I had already decided to eat here because I am on a trip with my French students to the Baltimore museum of art to see the Matisse exhibit and I wanted to stick with the Francophone theme. it also didn’t hurt that the guys in black shirts were easy on the eyes.
They were cute as a buttons and it gave me an excuse to go up and interact with them. Bruh, I’m single and I’m a guy, so give me a break. However. I saw the prices and about choked. Prices run up to $30 for some items.
I couldn’t make up my mind, and I had my eye on too many different things, making sure my students were OK. So I “settled” for a shrimp, Poboy, and greens and beignets.
Er ma gerd! The Po Boy boy was kind of small, but it was a beautiful sandwich. The colors from the sauce to the shrimp to the tomato and the lettuce and the bread made it a really pretty sandwich. I could taste the tomatoes. I’m not sure how since it’s spring; nonetheless, I could taste of tomatoes I could take each item separately in the sandwich and it was delicious the Bing it or piping hot and dipped in chocolate sauce I shared with my students all of them closed their eyes while eating.
Realizing I didn’t have a drink, I went and got a $3.50 Cent bottle of Coca-Cola. That’s the price at every booth. Oh, and I got some corn bread, and they assured me that the corn bread was sweet but no added sugar. I’m spoiled by my mom’s cornbread. I have high standards! Then I read in the reviews that the grits stand alone and they could be a meal in and of themselves. Since I couldn’t finish my greens which were out of this world excellent, I went back a third time to get an order of grits. Tonight I will have a vegetarian meal of cornbread, grits and greens. I am so excited for dinner.
So yes, while I am a food sl#t, with no shame in my game, I had a most excellent meal, and a great end to my field trip with my beloved students.
Tonight I will be piggy alone with my one of my top favorite cuisines:...
Read more11/09/2024 - So, I felt like giving Creole Soul a second shot.... and they struck out AGAIN. My Lobster Mac-n-Cheese was pedestrian at best. The Catfish Shrimp-n-grits had decent flavor, a bit salty. But the biggest miss was the S__food gumbo. Yes, that's written correctly because there was a lot missing. My wife (again) found more shrimp tails (7) than shrimp (only 2) 😳. And the shrimp were overcooked, all soft and mushy 😩. The rue for the gumbo was not good, so the rest of the gumbo suffered. I'm sorry, but this seems like more of "I got family two times removed on my mother's side from Louisiana" Soul Restaurant than it's current name. I tried twice, but not thrice.
I LOVED my first experience at Creole Soul. The food was delicious, the creole flavors came through and worth the trip. But you may ask, "Why did you only rate them a '3' instead of 4.5 or 5 stars?" Service, the lack of attention by the staff to my order. When I placed the order online, I very specifically and in bold letters stated "SAUCE ON THE SIDE" for my shrimp & oyster po' boy. And when I got it home, the sauce was not on the side, and my wife was not happy, meaning she had to scrape it off and ruin the sandwich. Had the staff paid attention to the special request, I would've gladly given them a 4.5 or 5 stars. Maybe next visit I'll see if they pay attention.
SUGGESTION: To prevent your takeout sandwiches from getting soggy, place the sauces in a separate container and let the client determine how much to put on the sandwich. Plus, it won't ruin a perfectly good and...
Read moreThis is my second experience with this place and it was so poor it warranted a review. The first time I ordered an entree they didn't have available. They told me this after several minutes of waiting. I wasn't interested in anything else so asked for a refund. They assured me it would be taken care of. They never actually processed a refund, had to dispute with my credit card company to get my money back.
This time: I ordered the jerked salmon, I asked if I could substitute rice for grits and was told sure, no problem. A young man who appeared to be a cook overheard my request and grumbled something about rice, and the lady taking my order just waved him off. Red flag #1. Waited almost 30 minutes only to be handed a container full of slop. See attached photo. It was probably the most unappetizing looking meal I've ever gotten at a restaurant. The rice and fish were DROWNING in so much liquid that it overflowed into the bottom of the bag. All of it was a brownish gray color. I took a teeny bite of the salmon and it had hardly any flavor, as if they couldn't be bothered to actually season the food.
Needless to say I immediately took it back to the counter and asked why they would serve food that was clearly so poorly prepared. The employee was apologetic and agreed it didn't look right at all. He had to get another young lady to void the transaction and she also apologized and asked if I wanted them to remake it. I declined. I so badly wanted to support this black owned business but I won't give them...
