I am a fan of Hilton hotels, having stayed at their properties for years; especially the perks you can receive through the HHonors program...
Being able to use your points for upgrades at certain properties, in the restaurants, and otherways, has always been nice.
Being able to link with credit cards and airlines that give HHonors points has also been great.
Learning that being an HHonors member, I can contact HHonors customer service if a property is sold out and they can get a reservation in at that property for me since HHonors members receive priority over non-members, has been a plus...
Not to mention the fact that I can use my points on Amazon?! Yes please!
Anyway, Hampton Inn Convention Baltimore was a pleasant experience; my mother, sister and I stayed here couple of weekends ago while in town for a memorial for my mother's sister-in-law/our aunt.
This is a great place to go if you're in town for a ball game since the hotel sits directly behind the ballpark and you merely need to walk across the street to get to it.
Breakfast was nice, with a nice variety of the usual hot and cold items, breads for toasting, milk and juice, eggs, meat, fresh fruit and hard-boiled eggs, waffles, coffee, etc.
Their "Go Bag" for guests on the run are great; an apple, a couple of little breakfast bars, a water, and a napkin.
Unfortunately, they have one person working and she did not appear to understand requests made for items that were out. Additionally, she seemed put out to be asked about those items' availability, then would say she'd get whatever you asked for in a minute, then would go back to things like wiping down the coffee station or the Hilton emblem on the wall next to the toaster. Definitely not really a Hilton standard.
Having been a guest at Hilton hotels for a number of years, I was a little nonplussed at the $150 per day incidental hold at this property. If they had a restaurant, it would make sense, but it has nothing more than a Marketplace with small incidental items, some cold/frozen items and some adult beverages like beers and wine. Maybe a $50 a day incidental hold would be more appropriate, then up that if the guest gets close to the $50 (since I'm sure there are those who have a few beers at a ball game and come back ready to party it up from the Marketplace beverages).
That said, the room was a nice size and, although the decor was a little dated, everything was comfortable and clean...
If you are sensitive to scented sprays, beware that housekeeping apparently sprays something in each room upon cleaning to deodorize, but it's really just a very strong, very perfumey, pretty unpleasant fog when you walk in.
Mad respect and special props to the valets; they were super responsive and quick to help my mother, who is not steady on her feet. Having been in the hotel business 30 years ago, and now part time, I get that they work for tips, but these guys were just super nice above and beyond.
Be aware, H.I. offers only valet parking at almost $40 a day. There is other parking around that you can walk to if you want, but the only street parking is metered.
Their pool is in the basement, clearly having been eked in at some point long after the building was built, so it is very small and it is an "L" shape.
Unfortunately, because of its size, if there're any children in the pool, you may as well resign yourself to staying in one corner so as not to be jumped on or splashed. This is not the fault of the hotel, though...
SO PARENTS, PLEASE WATCH YOUR KIDS AND DON'T LET THEM ROUGHHOUSE AND CANNONBALL ON TOP OF ADULTS IN THE POOL
The chlorine level in the pool is pretty high, too, it's all I could smell for the rest of the day, so be aware.
Again, all in all, a nice experience and will...
Read moreStayed four nights with my family. Upgraded my room and enjoyed the view. The service at the front desk weren’t rude but also not as helpful as I was hoping. Wish I could note more positives. Requested bare minimum housekeeping twice during our stay. Asked for a simple removal of old towels and takeout containers (garbage). The first time I requested through the app and got no response. The next day I requested via the front desk about the housekeeping after getting breakfast with my daughter. We were added to a list and told it had to be done before noon which was no problem on our part. Upon reentry late that evening we discovered nothing had been removed. Coming back to a dirty room was incredibly disappointing after a long hot day roaming the city. I had even set all the to go boxes, used towels, and the little trash can in the kitchen section of the room so it was convenient and would be quick to remove. My second biggest gripe about our time there was the cleanliness of the pool. One of the main reasons I chose this hotel over different Hampton inn/Hilton locations in the area was so my young daughter could enjoy the pool. Upon arrival to the pool it was so cloudy I couldn’t see my feet and pulled a long wad of hair out of the center of the pool that reminded me of cleaning out my bathroom tub drain, along was other floating hairs wading along the waters. I was incredibly disgusted and heartbroken I had to tell my daughter there was no way we could swim in our hotels pool & we need to go upstairs and shower immediately. Lastly, breakfast was fair. Not a lot of offerings but not terrible for being complimentary. The Hampton Inn I stayed at this past fall had a much better breakfast setup + offerings but I understand it’s a different location so it varies. Overall, I wouldn’t stay at this hotel again. As a Hilton team member myself I left disappointed and wished I would have picked a different hotel altogether rather than splurging on an upgrade to my room at this hotel. P.S. Our stay occurred while there were no home baseball games going on so I couldn’t even imagine the neglect the hotel and guests receive while it’s...
Read moreStayed at Hampton Inn August 23-25. Initial first impression of reception area looked small but appeared clean. Entrance is too small especially with the traffic of the sports bar & stadium crowd. Speaking of which excellent location just steps away from the Pickles sports bar, Orioles stadium, and just a few blocks from M&T Bank stadium. Valet parking is $40 daily (tax included) & in/out allowed. Front desk rep welcoming. Assigned room 410 (corner King suite) and appeared modern, clean, & impressive. Excellent large window views & natural lighting. Clean carpet (deal breaker if not). Upon closer inspection, noticed hair on the mattress pad & sheets and later on a towel & hair stuck on the shower ceiling. (I travel with & recommend you always bring your own plastic mattress cover, cloth mattress & pillow pad, sheets, and blanket). Shower water pressure extremely low (requires longer shower time) but stayed hot. Automatic bathroom lights kept shutting off and was annoying. I appreciated the complimentary morning breakfast albeit very basic with few options. Overall a good/pleasant stay (not great but also not bad). Requires housekeeping supervision after each checkout. Appears clean but needs closer look.
Pros: friendly staff, modern, impressive, spacious suite, appears clean, complimentary breakfast buffet, outdoor lounge area, indoor pool (closed), exercise room, valet parking, excellent location
Cons: leftover hair on mattress, shower, & towel. Housekeeping supervision, shower water pressure, automatic bathroom lights, sub par food at breakfast buffet, $40 daily parking
Overall good/pleasant stay however more housekeeping supervision needed before, during, & after accomodations. Also, investing in an inexpensive plastic bed cover would reduce the chance of a soiled mattress. Providing a few more options at the complimentary breakfast would enhance the experience. Would stay here again if improved housekeeping supervision & maintenance resolves shower water pressure. Will reevaluate before next trip to the area. I hope this...
