The USCGC Taney (now known as USCG Cutter 37) is the last surviving warship that was present and fought at the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Built in 1936, the Taney is a high-endurance Coast Guard cutter that served in various roles during World War II, including escorting convoys and participating in the occupation of Japan. The Taney is now a floating museum and National Historic Landmark located in Baltimore's Inner Harbor. Key Details Name: USCGC Taney (WPG/WAGC/WHEC-37) Significance: The last warship floating that participated in the attack on Pearl Harbor. Service: Commissioned in 1936, the Taney served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 50 years, including during World War II. Current Location: Pier 5, Inner Harbor, Baltimore, Maryland, where it is preserved as a museum ship. Designation: A National Historic Landmark, the Taney is a testament to the changing capabilities of U.S. naval vessels. Historical Role The Taney was named after Roger B. Taney, a former Secretary of the Treasury. It served as a patrol and law enforcement vessel for the U.S. Coast Guard. During World War II, it took on roles such as convoy escort, amphibious force flagship, and participated in the Battle of Okinawa. After the war, it continued to serve in ocean weather patrols, fisheries patrol, and search and rescue operations until its decommissioning in 1986.

We love our experience in Baltimore...

Bought tickets in advance and this was the last ship on the list before the lighthouse. Guy in charge of validating the tickets (name tag : Heart) kept chatting/asking trivia questions with the group ahead of us. After waiting for 5 minutes in the heat, we saw some people skipping the counter and proceeded with tour which we ended up doing. When we headed back towards the front exit, the guy in front started lecturing us about how we should've waited for him to finish. While sure, while we might be in the wrong, but you saw us waiting and didn't say anything when we left the queue. Also, it was approaching 3:30pm and we wanted to visit the lighthouse that closes at 4:30.

Some advice, you can still use your hands to validate tickets while chatting.

Side note, the people working the other 3 ships were wonderful and attentive. Stamped the passes quickly and gave us safety instructions on how to go...

This ship was so cool! It was the first ship that I toured for the day and I’ve never been on a historical ship prior to this. There are so many levels and so many things to see on the ship. I highly recommend you make this your first stop and then visit the other three.

I bought the day pass for $22 online and I highly recommend that you buy tickets in advance so that it shortens the wait time. I went on a Friday in the afternoon and I was one of two people to tour the ship at this time before you enter the ship, there is a small gift shop where you can buy things. The attendant is very kind and informative . I highly highly recommend.

This is not accessible for people with a wheelchair and may be difficult for people with canes as the stairs are very steep. This is fun for children and families, and there are some interactive moments...

We did the overnight experience with the boy scouts and it was absolutely fantastic. We got to stay in the bunks that sailors slept in, we did General Quarters drills, we did a simulation of the ship leaking and needing to be secured. We got to see the Engine rooms in detail and the guns up close. We toured the bridge and the cic rooms. Very interesting and fun. Got a lot of extra history and learned a lot. Got to eat in the mess and tour many other components. If you get the chance to do this, I highly recommend it.
