Baltimore | A Charming Italian Pizzeria
Jeff BredtJeff Bredt
Dropped by during brunch service and, since it was a beautiful day, sat outside. There was a single server, very busy, but very polite. The Kid and I opted for a 'mocktail' each: I had the peach lemonade and she had the ginger lemon. Both were tasty, but the glasses were so full of ice that we probably had about a half a glass of drink. The Missus (bless 'er) had a local IPA. I ordered the arugula and tomato salad and the baked egg margherita pizza. The Kid went for the nutella stuffed french toast with fruit and syrup, and the Missus (bless 'er) had the puttanesca pizza While the flavor of my pie was good, it was sorely undercooked: the crust browned at the edges, but the bottom was barely warm and very floppy. As someone who has worked the woodburning pizza oven station in an Italian restaurant, I know of what I speak. The situation with the Missus' pie was the same- tasty but barely done, The french toast was outstanding, maybe amongst the best french toast I've ever had (writes the guy who makes the dish with croissants), except that it had no nutella. Bummer. Strangely, my salad did not arrive until I was on my last slice, so it was boxed to go. When I did eat it later, it was fabulous! Really. The greens were super fresh and the vinaigrette was some sort of lemon/XVOO business that perfectly complimented the peppery flavor of the arugula. Despite the floppy pies and delivery miscue, we really enjoyed the flavors of the food and the graciousness of the service. A definite return for us.

TLDR: Tasty brick fire pizza with high end, clever topping combinations. Makes for a fun bottomless brunch spot. Vibe: 4/5. We sat outside during our stay at patio furniture on the sidewalk on a nice mid 70s fall day. Inside seemed to be cozy and nicely setup for parties both large and small. Service: 5/5. Sitting outside has it's drawbacks as sometimes service "forgets" about you. This was not the case at Verde. Service constantly kept our bottomless mimosas full as well as delivered our food in a timely matter. They were also very knowledgeable, providing us with suggestions on what to order. If it's your first time dining at Verde, the menu can be overwhelming (20+ pizza combinations on the regular menu and 5-10 on the brunch menu) so this was a major help. Food: 5/5. The pizzas were very well executed. We ordered 5 pies in total as well as a mozzarella appetizer. I went with a brunch pie that had procuitto, sunny egg, olives and cheese which turned out fantastic. Everyone else's pizzas turned out delicious from what I gathered. The mozzarella appetizer was a tasty way to start, as their kitchen makes their mozzarella all in house. As mentioned before, we opted for bottomless mimosas and they were refreshing (made with fresh squeezed oj). All in all we were all delightfully full from brunch at Verde and plan to return!

I (25) came here on Friday night excited to take my sister (28) and cousin (26) out to dinner and drinks as they were visiting me at my new apartment for the first time. I went to college in Baltimore and have lived here ever since - and worked in the service industry for 7 years- and have never had such a horrible dining experience. We were seated and greeted normally, with our server asking if we wanted to start off with something to drink. We asked for another minute to look at the menu, and ordered 3 glasses of wine when she returned. She asked for our IDs and commented on how we were from “all over” (New York, PA, and MD). We laughed politely and she walked away. She came back a moment later asking to see them again. We said of course and she took the New York ID, bending it back and forth and calling over another server to double check. He said everything looked good to him and for a second time they walked away. The waitress came back a third time, looked at my sister (28, PA ID) and said she didn’t feel comfortable serving her and couldn’t risk her job/their license. I asked if they had a scanner, and she looked at me like I had 3 heads. I asked if they could look at her social media and see her life and career milestones, and she reiterated she needed a “legal form of ID”. We were laughing in astonishment as was the table next to us, while she called over a third server to now check our IDs. The server apologized saying they all looked ok, and we were brought our first (and ONLY) glass of wine, as we were denied the second glass upon request. The waitress was rude, rolling her eyes and talking loudly about us at a nearby table. For the first time in my life I requested to speak with the manager. I explained to him how I would not have stayed or ordered food at his establishment if I knew I wasn’t going to be able to continue drinking as we intended. I told him I didn’t feel comfortable paying for the entire meal. This man stared at me for 30 seconds straight without saying a word, as if to say “what do you want me to do about it?” He said he had the right to refuse us service, and when I said it was too late for that and to take back the decision to serve us was ridiculously bizarre. He then OFFERED ME ANOTHER GLASS (???) which again, contradictory and bizarre. We were forced to pay full price and again for the first time, I did not tip and am now leaving my first negative review.

