a video recording of the incident in the restaurant for...
Read moreWe were in Avalon on Catalina Island in California to attend the Catalina Island Jazz Trax Festival.
We noticed that the old restaurant that we used to go to was no longer there. There was a new restaurant named “Pier 24” now there. We decided to have dinner at the new restaurant. It was 6 of us. James, who greeted us at the door, offered us a small private room with a great ocean view. The little room was fantastic.
Once in the room we were greeted by a wonderful waitress. He name was Amanda. We later were informed her last name was Dzul. She was so attentive to us, even though she was running around attending to many tables. She always came in the room with the biggest smile on her face. She made us feel so welcomed. One of the people in our party ordered a salmon dish. Because of her lactose intolerance she couldn’t eat it because of the sauce. We brought this to Amaya’s attention and she allowed her to order another dish. She had it in 10 minutes.
We were so comfortable that we didn’t want to leave. But we had to because we were already late to the jazz concert. In closing I just want to say that Anaya’s service was fantastic and exemplary. I would definitely recommend the restaurant and ask to be seated in...
Read moreThis is a new restaurant in Avalon. It used to be Antonio's. The food here is good. The outdoor seating is relaxing and enjoyable. I had the Spicy Buffalo Pizza. The crust was perfect, light and fluffy with a crisp crust. It had a light amount of cheese and pizza sauce with sparse but tasty Buffalo sausage and pepperoni on it. My daughter had the lobster sliders which were not good. The turmeric spice on it was not good and a scant amount of lobster. KC had the fish tacos which were good but not great. The fish was overcooked and dry, but the taco shells were fresh and tasty. A little avocado or creama on them would have elevated them to another level. Andreas had the double smash burger. It is big and good but the meat is thin and reminded me of a cafeteria hamburger patty, not a smash patty. The fries and onion rings are good. Overall I would eat there again but don't expect...
