I have been going to Sal's Seafood since a little before COVID, and it became a staple for me once things started to open back up. The food is well-portioned, and the whole fish is what initially attracted me to this place because it reminds me of being on the islands. The young lady and an older gentleman who work there provide phenomenal customer service and prepare the food wonderfully. However, there's a short staff member who is extremely rude. He often congregates with two younger men, talking and laughing in their language, making customers feel uncomfortable.
On my last visit, I was reading the menu and went to ask a question, but he walked away. He then spoke to the two guys and they all started laughing. I had to wait for him to return to take my order. Another guest also asked for his name because he was being rude to them, and he responded, "I don't know," before walking away and continuing his conversation with the other two, laughing again.
The food quality has declined, and so has the service. I went from being a weekly customer to probably never returning unless they are my only seafood option. I am big on customer service and the energy people put out, especially when they're making my food. Customer service training is needed unless the owner...
Read moreSo my nephew and his dad were visiting from Germany and we went to Fells point. I made my nephew decide where we would eat and we ended up at the market. The prices were better at Sal's than anything around so we figured we'd give it a try. MAN O MAN. When I say this was the best fish sandwich I've had in 24 years I MEAN that because I know where the first one was 24 years ago. Sal's was even better. We all loved our food but I was especially pleased. I had the catfish sandwich. The batter was perfectly seasoned and super crunchy. The filet was huge( check the picture). I was pleasantly full. Fries were great as well. I also had a lemonade and the size was worth the money. This was an all around GREAT meal for a first time. Turns out that the guy bussing the tables was Sal (check the picture) and he is very friendly and happy to talk about his food and the interesting history he has had in the food business. I will definitely be going for lunch again, oh yeah I live in D.C. but it is worth the trip. You WON'T be...
Read moreWe were looking for something less touristy and this was the best. You walk in and it is a seafood market with a couple of tables. Everyone was extremely friendly and made sure we enjoyed everything while also making suggestions for sauces.
We got the Seafood Platter ($15), which came with 3 large scallops, fried white fish, 4 fried shrimp, 3 large fried clams and fries. We also ordered the fish tacos ($10) which were 3 full tacos with a delicious salsa on the side. The food was prepared perfectly, the scallops were extremely well done (probably the best prepared I've ever had... perfect consistency). Two adults and one toddler couldn't finish all the food. Great value for somewhere out of a tourist area, so in this area it would probably be the best value for seafood.
All around an amazing food experience at a great value. If you are looking for casual, no frills, good...
