The wife and I went to Fuji Ramen of Avon, and it was great!
They have a diverse menu of authentic Japanese dishes and drinks, with some other Asian influences peppered around the menu. A hidden gem of this place is the Thai tea, I ordered one and it was delicious! Apparently they steep the Thai tea traditionally by using the leaf instead of most other places now use a powder mix which has no flavor. Fuji Ramen’s Thai tea was flavorful and delicious.
Ok, enough about the tea, the food menu runs deep with different ramens, takoyaki, gyoza, shumai, tempura, donburi, yakitori, katsudon, and many more options! They have boba teas, mochi, taiyaki, and many others for drinks and desserts.
We ordered the traditional Tonkotsu, a “Fuji Mystery”, takoyaki, melon ramune, and a Thai Tea and enjoyed our entire meal. The Fuji Mystery was the best mildly spicy ramen I have ever had anywhere! It was the perfect balance of spicy and warm as to not overload on the heat and allow me to eat the entire bowl without stopping. I find it difficult to order and eat spicy ramen because usually the spice and heat sneak up on you and overwhelm the dish, but they used the perfect amount and balance of flavors. Their boiled egg is also marinated in either soy or miso, and it was delicious! Also in true Japanese fashion, they offer “set combos” if that’s your liking.
The design of the place is amazing! Walking through the front door you are transported into what seemed to be a Kyoto-like Izakaya 🏮 with traditional Japanese accents and decor. A beautiful lighted inlay of the USA with cherry blossoms and their logo emerging from the center was an elegant and quiet touch to greet you at the door. Into the restaurant, you’ll then see a breathtaking view of Mt. Fuji, and then paper lanterns, shabari-gasa (geisha umbrellas), and sakura (cherry blossoms) adorn the walls and ceiling. Every table is a deep rich wood, and there are a ton of amazing booths that are equivalent to high category dining seats in a traditional Japanese restaurant. The inside of this place would be considered an upscale “nice place” to take friends, family, coworkers, and business interests in Japan.
The staff were super welcoming and friendly!
You have to check it out. Right off Rockville/36 after Ronald Reagan Pkwy, if you’re coming...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I saw this place was opening up and wanted to support them on day 1! We went around 1:30 for lunch. We ordered the Takoyaki appetizer (a favorite of ours) and the chicken and green onion yakitori. Both were fantastic; he was very pleased with the yakitori! A lot of places overcook it, but Fuji did it perfectly! Our dishes came out at the perfect times, which is very rare for restaurants. The atmosphere so something you’d expect to see in downtown Indy, beautiful decor with seating set into the wall for dates to groups of 4. The staff was extremely kind and sincere in their service and appreciation for the customers. For our main meal, we got the Osaka combo which comes with a Tonkatsu ramen, Fuji Mystery ramen (we both picked pork belly), bao buns (pork or chicken, we picked pork), karaage, and a house special drink (we picked the lemonade). This combo is a great pick for 2, and will absolutely fill you up! The portion sizes are plenty! I won’t say too much about the mystery ramen, since it’s supposed to be a mystery, but if you tend to like chili oil, you will like it! 🥰 My boyfriend had the tonkatsu ramen, and was most impressed with its broth. We both packed up the last half of our ramen since we ordered so much, we ended up full before we finished it! The bao buns were simple and light, the sauce was delicious. The lemonade was amazing and just felt very fresh to drink. My boyfriend did not like his very much because he doesn’t like cucumber, but I loved it and drank ours both. It is a lemonade with slight cucumber flavor and a cucumber slice on top. Our favorite dish was the karaage. It was fatty and crunchy, perfectly cooked, with a yummy spicy mayo sauce. I included pictures of everything we ordered except the yakitori (he ate it before I could get a photo). I did not take any pictures of the inside of the restaurant because I didn’t want to get in the way/be rude. You will have to go see it for yourself!! We will be going back to try additional dishes! Thank you for...
Read moreThe interior was hip and cozy at the same time for being isolated from the many shopping/eatery plazas on the same street. The staff were friendly and came by every few minutes to ensure my meal was going well. Along with regular booths and tables, there's also counter/bar seating along the back and raised booths on the right side, perfect for dates and intimate friend groups.
Today I ordered the Mukbang combo (tonkotsu ramen, Thai tea, karaage) and shrimp tempura. All dishes came out super quickly, almost to a fault*. The sauces that came with the fried appetizers were a sweet soy sauce and a creamy mild mayonnaise that kept my palate busy. The karaage and tempura had lightly seasoned, crunchy batter exteriors and were tender on the inside. The ramen itself is deep and rich, and none of the toppings clashed with the soup.
Each table has a self-serve array of sauerkraut, chili powder, and chili oil that pair well with everything I had.
*My only personal issue is that I'm a slow eater, and everything I ordered is best eaten right away. If you're like me, and you're going to order a hearty ramen, definitely get grilled appetizers instead. If your main dish is a rice bowl (donburi), you're safe ordering tempura appetizers.
Price point: Despite me spending ~$35 total on my meal, a bowl here is about $15-16, and the portion size of the...
