Although we didn't have the best experience, I'd like to think that this place has a lot of potential. We were very excited to hear that a new Italian restaurant was opening up in Berkeley springs. The atmosphere is very nice. We sat outside in a very pleasant outdoor seating area. The hostess asked if we wanted sparkling or still water as we were seated. We said that still water was fine but the information clearly wasn't passed on to our waitress who then later stopped by and asked what type of water we wanted. The water was brought out fairly quickly, but then no one took a drink order from us for 20 minutes. There were only a few tables in the restaurant so this was a little confusing. After that wait, we decided that we'd better put in our whole order when we did finally see the waitress. We ordered drinks, appetizers and entrees and were told that we would get complimentary bread. Again, we waited for quite a while before we got our drinks and no bread came with them. A male employee, who I'm assuming may have been the manager, stopped by and asked how everything was. We told him that we were just waiting on some bread and he did go and have the bread sent out. The bread was good but the oils that were sent out with it were fairly bland. A nice fruity plain olive oil would have been a perfect compliment for that bread. It then took about another 15 minutes for our salads to show up. The Greek salad was very good. All of the vegetables were really fresh and the dressing was flavorful. The watercress salad was just kind of weird. It consisted of watercress, a few sliced peaches and 2 or 3 walnuts pieces dressed only with balsamic vinegar. I'm a huge salad person so I ate it but still I'm a little baffled by it. A nice dressing would have really perked it up.It's definitely not something that I would order again and I wonder if whoever developed that dish actually tasted it. We are pescetarians and there were not a lot of options so we went for the garlic parmesan pasta and the gnocchi with pesto. We were disappointed that they were out of broccoli rabe. Again, there was a fairly long wait for the entrees as our empty dishes sat on the table. The pasta had a very good garlic flavor but little to no parmesan and could have used a little bit of salt. The gnocchi had micro greens sprinkled on top which added a bitterness to the dish that was not appealing. The pesto was thinned out and not super flavorful. The gnocchi itself was good. By this time, we had already spent 2 hours in the restaurant so decided to forgo dessert. In summary, for us, it would be great if the menu was expanded a bit and service tightened up. Just one busboy/busgirl clearing dishes, refilling water, and bringing bread would make a huge difference. We'd love to come back at some point and give it...
Read moreThe outside presentation of this place is awesome. The name is great, the vibe is good and the reviews were good. Their menu, although small, reads amazing. Our experience however was absolutely terrible. We were there on June 1st. I will cut to the specifics. We were 1 of 2 tables seated at the time our food was served. I ordered crudo, and their chicken pasta with butter and capers while my wife ordered garlic pasta and a side of their seasonal vegetables. Both of our pastas had minimal flavor and were mushy, like they were pre-boiled and then microwaved. The garlic in my wife's dish was hard and raw, her vegetables were hard and raw with no seasoning. The chicken that came with my pasta was nice, but that's all there is to say about the chicken. The crudo (raw fish) I ordered was too thick and firm and had a sour taste to it. I had two nice glasses of wine.
For just over $100 I am extremely dissatisfied with not only the quality of the food but also the entire experience. I highly recommend not wasting time or money on this establishment. Once again, it looks cool, but I promise you that you will be disappointed.
That is all.
Edited to add: thanks to the restaurant for responding. You must be mixing us up with another table because the only two staff we spoke to were the hostess/first server and the server for our table. The chef never came to our table.
To clarify our comment about our children, while the server was happy to get a high chair for our daughter (who was too big for it but too small for the chairs - would’ve been nice to have a booster but that’s minor), we were asked whether the kids needed paper napkins or could use the cloth ones given, we said cloth (which is what we use at home). The server then came and replaced the cloth napkins with the paper ones. This seemed like a lack of communication between the servers but still felt odd to us.
Lastly, part of our concern was the price relative to the quality of food. We paid over $100 for four people, but one of the adults and both children shared a single entree (the garlic pasta - no meat, very simple) and side. It felt like a costly meal for...
Read moreReally was looking forward to going. Alas, did not live up to other reviews. We were told several times they had a new chef and the menu was changing. We started with glasses of Chianti and the Greek Meatballs. Both very good. The chili oil drizzle around the tzatziki sauce for meatballs was delightful. We ordered Rigatoni and Chicken Picotta. Rigatoni arrived with pasta still dry and hard in the middle. Sent it back and it was replaced in about 10 minutes, but with Penne pasta. The menu notes it has peas, but we couldn’t find any. Chicken Picotta had a delicious lemony sauce and the chicken was cooked perfectly. Unfortunately, it came with spaghetti not the angel hair pasta on the menu. The pasta was very gooey and inedible. The whole garlic cloves on top were almost raw. Finished with an espresso and a latte, both very good. Overall, disappointed in the meal. I think we’ll give them a couple months to sort things out and try again. Dinner before tip: About $97 for two They were kind and comp’d...
