A man had a dream. He wanted to share his beer with his friends. He invited his neighbors over to help him make some beer to share and thus the story of the Pickett Brewing Company started. He partnered with a neighbor and friend and thus their journey began. In spite of all the turns and obstacles in their way, they persevered and finally opened. Covid was not going to stop them from achieving their dream. After years of building up from scratch, they finally opened up this week. My family went there this Saturday and we tried every beer they offered. The very last beer we tried was called the Totally Drinkable. It was last because of its dubious name. The word is the Owner was not satisfied with the taste but his friends convinced him it was totally drinkable and honestly, it was totally drinkable. Not sure why he wasn't satisfied with it but everyone has different taste. The setting is not overly pretentious. It is just a good comfortable environment to relax and have fun with friends and family. They do not serve food at this place but you are totally welcomed to bring your own food. We chose some CM Chicken because, you know, Korean chicken and beer is a thing these days. Anyway, we had a wonderful time and will definitely visit again soon. And this is the definition of a local small business.
PS: for full disclosure, I know...

The tap room was cozy with a variety of seating options and dogs (and a cat) to pet. But what I was really impressed by were the beertenders. Jess K was such a true ambassador for Pickett. She knew the line up well, was quick to offer samples without being asked, and even shared her personal preferences. She was engaging, fun, and yet still humble as she readily acknowledged that she is a beer lover but not necessarily a beer "expert." I love when people have the insight and self-confidence to accurately describe their level of expertise. Kudos to Pickett for great beer and to Jess K for wonderful representation of a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirst came to Pickett because a close friend is retired Coast Guard(Jason is CG as well) to check it out and meet the guy. Have since had the opportunity to meet and hang out with Kate as well. Two great people running what I believe is maybe the best small brewery in the area. Especially on the Hazy/NE IPAās, but Jason has found his stride with WCIPA, pilsners, Irish stouts and a lot of other styles as well.
I donāt live downtown, and donāt make the effort to drive down often unless itās for Oās/Ravens or a one/off dinner at a favorite place, but I will bring myself to Pickett even if Iām alone, just to drink a great beer or two and take in the experience.
BTW, shout out to Tuna, the best brewery cat...
