Stopped here for a late lunch on an outdoorsy yet gloomy Saturday afternoon. 3 stars because I am still a little confused. We opted for the Tavern over the dining room and were sat promptly by a friendly and welcoming staff member. Our young somewhat new (by his own admission) waiter was on top of it and we had beers and food orders taken at a pleasant pace. So far so good. While we wait we look around a bit at the decor and notice chalkboards above the bar advertising UPCOMING events. Events such as a New Year's Eve Party, Oktoberfest and a Water tasting event several months prior. Food (Beef on Wick and a Reuben) came out quickly, fresh and delicious. Fries were awesome too and our waiter checked in a couple of times.
The second beer I received was not actually the Stella (first one had been Stella) I ordered and asked our waiter for the right beer please; returning the 3/4 full mishap (Bud light?)Things happen. I waited tables, I get it.
When our waiter returns it is in the wake of a middle aged agitated senior staff person who not only glares at me, but legitimately puts her hand on her hip and demands that I try this replacement beer and tell her what it is. I apologize for having inadvertently offended anyone and assure her I have had a more than humanly appropriate amount of Stella Artois in my life and can in fact identify it and the switch wasn't a big deal, I just didn't like the one I got.
1 to 2 ish more minutes of awkward conversation happen this way and the lovely young waiter, my lunch companion, a lady at the bar ( 7ish feet away) plus myself all just want to die. We paid and left without further incident shortly after. Just weird. And despite the otherwise nice service and good food I probably won't be back.
P.s. the soap in the bathroom is...
Read moreI will never be returning to this spot. My husband and I decided to go here for lunch after going to the Roman Bathhouse. We were told it would be a 20 min wait at 1:30pm (which was fine, we walked around). We returned to be seated. Our waitress is the reason I am writing a review. We saw her a total of 3 times. Once when she took our order, when she brought out our food, and got my husband a refill on his drink. We waited 30 minutes for our food without any communication from our waitress, she never checked in on us that whole time. The waitress didn't remember my husband's drink and automatically assumed it was water without confirming. She didn't ask if our food was good or anything. The food was average, nothing special. I got the Apricot Chicken with Balsamic. My husband got the Stacked burger, which was shredded beef but was not advertised on the menu as such. After we finished our food, we waited an additional 10min to see if she would ask us if we were ready for the check, but she never came back. I ended up asking another staff member if we could get our check. They gave us the wrong check, partially my fault because we should have checked before paying. They charged us for two kids meals when we clearly didn't have kids with us. I went back to the hostess stand, again because we haven't seen our waitress this whole time. I told her what had happened, added up what would have been our total and we corrected it. I spoke with the manager to let her know what happened. She said the kitchen was backed up. The manager did apologize and was respectful during the interaction. We totally get these things happen, our issue is that our waitress did not communicate...
Read moreA couple months ago was first time we had dinner here, having lived in Berkeley Springs for 15+ years; been back twice since! This restaurant is just one part of The Country Inn: also included are inn-like rooms/suites/cottages on site, a beautiful garden surrounding the Inn, as well as a fully operating spa, all in a historic like setting. Their service: excellent! (ie. The attendants helped hold open doors for us, so we could get our wheelchair in and out of the restaurant.) The atmosphere: also excellent (the dining area has been redone; has a decent sized banquet room, as well as a separate bar area and a separate room for patrons looking for breakfast, lunch or dinner in a relaxed setting) The food (that's what really has us returning): We recommend for appetizers their fried green tomatoes and their pot stickers, and, when available, their fried pierogi ( OUR ONLY WISH IS THAT THE FRIED PIEROGI WERE OFFERED YEAR ROUND). Their artisan salad is as good as it looks (offering with it is some very tasty balsamic vinegrette that had to be hand made); today, husband would have had the French Onion Soup, only it was Summer ( some of the best I've had); the crabcake was also tasty, with crunchier outer side than I've had before; (also had breakfast here one time; husband had an omelet and potatoes that he enjoyed/ I had pecan crusted french toast (there was a lot- had to take some home! Would recommend); Next time, we're going to leave...