The pizza was also very clearly premade and reheated in 90 seconds. It was undercooked, the bottom couldn’t hold up even just the sauce alone, and beyond overpriced. I have never been...

1/5 Service 5/5 Food 4/5 Drinks

From the moment we walked in the service was bad. The hosts didn't make eye contact, let alone say hi. We were abruptly asked if we had reservations, to which we said no and the one host turned around to the other host and started talking. I asked if we could sit inside and the host said, "That's where we are seating you". I was like, oh okay.

We were sat upstairs right in front of the trash can and where they stacked their dishes, despite there being at least 3 other tables that could seat the two of us. The waiter we had, I won't say their name, was hovering even though we just sat down and barely got a chance to look at the menu. He continued to put away dishes, slamming them down, behind me. It honestly gave me a headache. Twice while I was eating the waiter threw something over my head or around me into the trash. I found this incredibly rude and completely uncalled for. He also didn't tell us what the drink specials or any specials were for the day, but he did for the party of 4 who were sat directly in front of us, again despite there being a table available across the room. I only point this out because the tables were close together and their chairs were bumping my friends chair. I honestly don't know what we did to offend this waiter, but I can't help but feel he was being rude on purpose. The final blow was when he gave us the wrong receipt, one that was double! what we were supposed to be charged. Luckily, I noticed and said something, however instead of printing us out a new receipt he said "I can just take your card and ring it up" which for obviously reasons we were skeptical about.

We ordered the pesto appetizer which was really amazing (you can get it without the giant ball of mozzarella and it will still be good, save the extra sauces to add to your pizza later). We also got the margarita and the one mushroom pizza with truffle oil. Both were really great. I ordered a classic Gin & Tonic and it was good. My friend ordered one of the non-alcoholic cocktails and that was great! I was going to order the tiramisu, but due to the service I just wanted to leave. Luckily, there are a lot of great dessert places around Fells Point so you can't go wrong.

Unfortunately, due to the service both my friend and I agreed we won't ever be coming back. I would honestly sooner order from Dominos (and yes I know that's extreme), but it's better than having trash thrown over my head and at least I'd be around good company. I walked in excited and happy and quite frankly, I left feeling...

My family and I have gone to Verde many times. It has become our go to spot for birthdays. We have always had an excellent experience. And, on many occasions, the owner has come over and talked to us and made us feel very welcomed. Last night was very different. I made a reservation for us two weeks in advance. On Monday, many days before we were to dine there, I called and asked if we could have the private room upstairs for a party of six because it was a birthday. I was told that there were other parties who would be using that room that night. When we arrived, we were seated in the bar, which was very disappointing as that is normally the place you would put someone who didn’t have a reservation. We were near the door and every time the door opened we got a cold breeze. Then, we ordered a charcuterie tray, which had a fig jam on it. When I ordered the BurrataI asked the waiter if I could get a side of the fig jam with my Burrata. He said a firm no. When I questioned him as to why they couldn’t do that, he really had no answer. I told him I wouldn’t order the Burrata then. The next time he returned our table, he questioned me as to whether or not I wanted the fig jam or the apple butter with the Burrata. I told him either one would be fine. And he said they could do that. It turned into a big thing, which it should not have been. He then informed me they would have to charge me an additional 2 to 3 dollars for the condiment on the side. I said that was absolutely fine. Our food was good, but We did not feel like special customers, as we have in the past. When I went upstairs to go to the bathroom, I saw the private room was empty, and there were plenty of empty tables in the other large dining room up there. I think, given the fact that I had made it clear we were there for a birthday celebration, they could have put us at a table that wasn’t right near the...
