Would love to tell you how good the drinks are but, I WAS NEVER SERVED. Came in to grab a drink aroumd 6:15pm. One group of approx 7 ppl at the bar. Other than that no one was really in there. Sat at the table in the bar area with my companion and was impressed by the menu. Once decisions had been made on drinks we relocated to the corner of the bar by the door and sat down. Sat at the bar approx 10 mins without being acknowledged. 3 bartenders are behind the bar. One white male and two white females. One blond wearing all black and one with brunette hair wearing a white shirt. The brunette waitress brought us water and ran off before I could even open my mouth and this was after sitting there for approx 10 mins. We continued to sit without having our drink orders taken. The male bartender came right to our corner, 1 foot away from us, and instead of taking our order he just opened a bunch of bottles and didn't even look at us. I observed the blond waitress give someone in the group of 7 a drink then just stand at the end of the bar. She made eye contact with me then looked away. She continued to just stand there. The whole time the brunette waitress was making drinks. After some more time had passed and no one took our drink orders we left.
I dont know if we didn't get served because the service is horrible at this place or if its because, as an African American Male, I didn't look like the other Caucasian customers. I would love to hear from management but if the staff represents the business and the management, I know they won't reach out or care about...
Read moreWith sincere apologies to Perez, the owner, for not visiting nearly often enough, I continue to be impressed over many years now with his service/training sensibility that is evident in every visit I do make. I have been able to call out almost any slightly obscure classic (Brooklyn, anyone?–hey, I'm 58, young for even that one!) without so much as an eyebrow-raising or, at "worst," a quick discussion to align the desired direction with whomever is behind the stick. In this last case (and, mea culpa, I have fallen down on the job by not catching his name–my apologies, sir! :-( ), after a brief discussion with the barkeep on rums for Daiquiri's (a simple cocktail that has been destroyed by "consumerized" treatment), he decided on an inspired, quite refreshing, Haitian 'hootch' variation (Clairin is the rum, if you wish). Whether you decide to test the barkeep staff on cocktail minutiae or, better, just try their inspired house cocktail choices, you can't...
Read moreWhat is there to say–Rye is one of the best cocktail spots in Baltimore. This place is owned by one of the most humble bartenders, who is passionate about making the best drinks. During my 8 years of living in Baltimore, Rye has always been my go-to for a good time and delicious drinks, along with celebrations (i.e., birthdays/graduations). Over the years, they have changed their menu just enough to keep things fresh. Most of their bourbon/rye-based drinks are great, and The Breukelen will always be my favorite (you can ask for it even if it’s not on the current menu). The bar area is loud and lively; the back section can be quite low-key with a lot of seating, especially on...
