The place is absolutely terrible and it started with rudeness and ignorance. We picked this place to stop by for some desert. Ordered Napoleon cakes and some ice cream. Sat down at the available table and there were quite some at the moment. Let me tell you - this was absolutely tasteless and one of the worst gelatos we have ever tried (everyone agreed) , but on top of that the not so nice waitress with red hair was talking about us with other people at the table next to us. Other people must have been very jealous that we just got an ice cream and were able to sit down and they order a meal or something. They just decided to snitch on us. And we asked the waitress right away - why would you talk behind our backs? And the answer was: I was going to let you know after I speak to them, that you cannot sit here if you just order for take out. I am a person on a wheelchair and I just cannot wheel with one hand and eat ice cream with the other. Yes we had Napoleon's for later, but decided to sit down and just enjoy this sooo tasteless ice cream and were told to leave. First,I did not realize they said this for real,so she came down again and asked us to leave. We left very disappointed and disrespected leaving terrible gelatos on the table. As we walked outside for a little,we decided to come back and return Napoleon's back to them for treating us like that. Also called manager and she explained that carry out and dine in are different prices and that they have a sign (small sign) no one even noticed it - that you cannot eat carry out inside. We honestly did not pay attention to this and thought that we could have and ice cream there at no problem since it wasn't packed or anything. Everywhere in Europe (Italy) it wasn't even a problem. And here it turned out to be a whole catastrophy. It was a humiliation, discrimination for someone on a wheelchair, even though I explained to your manager that I can't just wheel a wheelchair and eat ice cream. Very very disrespectful. You were greedy to not let us sit at the table and your giggling red head waitress also should learn some manners or not work there at all.
We will never come back and do not advise so for the others. Look for a better place! Glad we returned Napoleon's,because I just read others reviews about stale and old Cannoli's and...
Read moreDisclaimer: This review isn't coming from a place of hatred or "being a Karen," but rather from a desire to raise awareness about Vacarro's poor customer service.
I’m a Little Italy local and have been going to Vacarro's since moving here last year. The food is great; I've never been disappointed in that regard. And while the service has been questionable at times, I've looked past it and continued to return. However, after our most recent experience, I may no longer be able to support this business.
The other day, my partner and I were walking back from the Orioles game and craving gelato—especially with the heat wave. We walked over to Vacarro's about 20 minutes before they closed at 9:00 p.m., according to Google, but the door listed the closing time as 8:00 p.m., so we weren't sure if they were still open.
We peeked inside and saw the employees silently closing up: covering the gelato, shutting down equipment, and turning off the pastry case lights. Genuinely unsure whether the hours online were outdated, we approached the counter and asked the one teen employee wearing AirPods if they were still open.
Clearly annoyed by our presence, she looked us up and down before muttering, “If the door’s unlocked, we’re open. God, I don’t have time for your dumbass questions. Especially when it’s hot as hell.” She then turned around and walked away, leaving us standing there in complete shock.
I’ve never been spoken to like that in a food service environment. We left, baffled by the treatment, and instead had some ice cream from our freezer—thankfully without the sass.
We did not feel welcome, and I wanted to make others aware of this behavior, which, judging from recent reviews, appears to be part of a pattern.
Management, I hope you address this. It’s disappointing, and as a Little Italy resident, I’m embarrassed for any tourists who may receive the same treatment my...
Read moreI had a unique experience here, but overall had a good tasty one. We got a mango smoothie, one of their lemon special drinks (forgot the name) with lemon liqueur over a lemon granita, a tiramisu, and a vanilla cream puff. The place definitely seems like a local favorite with a lot of great choices. I came in for gelato but their machine was broken.
Alright, this is where I pick a side. I would've maybe given a 4 star review for the overall experience and value, but I know everything would've been better if I didn't just witness a group of customers essentially verbally assaulting the staff (which I know affected service quality that day) so I'm going to say today was probably just a bad day overall due to that experience since that's not their fault and I'll give them the extra point because they recovered quickly. We got a staff apology and received resumed good service. To the ladies who were yelled at, no customers should ever yell at service staff (or anyone else for that matter really) like that. Saw the whole thing go down and that whole situation seemed unexpected and unnecessary to deal with. Keep your head up, the experience is over, and tomorrow is the chance for a new better day.
Review part, mango smoothie is on the sweet side but yummy (our personal preference is usually less sweet for drinks, but that's not their fault, if sweets are your thing you may love it!), limoncello thing was good and strong (bigger than I expected but good!), vanilla cream puff (not my favorite, could use some work, but maybe the other ones they have are better), tiramisu was tasty (I don't usually get it with the cream and syrup, but it was good and big enough to take home). Overall, thanks for a tasty bite and booze for my first trip...
